Has anybody had any experience with these semi-auto’s? I think it came out in 2012 or so. Not interested in the black version; wood only.
I’ve seen them used a time or two in the continental, driven boar hunts but Google doesn’t seem to turn up many for sale this side of the pond.
As always I appreciate tour comments.
My hunting partner has a LH 303 and it has worked extremely well on hogs and whitetails. I can put you in touch with him if you like.
They're decent, probably on the same level with the BAR. The new stock design looks a little wonky, though, if you ask me.
Boomer, you don’t think there’s another layer of refinement above the BAR Mk lll? There’s certainly a price point difference. And if you mean the severely closed grip with the thumb hole stocks, I wholeheartedly agree — completely “unclassic.”

On the first generation the wood was a real highlight as Sauer generally used good grades of wood and either a hogs back or monte carlo stock design. They had a reputation for being a little picky on ammo and thus got reworked in 2019. Sauer claims it's more reliable now, but it also got around 3/4 of a pound heavier and, if you ask me, a butt ugly stock. The ergo-something stock design with the raising comb makes it look fairly bulky and they stopped using high grade wood in favor of laser engraved "grain". The old 303 was a fairly good hunting rifle, but I'd take a BAR over the new one any day.

Probably more BAR's used in Monteria then a Sauer 303 by a large margin. I own a Mark 3 and love it and it is a featherweight compared to the previous BAR's I have owned.
Boomer and Oldelkhunter, thanks. That is exactly the info I was seeking. I liked the looks of the original model 303, but the changes you suggest take it out of the running. Sounds like Sauer “Americanized” it.

I am also going to say my Mark 3 weighs 7lbs 1 ounce in 30-06 and points and handles like a really nice shotgun. It puts my bolt guns and I have all kinds to shame.
