I’d like to find another early L-61 Sako, get it scoped and sighted in before season starts. I want another 7 mag or a 300 Win mag. I’d take a Kleinguenther too.
Always. There will be several. laugh
Nope. Did that last season. I figure it has to be carried at least 2 seasons before it's eligible for retirement tired

Just gonna switch out bullets this season to keep things interesting....
I’m looking for another rifle. I want a bolt action with a wood stock, and preferably a compact or lightweight model in 7-08, 260 or 257roberts. Something like a model 7 CDL, Win m70 FWT compact, Ruger Hawkeye compact... My lightweight 308 Model 7 will still be my go-to gun, but it’s definitely not as good looking as something with wood furniture.

Wouldn’t mind getting another lightweight synthetic rig either though in 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5PRC, 6.5x284, 7-08 or 7SAUM something like a Kimber Montana or Savage 116 Lightweight Hunter, though if I can save up a little my eye is really on a NULA or Seekins Havak Element. My 308 is a fantastic gun but with its short barrel and 2-7x scope it’s setup as the perfect gun for Appalachia, not for longer range shooting.
Nope.
Hunting season doesn’t end until Feb 10th for me. But I should have a McGowen prefit 6mm creedmoor for a T3 arriving around that time.
Yep, I'll have it today, even though our group decided last night to not renew our lease. So for now I don't even have a place to hunt with my new rifle.
I didn't until a week or so ago and bought a 308 Mauser M12. Nice rifle.
Yep, I bought a Tikka T3X 6.5 CM at SW right before Christmas. I need to work up a load for it, and get it going this summer. 50/50 chance my bow caribou hunt with a buddy coming in from FL is cancelled so probably going to rifle hunt in a different area now using this rifle. I honestly think I’m done buying rifles for a while now, unless a 6mm Creedmoor I really like pops up somewhere.
not me. i'm giving them to kids/grandkids. a single 308win will follow me out.
Might swap out the 17" '06 barrel for a standard length 270 take-off barrel, but that's it.

Doubt I'll ever buy another gun.

Have more than I can shoot and keep up with now.
Sending this barreled action out to Dennis Olson for a custom stock:

https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...something-new-mexican-sr-98#Post14579716

And am hoping to have it for coyotes & deer this fall.

I’ve got a Gustaf 96 with a 7x57 tube that I’ll be sending out for safety, trigger, and stock refinement once that “Mexibob” is done.

Have been thinking that I’m past due for a nice 9,3x62...
Well I just bought a tikka t3x stainless 308, so yes. In the shop right now having the barrel shortened.
When I get it back I'll see if I like the sportsmatch or talley rings better.
Then I'll see if the Swarovski z3 or vortex HD 1.5-8 fit the rifle better.
Or maybe the leupy, 2-7 I have sitting around.

Hoping to get the 130 ttsx bullets to shoot well.
Probably not. I don't want to burn up my powder and primers, trying to figure out new loads. I'm all set on rifles, I think!
Hoping to score a nice Cooper or such. Don’t need anything but would like to have 1 high end rifle to pack the rest of my years. I always envy the guts who inherited dad or grandpas rifle with a life time of stories. Hope to have one to pass down that way.

