I have a M7 stainless in 7-08 with 20" bbl and synthetic stock. Has anyone weighed the factory synthetic versus the laminate, the HS Precision and the B&C Medalist. Going with a Manners, McMillan or Wildcat Composites isnt in the budget otherwise I might as well sell it and get a Montana.

The synthetic stock on my M7 weighed 2# 4oz.

I saw where a guy had a factory synthetic stock in Kuiu camo that claimed it weighed 1# 10oz. I’d look for one of these.

My B&C Medalist for a 700 LA weighed 2# 0oz.

Excellent info, thank you. I'm still thinking the Kimber MT may be the best route if I can find one used at a decent price.

I just weighed my factory synthetic and it was 38 oz. B&C claims around 2.25 lbs or 36 oz for their M7 stock with the bedding block. It doesn't appear I would be gaining anything other than a more stable stock.

If I'm wanting to drop weight the Montana looks to be the best route to take.

So how heavy is the rifle anyway? I haven't weighed the Wood or laminated stocks but can truthfully say the Predator M7 stock I replaced my wood stock with makes a much lighter and better balanced rifle.

I don't get why M7 stocks are such pigs. Mine weighed 38 OZ. also. I modified a take off M700 syn. stock for mine. Pillared , bedded and painted it weighs 27.5 oz.

Its just over 7 lbs with 2.5-8 Leupold vx3i and weaver aluminum bases and rings. Its not so much the total weight as it is how butt heavy the rifle is. I'm not looking to make it a sheep rifle, only drop a little weight in the right place to help it be more balanced.

If you could live with 4-6 oz more weight you could add some weight to front of forearm. I have wittled out narrow pockets in forearms and epoxied in strips of the lead weights used for duck decoys . The kind of lead weight that when you store the decoy you wrap it around the decoy neck. I think they weigh 8 oz. but you can cut it to the desired weight and epoxy it in.

I had a model 7 for many years and went with the B&C. Very happy . I bedded the lug area and tang and never looked back . Rifle shot great. Good luck with what you choose!

Thanks, only one they offer now has the full length bedding block though. Still a few oz lighter than the factory synthetic

Well I just had to pull my M7 out and see just how muzzle light it is. This is one of the earlier versions with an 18 inch skinny barrel. Topped with a 3 power Weaver, a scope that past the eyepiece is straight other than the adjustment knobs, pretty light scope. I used a M7 Predator stock to replace the old and very butt heavy wood stock. The rifle is pretty light and the balance point is 3/4 of an inch behind the front action screw. I have zero problem getting it on target or holding it steady for offhand shooting. With the wood stock it was ridiculous how the barrel wanted to reach for the sky. Could it be the Predator series stocks are lighter than the current crop of synthetics? The Predator is issued with a "magnum" contoured barrel 22 inches long, could it be that Remington lightened the stock to make up for the added weight of the heavier barrel?
