Yesterday morning, went to my farm to do some fall turkey hunting. Early AM, saw several coyotes, called in two of them, and smoked 'em with my CZ 527, .22 Hornet, and 45 gr. softpoints.
Then, on the way back to the truck at mid-morning, I saw a flock of turkeys making their way out of the trees, and through one of my fields. I quickly set up on the tripod, waited for an open shot at a tom in the flock, and once again the Hornet did its job.

This 90-year old cartridge still impresses me![Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

Nice! I’ve always wanted a Hornet. 223 is just sooo easy though.

Maybe a little low wall in Hornet!

Bighorn: Good for you on the great day afield and for owning that cool (and efficient!) Rifle!
And great pictures by the way.
I have to tell a story on myself - this just happened yesterday morning as well.
I was out on the prairie before sunrise yesterday Hunting a nifty Buck Antelope I had put to bed (noted its location the night before for the next mornings Hunt). As I trundled in the dark toward the spot I wanted to be at sunrise I heard a Coyote howling/yipping. I'll remember that, I thought to myself, and will return to call him in later after Antelopin is done!
I eventually got the Antelope in question - still before sunrise and after cleaning it and marking the location I cleaned my hands emptied my Ruger 77 V/T in 25/06 Remington and put the ammo in my day pack. I started the mile long trek back to the VarmintMobile and hadn't gone 1/3 mile when a pretty well furred Coyote jumped up out of a wash and dashed out to about 200 yards - stopped and turned broadside.
I tried to get my daypack off quickly and get to my ammo but the Coyote soon came to its senses and scooted over a ridge.
I could have bagged a nifty Coyote (easily - and these are hard to come by in SW Montana these days!) and did my rancher friend/host a big favor by capping that Coyote!
But my ignoring the fact a Coyote was in the area and I should have stayed prepared made me feel "stupid".
I am glad you were well prepared.
Congrats again and thanks for sharing those great pics.
Hold into the wind

Way to go bighorn!
I’ve shot several coyotes with my 22H, using Sierra 40 hp. They dropped in their tracks. The 22H is not my go to coyote cartridge, but inside about 150 or so yards, it’s effective.