In answer to the title of the thread, "probably". However, it will have to be one that a) I have ammo or components for; or, b) one of those that seems to now always have ammo on the shelves.
Yes, in fact the parts just arrived at the smiths a couple days ago so should have it back way before I get to actually hunt with it.
Let’s me see. I bought a Rutgers no1 in 405 winchester and a Weatherby mark v in 270 weatherby mag. But that was before you asked this question so problably yes. Looking at a custom Remington in 6-284. Hmmm Maybe. Edk
No, but I'll end up with a couple for sure.
Nahhhh.... I'm not planning on it. I'v'e got a rifle for most every game species in North America. Probably got the varmints covered too. Don't need another rifle, that's for sure. But I have been kinda wanting another 223. A guy might find a good deal on one with the ammo shortages and 223 ammo being in the forefront of that shortage. And I've got a ton of 25-06 brass... lotsa 4831 and RL19... shame to waste it. It'd be nice to have a rifle to get the good out of it. And somebody on the Campfire said that if I got a 6.5 Creedmoor my old bald head would grow enough hair to make a man bun... might be worth a try. But, no... I'm not planning on another new rifle...
Probably - have a couple of new muzzleloaders I just ordered and will probably hunt with one next fall. Another one - not an entirely new rifle, but a new barrel and cartridge on an existing rifle are at the gunsmith now...
Just one??? No
I have a Defiance anTi ordered, with a Bart carbon wrap sitting here waiting. Also have a zermatt origin sitting at my ffl waiting to get picked up and a lilja on order.
So yes! New rifles for the upcoming season.
Nope. I got tired of spending too much time and energy messing with gear. Decided to spend more time in the woods scouting, exercising, and generally doing things outdoors I like to do instead of tinkering with equipment. Best decision I've ever made.
I'm sure I'll end up with one or two by then. I actually just impulse bought a Marlin 1893 30-30. Saw it on Armslist and had to have it. Didn't even think it over. But I don't really need it and it may end up as trade bait for something I really need
Yes.

I'm having a Contender action job being done right now, and I ordered a 20" threaded 30-30 barrel for it.

I'm going to set it up with a youth stock and a Weaver Grand Slam 4.75x for my son to use with a Gemtech Tracker on it.

No! And no for the past 30 hunting seasons! memtb
I have a 721 BDL in 300H&H in the works for this fall. Hardly new, but new to me. smile

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]
Probably not.. I have a couple rifles I have never shot.. Some I haven't shot for years.. I pretty well have things covered from gophers to elephants..
No, I'm all set. Maybe a SxS for the uplands.
I'm building a new one, but don't need it for hunting bg. Only to shoot prairie dogs with.....
No. I picked up an 270 win and 30-06 on left hand versions and am set. I dont have a need to change hunting rifles like folks change underwear. Now if Kimber started making left hand rifles then yeah, Id be on one like flies on stink.

Im really wanting to see what that 30-06 does with 200gr Partition as a one and done for everything type load. The older i get i hate to mess and change things and if i can get a nice heavy to work im happy. When i need to go lighter im trying a 270.
No, but I've got a 700 .223 waiting on a barrel right now and I usually run across something at one of the pawn shops every once in a while. Pickin's have Ben kinda slim lately.
Ha! I just might try a Kimber Adirondack in .308 Win if I can find one but no big deal if I dont...Im still waiting to see what new rifles might show up too...Hb
I plan on a new rifle by the end of the month. Maybe even 2..
Just picked up a bergera hmr 7mm mag
Hopefully get some loads worked up this weekend.

I bought two this fall. Can't find bullets for one of them. If I buy another it will be chambered in something I'm already prepared to load for.
I think I'm good on new rifles.
I found an unfired 1994 Winchester featherweight classic in 7mm-08 for $700 back just before Christmas so yes & no. I never PLAN to buy but nice guns I can't resist FIND ME somehow. Will put one of the extra Leupold I have sitting on the shelf on and work it into the rotation.
Dream about it...

Nice!
I buy guns that I want and sometimes I buy guns that I'm not particularly interested in if they are a particularly good deal. Since the 2020 elections there haven't been many good enough deals, but I did buy 3 basic 10/22s on 12/28/2020 because the local WM was selling the last three that they had for $164 each, too good a deal to pass on.
I should have my 375 H&H completed this spring in time for load development and ready to roll by fall. FN Mauser action , English walnut, express sights.

