Hello all,

First all, Happy Independence Day!

I'm looking at putting a rail on a Tikka I am planning to buy. Is there any actual cons to a 20 MOA rail? Seems all the rails I like are not available in 0 cant. Does the cant have any negative impact on the scope? Optically I mean?

No, you'll be fine with the 20 moa rail.

Thanks NVhntr. Really don't know much more than "install scope, go chase critters" since I've never needed a 20 MOA rail...but recall reading/hearing that the further off optical center, the lower quality the optical performance of your scope...or some such.

It doesn't seem to hinder the long range competitors that use them.
I have them on several rifles and haven't seen a downside.

I don’t see any reason why a 20 MOA rail wouldn’t work but if you want a nice rail in 0, 10 and 20 MOA try Murphy Precision.

Good luck and happy Independence Day.

Can be off center with a 20 MOA just the same as 0 MOA.

Only advantage is for longer ranges.

Right,

Not something I need, more a side effect of wanting a rail on a Tikka. But if it doesn't make any difference, right on!

Apparently you have been looking in the wrong spot if you want a 0 MOA Tikka rail, this one is fairly priced and the best IMO because of the recoil lug and machine work, try mountain tactical

This one is a little lower profile than the MT rail:

I like the mountain tactical rails. They work like a champ. I also shoot near and far with the 20 moa version and have no issues. However, if looking for a great 0 moa rail, I'd keep an eye out for a used CTR rail. They are steel and lower profile than most. I'll use those when I'm limited to shooting out to 1,000 yards. Past that, and I like using the 20 moa. That's all dependent on which scope and cartridge you're using though.

Right on, thank you all. You're getting me smart on rails here.

I'm not even really thinking that two weaver bases and some loctite are going to create a situation that ever causes me grief...but having the ability to put rings anywhere you want over the receiver looks like its the way to go.

I'll keep my eyes open for the used CTR rail as well, they do look nice.
