Thinking about trying these out. Nagging shoulder issues call for less recoil and I am thinking about giving these a go. 125gr SST, 308 Hornady Lite ammo. Anyone tried it, Did it do the job? Recoil compared to standard 150gr 308 load?

Thanks!

Not exactly, but my grandson has taken three bucks in three years using Hornady steel-cased 7.62x39 123gr SSTs, including one that should’ve gone 200 or more live-weight. The velocity on those is about 2300 IIRC. That big one last season was DRT.

I wouldn’t fret about killing power. A lot of folks are going light these days, it seems, me included, especially for meat deer.
Federal used to make a 125 gr 30-06 load power shok worked fine
I’ve used it in .308 and 7mm-08. It works excellently on deer and pigs, and recoil is noticeably reduced. Bullet performance was very good, with disruption, expansion and exit. Last deer shot with the 120gr 7mm-08 took one hop and died upon landing.

Use with confidence.

Edit: I’d consider recoil of both to be similar to .243, maybe even lighter.
My son used the Hornady Lite .308 ammo for a year when he was about 12 years old. Recoil was significantly less than standard .308 loads, and he killed a decent buck with it (2.5 or 3.5 year old 10 point). The bullet performed well at about 125 yards.

He moved on to a 6.5 CM after that.

My data is limited, but I have no reason to doubt the product. It worked well for us for a year and I've had good luck with Hornady products in general.

Thanks all! Don't think I'll have and problems with it. No super long shots so all should be good!

Thanks again,
Geo
in my impromptu expansion/penetration tests i.e. water filled milk jugs lined up the 120 sst outta a 20" barreled tikka 7mmoh8 performed very admirably holding together and making it to the 4th jug with cup and core intact. the shot was at 50 yds too which should be like the bullet hitting a solid wall. seems like velo with the 7oh8 load was 2,650fps. i'd use it confidently.
good luck,
Big Ed
I sighted in my wife's 30-06 with Hornady 150 grain reduced recoil loads before season. Rifle has a 17 inch barrel. 200 yards.

That should about equate out to your 308 reduced loads. Plenty of penetration, likely out to 300 or better. Just know your ballistic drops.

Great las. My hunting is close in, no open country so 150-200 yds at the very max.
Looking forward to a trip to the zero range!

I shoot it in the 30-06 version. It shot really well out of my fieldcraft, and an inch high at 100 put it 2.5” low at 200. That’s my limit with it, but should still have 1000+fpe at 200.
Actually 125 gr bullet at 2700 fps sounds a lot like my 6.5 cm load...
Hey- I'll have to check now. Maybe they are 125's.... Color me red.... I KNOW the other two '06 are sighted in with regular 150's, currently.

WTH - they all worked. These two were taken on the same hunt by my son and I, both at about 300, using a Rem 770 with Tasco scope,.

Yeah, yeah, I know........ smile