If I found a really good deal on a very light rifle in 6 or 6.5 Creed I would be tempted. My go to Tikka T3 lite 308 weighs 8 lbs scoped and loaded and I don't see looking for a lighter scope. Not many really good deals in rifle world right now so I am pretty safegrin

Wasn't planning on it........ but I've picked up a 700ADL Stainless Laminate in 6.5 and a Charles Daly Zastava rebarreled to .358 so far this year.... thinking the .358 will be my "go to" next year. Only rifle on my radar now is mauser in 9.3x62. Unless I find a good deal on a .340 WBY. Don't need it, but I want it......
Probably just a muzzleloader for me this year. May buy my son a rifle though.
Yes, Tikka is rolling out a 6.5 PRC this summer and I plan on getting one by Sept.
No. Gearing up to learn bullet casting for the current inventory...
No, not even tempted, got too many that dont see daylight already.
I keep telling myself now is not a good time to be buying a gun. And I'm definitely not buying a caliber that I don't already have.
I sent 2 to Pac Nor last month. One is a Howa that's becoming a 6.5-06 and a Ruger 77 II becoming a 280. Both are getting a Douglas #2 contour so they fit in the McMillan's they came out of.
Just sent a Howa off to Pac-Nor that will come back as a 264 Win Mag with a Timney trigger and not decided on a stock yet, heck way things are I may have to put it back in its Hogue stock. Luckily I have brass, dies, primers, powder and bullets.

Ordered three more for the boys come Christmas.
No plan on working up loads for a couple I already have
I refuse to answer the question on the grounds that it tends to incriminate me ! wink

In 2017 I said that I wasn't looking for any more rifles and that I was content! smile

Feb 2018 I bought a T3X SS Lite 7 RM so........ smirk

Jerry
Nope.

But I do have a Savage action and stock as a donor...
One does not need a special occasion to justify buying a new firearm.
Got two:

Traded into this nice Cooper 52 Custom Classic in 280AI. AAA+ wood and fluted barrel.

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

And bought a black/tan Cooper 54 in 6.5CM

[Linked Image]
Got a pile(all) the parts for my prc build, just gotta run it to the smith after work. Don’t get too wound up about guns anymore, just a tool for my favorite hobby. Huntin..
Nope. I’m good. I am a hunter that likes guns, and I have all the tools I need for anything I could possibly hunt.
GreggH
Nope, because I just replaced my Fieldcraft with a left handed Tikka 6.5 and a LH stainless Ruger 77 in 338-06.

That should do. Of course I'm looking for a 223 regardless.

That's just a beauty! The Cooper 52!
I’m just hoping for a new box of ammo.
No, I bought a Remington Gamemaster 760 in 30-06 from an older Gentleman friend in 1991, the Gentleman gave me a pound of imr-4831, a box of 165gr Speer hot cors, and a sleeve of Remington 9-1/2 primers in the green paper box, I have a spare bag of new WW '06 brass, the load recipe has been in the box of bullets along with the primers for near 30 years, I brought the rifle and cardboard box with the components to this farm when I bought it in 1998, have never fired the rifle, the old Man has died, I will work up his prescribed load and zero the old rifle 2 inches high at 100 yards using it's same 2-7 Redfield scope that's rode in the Weaver bases and rings all this time.

I have some tight spots to hunt with broken cover that will allow 15 to around 200 yard shots, it's going to be a humble respectful season using my old Friends rifle, not going to chronograph the load, dont care, don't think it'll matter, I do believe the 165gr Speers leaving the 22 inch barrel over 61gr IMR-4831 will knock holy hellfire out of whitetail deer.
I hadn't planned on anything. But started thinking about another 257 Roberts. I remember reading some years back, Savage stated they would make/build whatever you wanted as long as it was a caliber they had offered in the past. So I called the nice lady at Savage. Asked if they would build an AXIS II; as all AXIS II's are standard actions; in a 257 Roberts, 24" barrel 1-10 twist, with a 3" chamber/freebore to the lands with a 100gn Nosler Partition. She said, we can do that, but you have to order through an authorized Savage dealer. the dealer orders it, we build and ship to dealer. You pay them....So I ordered through the dealer, will see what happens.....

