I am putting together a Tikka T3X receiver in a Mesa Precision Altitude stock with a Mountain Tactical bottom metal. My action screws are too short! Anyone have a source to get some longer Tikka action screws? Thanks!

Your bottom metal needs to be the right distance from your action. Their bottom metal inlet needs to be deeper for proper case head purchase from the mag. The screws are the right length for that...

It seems that the inlet is the right distance for proper case head purchase. The screws are just a bit short. Front engages about two threads, while the rear just touches the bottom of the receiver. The factory plastic works just fine.

I had a friend who had a similar problem, the difference was that he had taken the action out of the factory stock and when he put it back in the rear screw caught just fine but the front screw was a bit short. I took a look at it and determined that when he had put it back together the recoil lug had not gone into the engaging slot in the action. With the action sitting on top of the recoil lug it was not really noticable as one would expect it to be.
Try removing the action and reinstalling making sure that the recoil lug is engaged before starting the screws.

Could be a burr or remnant in the recoil lug recess too.

Try the fit without the lug to narrow down possibles.

Or if the lug is bedded or glued in, perhaps it was set too high

Thanks for the replies. I was seated in the recoil lug just right. Come to find out, Mesa Precision includes a set of longer action screws with their stocks. I bought mine second hand and didn't get the screws from the original owner. I called Mesa, and they are sending me a new set of screws. Problem solved! 😁
