Picked up a new 700 in 7-08 sitting on the self at my lgs. Looking to put a different hunting stock on it. Gonna cut the barrel to 20 in. Probably gonna mount a 2-7 or 2.5-8 leupold on it and use it for some whitetail. What would you all put on it. Wouldn't mind even finding a used stock. I don't mind to paint it.

Guess I should have specified, looking at fiberglass stocks.

Half the price of an edge and reportedly within a few ounces. Probably a decent way to roll.

Those Grayboes look like a promising option. I have always just ordered a B&C 700Ti clone off of Stocky's for slightly less $.

Did you bed it? They claim their stocks are true drop-ins...

Looks like the stock is 28oz bedded with 1" Decelerator. Rifle is a 700 SA BDL with 24" JC Custom sporter weight bbl. Weight with VXIII 4.5-14 is 8lb 2oz. Good weight for a full sized rifle.

The only thing I did not like about the stock was the square bolt handle slot as it's a bit ugly and larger than it needs to be. I suppose they make it like that for a custom bolt handle. I don't pay much attention to it so no big deal.



I had the gunmaker stamp it 1:7" which was a brain fart cuz in actuality it's 1:8". My wronger.

I did bed it. I don't trust that drop-in / one size fits all claim.

I'm leaning toward the grayboe for sure. If my full custom was ready to be handled I would grab an eh2 from redvanes.

How stiff is the forend of those B&C stocks? Are these the same ones Stocky’s used to sell?

I bought mine from Stockys and they are about as stiff as a baseball bat.

Wonder why stockys don't sell B&C stocks anymore.