Let us know. If it works I may want an Axis II in 250 Sav...
I’ll be buying a Howa mini carbon stalker in 6.5 Grendel. It’s not stainless as I had hoped but I’ll manage.
Nope, cuz when you own a good 06, no need to. Except maybe another 06.

Already did! Bought back a previously owned Kimber Montana in 7mm-08.
I need to get a new stock for my Ruger Hawkeye SS. The plastic stock isn’t that good and needs to be replaced.
Haenel Jaeger Basic 10(blind-mag version) in 308Win.
Hopefully my Nula will be ready by then. That’s the worse part of having one built is the wait...and maybe the invoice.
Sent a 99 off to return a 338 Federal. Won’t be new but will be different.

This is awesome - hope you run into a good one with rifle in hand.
I buy new rifles all the time, not because it is hunting season, I just want to test the rifle and the cartridge it's chambered for. Just one of the perks from being a gun shop owner. My biggest problem is trying to figure out which rifle/cartridge to take Elk and deer hunting. Plus which one to take as back up. And of course I also build rifles myself if I'm going for a wildcat cartridge.
I just bought a Marlin 1895 Guide gun so the answer is yes
Yes-If I find a Rem 700 ADL SS Mountain Rifle from 1993. I bought one from David Walter many years ago and it was converted to BDL. My favorite deer rifle now. And I would like to have another.(In case the bolt handle falls off) I have 3 each 280's from 1993. Two are converted and 1 is still original.

Thanks Skane, there's more, the old Man's son is still alive, i'll give him the powder and primers along with the 13 bullets I have left his Pappy gave me 30+ years ago, will advise him to load those in his Dads other '06 he still has, with that, i'll ask if we can hunt whitetails on his Dads parents place they homesteaded back in the early 1900's, I have a key to the gate, but want to hunt it with him, this has the makings of a very cool, but reverent and memorable hunt. smile

LOL, I cant wait, need to dig that old 760 out of the back of the big safe and give her some fresh air and a good Lucas Extreme oil wipe down. cool
Hell yeah! I love them pump guns! Remington bolts aren’t my thing but their 760/7600’s are a deer hunters rifle.
Yes Sir, have heard up your way they call em amish machine guns! laugh I've never fired the rifle, the corn cob? pump handle looks kinda cool, iirc the old Gent told me it was made in the early 50's, he bought it brand new when he got home from Korea, that can of IMR-4831 powder he gave me has a price tag of $6.95 ; ]

Rebarrel or rebore?
For some reason I have a desire to get a Remington 141 in .35 Rem
Nope, I never plan on a new one. They just seem to sneak up on me!
Dammit! There's a CZ 550 FS in 9.3x62 in the used rack whispering sweet nothings in my ear every time I venture in the store.

I'm such a pushover....
Not only do I not plan a new rifle before next hunting season, I have a Savage 111 action and stock waiting for a new barrel. Bought it a year ago and now an wondering why - I need another rifle like I need cancer.

Right now I'm spending my time building ammo for firearms I already have (something I commonly do this time of year) and, when I find reasonable prices, buying more components. Not that I need them now, either, but I don't see the shortages ending within the next year, maybe two.

I have a journal to keep up with all I have as far as round count, etc.
I have never not planned on getting a new rifle before or after or during the next hunting season!!!
I did not plan on it , but nothing ever goes as planned.
I’ve got a new Christensen Mesa in 300 WM that I may try to hunt with if I can hunt out of state. If not, I’ll probably hunt with a new M70 in 30-06.
No plans for anything new unless a deal pops up that I might have components for. But one never knows. Do one?
Yes, I am was looking for a Sako 85 Hunter Stainless. Just found out they don't make them anymore.
So it lookes like it will be a Sako 85 Finnlight in 7mm-08.

