Am I sitting on piles of gold and money and fortune with my collection of M77’s? Because why is this one so much money?

3 years ago you couldn't beg someone to pay you $600 for a M77 on the Classifieds.
Am I missing something on this stainless 223??? Why is it so much $??
You're on the way to a Nula for that money.
The boat paddles are collectable and the 223's are harder to find. If you are sitting on a bunch, now is the time to be selling them. The last one I sold (about 5 months ago), I had $175 into it and sold it for over $900 after taxes..
Not defending the price but the seller has it listed as a 20” barrel version. If truly the 20” and not the standard 22”… that is the rarity in this example. Not many of those around; let alone, NIB. Having had my share/collected Zytel Ruger rifles, that is a top piece. $3k price in my book would go to the aforementioned NULA or another full custom, I wish I hadn’t liquidated that collection last year. I could have doubled my money with the current going pricescrazy

Holy Hell Batman! .....Hb
Why not just buy a Cooper? You’ll have $$ left over towards optics.

I’m not big into Model 77’s, but when a 1970 dated ‘flat-bolt’ in 284 Winchester languished on consignment a few years ago, I bought it. It’s minty, came with scope rings, ammo, & empty cases.
The first I bought…… it released the empty prematurely, back to Ruger. Rebarreled it too.

Because it would be really out of place in a Ruger collectors line up of rifles. laugh
This is about the rifle, the item, not the rifle as a shooting tool.

Fair 'nuff.

I to do not understand the crazy price but,

223 in this model is scarce.

Boat paddle guns have become collectable & are gaining steam.

Green stock inserts are highly sought after, if you're into that sort of thing.

New in the box for for a rifle that's a minimum of 22 yo.

A combo of all the above.

And,,,,,,,,,,,,, I still don't get it. But I'm not a collector.. This one might be the holy grail of the Zytels or something.
Doesn’t look as though the seller is going for the collector market, but rather banking on light and handy and available. An earlier thread here bemoaned the lack of .223 bolt rifles, and after a bit of web poking I had to admit it was true.

I have a Hawkeye AW .223 fitted with a factory walnut stock, and it’s very handsome and a good shooter. Replaced the trigger spring with one from Ernie and it’s pretty good. A little more work would eliminate the tiny bit of creep, but I’m calling it good for now. My HE however, isn’t anyone’s idea of light.

Last week I called my dealer about one of the new CZ 600 Lux models (7” twist), but those are still a dream for now.

Yup. Any model 77 was a $4-$500 firearm. Now the values have gone crazy
I's crazy how collectible the boat paddle Rugers have gotten, at one point you couldn't hardly give the rifles away.

Funny thing about collecting or human nature.

When something gets discontinued the market goes nuts, & even unpopular models that didn't sell are then sought after.

The boat paddle is a prime example. Some wanted to puke at the sight of them, they didn't sell well is the reason they got continued. Read this; nobody wanted them, the masses didn't like them, they bombed, so Ruger gave up.

And then,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I'd be highly suspect of that Ruger being a 20" barrel, Ultralight.

The Model designation on the box has it as a "KM77RMKIIP".

Translates to a Ruger KM= Stainless M77 R=with rings, MKII=bolt action with 3 position saftey, P=Zytel (skeleton) stock.

If you look at picture #3 at the auction. It shows/has the Caliber designation, cal. 223, stamped on the barrel shank (22" barrel). The Ultralight barrels 20" had a short shank barrel, and there is not enough room for a cal. designation. UL cal. designation is stamped forward of the barrel shank.

He may have measured the barrel wrong, or the barrel has been cut.

I concur with your assessment and unfortunately there is no L in the designation indicating the 20” “A” contour barrel. It’s a standard 22” rifle.
Same seller has another boat paddle in 7.62x39 but it's not garnering near the price. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/920804821

Boat paddle. sick. Hurts my eyes.
I would guess he measured from the front of the receiver
The old saying goes: "it is what it is". A lot of you guys in disbelief. ha ha.. Sit down, relax and wish you bought more of them when they were $349.99...
I want only two Rugers-

A Ruger M77 guide gun in 30/06
&
A Ruger M77 express in 30/06

I would open my safe and trade any number of RSI’s and RL’s I have for those two.

I wish I had bought a few when they were cheap. About 10 years ago there was a Boat Paddle 77 in 280 with a Leupold 3-9 at the LGS for $450. I went home to sleep on it and in the evening decided to go back for it. It was gone and I've always wished I had jumped on it
I have 1 of those boat paddles in 223 guess I'd sell it to a fire member if they want it for only $2500. But not putting it on an auction site....mb

I don't know Bob, maybe now is the time for you to take advantage of the lead being provided by the one currently on gunbroker. List it with a buy it now of $3K and you may just fall into a dry lake and come out with an ass full of fish.

What's the hierarchy of desirability for the Zytel 77? Gunbroker's completed auctions aren't overly clear. I see some high priced 308 and 7.62x39 models. Say we're only talking stainless M77 Mark II right handed boat paddle/Zytel rifles, what's the most to least desirable chamberings?
This Ruger just went 3k plus

I’ve noticed the 7.62x39, 223, and 35 Whelen consistently go for a lot of money. I gave up on finding a reasonably priced one in 223.

There was a 223 listed here last week that I should have bought , I have no idea where it went. I do own a 50th university 264 win mag if someone really wants one, really bad .

If you have a stainless short action Ruger, you can get an aftermarket barrel with a fast twist, and if ya got a Zytel stock on your stainless action... you're in business...

you can get the piece from Ruger that converts your bolt from .473 bolt face, to .378 bolt face...

I did that for a 20 Practical build, that the action was a 243....
Jebus. Prices for everything have gone through the roof with no end in sight.

I had a boat paddle 223 several years ago . Sold it here for 400ish.
There was a skeleton 77/.22 mag that went for $2125.00 last night.
That’d look real nice, next to an $800 Nylon 66 (garden variety brown). People are insane....

High Noon: You are correct!
And I have to keep updating my 9 page long (single typed) "firearms inventory and current values" every couple of months!
Used scopes are even gaining noticeably in values?
I do NOT know where, or when it will stop.
Maybe our monies are worth less?
Hold into the wind
VarmintGuy
Saw a 7.62x39 boat paddle for $1700.
This one is gonna go big$$$
