I've got a 700 BDL that I bought last year. It is a late 80s production .308 that the previous owner switched the barreled action in to an SPS stock. It's a great rifle and I've been pleased with the accuracy. The only downside was that it would shift point of impact between bipod and sling use. I've never shot it off of a bench. Since my initial shooting last year I've managed to bed it in such a way that it doesn't even shift POI anymore. While the tupperware composition of the stock doesn't scream quality the shooting results are good and the stock only weights 26 ounces so there is a lot to like at the moment. Has anyone ever had problems with these stock failing terms of breakage or anything else? I've considered getting an aftermarket stock but I'm wondering if it will be money well spent or not.

If you have it shooting consistently, I'd not fret it being damaged. They are a dime/dozen and can be easily replaced. They're also not fragile. I'd say run it and worry about other things.

I have 3 of those stocks and they have held up quite well. Never had any problems at all.

The SPS stocks with Hogue grippy panels feel/handle great but don't give me the warm and fuzzy.

Theaded rod + Brownells glass bedding ---- you could use it to bust Jambonie heads.

I have one that is on a rifle that is shooting so good that I am not going to mess with it. I have a better stock to use just laying here but right now see no need to change it.

My experience has been that I've replaced every SPS stock I've every owned with a good stock. But I keep the SPS stocks for when I sell the rifle. Don't have any at the moment. But if you like it and if it shoots well for you, I'd suggest you just keep using it.

Well you could spend $500 - $700 and maybe, just maybe, get something that weighs 26 oz and may work as well.
My question is - why would you want to replace something that is working for you?? Bragging rights??
I have used the SPS stocks since they came out and have never had an issue with one yet.

I had two synth ADL w the checkered Tupperware
Stiffened forend w epoxy and free floated. One had the lug bedded.

Both shot fine and didnt shift.

Rather like those stocks. They are comfortable to the touch IMHO after mods, good to go.