Yep , already shooting it. picked up a 40 year old Parker Hale p58 2 bander rifled musket in minty cond. It shoots 500+ gr. minnie balls really well out to a hundred, probably further. i plan killing some chit with it.
I recently picked up a Barrett Fieldcraft 6.5 Creed limited edition with the #2 24” barrel. It’s going in a Kimber Montana stock, and will get a set of custom steel rings so I can mount an SWFA 3-9 mil dot nice and low.

I will run it for a bit, and other than perhaps nipping an inch or two off the barrel won’t change anything else.

It should be a keeper.

I’m interested to see how the Fieldcraft in the Montana stock works and how much modification it takes to fit it. Let us know when you’re done with the projects and post some pics please.
My stock guy is doing it, he says is is straight forward. Will share some pics when it is done.

Frank, is it a 7-08?
I’m thought to selling some, got too many, I’m getting old, save the wife some grief.
Does a new caliber new barrel for an existing rifle count? If not then no.

If yes then mine will be a 2nd barrel for a CZ 527. Still a little on the fence whether to pull a 7.62 x 39 barrel or the 6.5 Grendel. To the point the re-barrel will be chambered in 6mm ARC. Expecting my 11 year old son will like this a lot so many I should get 2 barrels so ill have one to shoot as well.
I wasn't planning on it but somehow a used Kimber 84L in 30-06 followed me home today.

Dale
I did not really plan on it. But, have stumbled over a few that followed me home since the first of the year. Most are the “new to me” types.

Same here. So far in 2021 a Savage 340 222, a Marlin 1895G 45-70, and a Savage 114 American Classic 300 Win have followed me home
Kimber hunter 30-06, not sure it’s possible for me to hunt spring bear without it. I hear spring bear can only be killed by new guns, so just want to up my odds.
I think that I pretty much have all the bases covered from mice to elephants, so nothing new planned.

BUT, I will be cleaning off about 13 years of dust from my .375 RUM so I can use it this fall on an Alaskan brown bear and moose hunt.

Pretty much worked out.24", 1/10, Except Savage built it as a short action. No big deal. I can change it over to a long action with about $45 in parts. Different mag spacer and a long action magazine. Savage gave me the part numbers. And of course I would need to lengthen the free bore.

I plan on about 3 more "new" hunting rifles before hunting season.. At least..
Not PLANNING on purchasing another rifle...I have a new-to-me 270 bought last year that needs its time on the Deer Camp roster.

That said...if a 300 Blackout or 458 SOCOM walks by and is available for the right price...their is ALWAYS room in the safe for "just one more".....
I "NEVER" plan but I am sure it will happen
No. My consideration is which rifles already owned am I going to take.

I still want to kill with the '94 - last time (for me) was 1966.

The .338WM RU77 hasn't been fired in 12 -15 years.

The M98 .30-06 is heavy, but Uber-accurate, but last went 2 years ago.

The 70 fwt 7X57 needs more blooding - 2 caribou last year.

The 243 700 needs a scope- probably won't get to it.

Pretty sure the 725 in .260 is going tho. Also killed with it last year.

My wife will be taking "Stub", a RU77 in '06, cut down to carbine size with 17 inch bbl.

Decisions...decisions...
I got a new rifle.... just can't get ammo, or brass for it... nor bullets...

So I'll probably be taking the Grendal Again...

I don't hunt elk here in Oregon... have had too many incidences of some Nut job, who thinks me and everyone else out there is an elk.

The horror!
I'm not sure what my hunting looks like this year, but I'm working up a 20" m70 claasic in 375 wsm with NECG express sights. I don't expect it to be done until after the season.

I'll probably do otc bear and/or elk with some gun I've already got set up.
Picked up what I think of as a bucklist rifle for me this January here in the forums. Have wanted a 280AI for several years so now hoping to get my brass fireformed and loaded before the fall.

Nope, no more purchases. Actually, I plan to sell a couple of 30-06 rifles.
Yep already in hand and working up loads..

