...and I feel a bit ridiculous about it.

Got it for a stupid good deal (40% of retail) through a well connected friend in the hunting industry. God help me it’s chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor to make it worse.

Haven’t shot it yet. Certainly is different.

Let the mocking begin.

Maybe it will be a good thing - when you chase elk this year they might just die laughing when they see what your are packing laugh
Kidding - looks like it should work just fine and hope to see you post up with it over some dead critter!

Pretty sure that’s right.

When you grow tired of the ridiculing let me know.....seriously. I've been wanting to try one since they came out.

Looks good to me!
Posted By: avonac Re: Bought a Sig Cross... - 04/14/21
I have the same rifle. I bought it from a friend who also had a Q Fix and didn’t need both. So far, I really like it. My folder locks up tight and the gun has shot very well with factory Hornady. People bitch about the recall, it the gun checked a lot of boxes for me. Also, I believe Dave Tooley is spinning up barrels for it
Posted By: Gtscotty Re: Bought a Sig Cross... - 04/14/21
I picked up one in .308 at Cabela's when they came out. I like it, I found a decent load easily with 168gr BTs in spite of the component shortage and managed to knock over an antelope with it last year.

I get bored with .308s and found a guy with a 6.5 who wanted to swap barrels, so we did. It was super easy, just like swapping an AR barrel except without needing to line up a gas tube slot. I found a decent load with 140gr Gold Dots, and the Cross actually does well with 142gr ABLR and 127gr LRX loads that I worked up for my Montana.

It's not something I'd buy, but if it works for you, that's all that matters. You can't argue with the accuracy that Gtscotty posted. Unless he shot those at 25 yards...... smile

Exactly what I think everytime I see some blued steel with a tree corpse bolted to it, but as you said, to each their own.

25 yards is too long for me, I do my best work 10 and in.
Posted By: Mauser06 Re: Bought a Sig Cross... - 04/14/21
Tree corpse....🤣😂

Oh man...seriously laughing out loud at that one.
Looks like a chassis with a folding stock? Seems like nice platform.

I'm excited to learn how this one goes.

And when the 6 Creedmoor (and maybe the 22 Creedmoor) will follow. blush

No shade - I want one but haven’t found one. Among the trad guns there is always room for something new. Keep sharing what that rig does.

No one else seems to want to make a rifle that checks all the boxes:
- Light-ish weight
- Short barrels threaded appropriately for cans
- Excellent accuracy
- Long mag boxes (AICS)
- Enough stock adjustment to perfectly fit pretty much anyone
- Reasonable price for us poors

-Easy barrel swaps is also a plus (although Tooley is the only one I've heard of turning barrels for the Sig thus far)

I'd prefer a safety that locks the bolt, but, I decided that all the Pros overcome that con.

My rifle is part of the recall, so I'll be sending it in when the return box from Sig gets here.

It looks like a receiver in chassis rifle, but the receiver is actually integral to the chassis/frame. The folding stock locks up solidly.

Nothing I'd be interested in... old dog, new trick thing but whatever scratches your itch is fine by me!

Darren - I'm still trying to wrap my mind around offering the 277 FURY rather the 6CM in the initial offering. They got an awful lot of things right on the Cross but that really sucks @ss. grin

The 22 CM would be wicked.
Dave has done a bunch of barrels for them. Have a Bud that made a wildcat on the 277 Fury in 6.5 that gets a bullet to 3700 fps with a 121 grain bullet. It uses the hybrid case with the lower part of the case is steel.

6.8x51, I'm not a 270 person but you will be able to achieve a lot of velocity out of the 277 Fury.

I'd be interested to hear how he's getting ahold of the 3 piece brass as well.

Took my Sig out for a last range trip yesterday before I send it in.

It really seems to like the Gold Dots, both with StaBall and RL16, the two targets on the far right were loads that I worked up for my Kimber run through the Sig... Not great, but I could kill a deer with them. I'd love to get more of the Gold Dots, I really doubt they live up to their advertised G1 BC of 0.571, but the line does have a reputation as decent hunting bullets, which is the purpose of this rifle.

Edit: Realized it's hard to see any detail on the picture above, maybe this will show up better:

Buying anything firearms related seems like a good move right now. Especially at 40% off! Sure does ride in a pack nice from seeing your last pic.

Many years ago, I remember the local gun shop owner complaining about stainless rifles. More precisely, he was complaining about the contrast of putting a gloss black scope on them. He said the stainless thing was just a fad...

The rifle world might all look like Sig Cross's in 20 years.

I'd like to try the Fury, either In 6.8mm or the 7mm wildcat that I know will be made immediately after the cases and dies and barrels become available.

Here's kind of a bad picture of the .308 barrel, complete with the barrel extension that's headspaced with a nut. Main barrel nut not shown, but fits an AR armorer's wrench.

Dave,

I don't see much to mock, especially at a good price. There's a lot of modern technology in that rifle. Once you get used to it, I suspect you will really like it.

I look forward to your range report and pictures of dead game.

Best of luck to you and your new rifle.

Do you have weights for the parts/pieces? A rough weight of everything sans barrel and a weight on the barrel would be great.

I've been curious how things weigh out and wondering what a rebarrel could save weight wise if someone but a 22" mt rifle/ks contour on it.

For like $800? Jeez that's a lot of rifle for the dollar, I'd buy another at that price and follow the lead here re-barreling to 6 Creed, or maybe even .22 Creed. I meant to mention that the mag it comes with is a Magpul AICS mag with a customized Sig follower that has a built in feeding ramp type lip. The result is it single feeds loose rounds tossed in the ejection port perfectly, which is often an issue with AICS fed rifles. I wish I could buy just the follower for my other Magpul AICS, I really see no downside.

One of the bonuses of living less than an hour from the Sig Academy and having a good number of friends who retired to work for Sig is getting their toys bare!y used.
I grabbed a Cross (yeah, .308.......I'm trying to keep some similarity in the safe) barely used for a great price. I haven't put it through its paces too much yet, but so far I'm liking it

Unfortunately no, I can weigh the rifle alone tonight before I pack it up. I didn't weigh the barrel alone, but it is a chunk, in this post Dave Tooley says the factory 18" 6.5 barrel is 3lb and he saved 7oz going to a lighter 6.5 barrel of the same length:

I'm too new to the forum to PM anyone but if anyone knows how to get one for 40-50% off I'd totally buy one. Any thoughts between this and the 2020 Springfield 2020 Waypoint? Weighs about the same if you go stainless with the Waypoint.

That 16” .277 Fury must make quite an impression when fired in dim light. Fury indeed!

They should name it Smaug.

A 5 minute switch barrel under 7 pounds, 25" folded length...
I'd like to have a base 308 and a couple barrels.
Maybe a 7-08 and a 358.

Swap a bolt head and pick up a .223 barrel to go with those.

They are neat little rifles but not truly "light". I've shot mine a bit and accuracy is great but I've only taken it hunting a couple of times in places where I have a short walk. Most of my rifles are ~2 lbs lighter. After the season I may look into the lighter barrel options for it.