I haven't been able to find any Barnes 225 TSX yet but I did get Accubond 225 in my hands and I have heard good thing about them

CVA Scout V2 in 35 Whelen which I have had an itch about since this thread started

Got the barrel broken in last week, Fire-Froming tomorrow and hunting load development soon after, I am really hoping to find the Barnes which I am an admitted "Fan Boy" before Elk opens this Fall.
I actually found Whelen Brass, I am saving that for the hunting Loads, been using resized 30-06 and 270 so far

I doubt it,, I probably have 15 big game rifles, more if you count the stunt shooting .224's.. One of the 06's his been here for near 30 years and has never had a round in the chamber... Lots to pick from, just less licenses to fill.. No fast twist rifles, but can you believe they still kill game..
Yes

This is as "basic b*tch" as it gets but I'd like to be using a Rem. 700 SPS in 308 Win that I can upgrade as I go along. A triggertech trigger next season, a McSwirly of some type for the next, etc.

Planning on shooting 130gr TTSX pushed by IMR 3031 out of Peterson cases.

Should I not have that rifle, I'll be making do with either a Criterion barreled M1 Garand or an Israeli Mauser, both also in 308/7.62x51 and the same load.
I am, Marlin 336 in 30-30. Last time I used a 30-30, a model 94, was 1972.
A bit of nostalgia I guess.

If the damn Savage custom shop ever delivers the one ordered on Feb. 15th. They say it is in the final stage- out for Cerakote, then will ship.
Weather hasn't been favorable for range work anyhow, so no huge push.
Not at current prices and availability. I did, however, just recently put a new .260 Rem with an 8 twist McGowen tube on a Ruger 77 RL tanger that started life as a .243 Win. Only about 80 rounds through it so far, but showing promise.

Nope ..... Nothing new here. Downsizing is in effect and keeping the users.

Hunting will be confined to a 6CM 700 sporter, 257 Roberts (faux TI), 275 Rigby (faux Rigby Stalker), 280 Remington M700 (synthetic lego gun) and a 721 300H&H.
Getting to the point of having what I need. Only buying if something really catches my eye as extra special.
Plenty to choose from, but decided to go with 'ol reliable this season - the '06 and 180 gr. Partition handloads zeroed at 200 yards.

It's been knocking down dinner for me for 20+ years...

Ha. You obviously have not been reading the internet, sport a man bun or wear a flat brimmed ball cap.It is truly amazing that you have been able to harvest anything with your antiquated arsenal.
I won’t buy anymore, I won’t buy anymore, I won’t buy anymore, I won’t buy anymore, I won’t buy anymore.

Bravo Sierra!
I hear you, lol

I've been buying a lot as "investments", because a money market account makes nothing. But they all will go hunting. That's the fun part of being free.
Nope. Old standbys or lonely safe dwellers.
Not for me… picked up a few already this year. Need to do a cull sooner than later.
No I have all I want but one, and that one I may not ever find at a time when I also have the money. A Ruger 44 Carbine, M96 lever action.

I would also consider their Deerfield 44 with the rotary mag, but the one that is just cool to me is the M96. Sadly I'd probably have to work it into a trade sometime because money is tight. I have no sense of urgency I have many other guns that cover the bases with redundancy now. I have NO NEED for a Ruger 44 carbine at all. I just like them.

So for the foreseeable future I am not likely to get any new rifles (or new to me)

I am old enough and interested enough in bullet performance that it's unlikely I can even kill enough game in my remaining years to satisfy my curiosity now, and I know what a 44 magnum can do, having owned a lever action 44 in the past and also having killed a lot of game with 44 mag handguns up to the size of American Bison. So I feel no need to "test' any new bullets in a 44, and I still want to try some different 30 and 35 caliber rifles in my future.

Some many hunts -------------- So little time

(or money)
Yes.I have a Left handed Ruger 375 in grey laminate/stainless steel arriving here in a week or so.
