I’ve owned quite a few Steyr SBS guns, still own a .376. Won a scout in a local auction for a really good price in .308. Doubt I’d mount a forward optic, probably toss an SWFA 3-9x on it. Looking forward to shooting it this weekend and seeing how it does.

Anyone love/hate them?

I have a SS 376 that I traded with a member here for. Last one was a 270 WSM and it was utter stupidity on my part to have sold that rifle.

I think they are an outstanding rifle that does not get the respect it deserves.

I don’t think I’ve ever handled one but from the looks a 376 in that handy damned rifle should be all kinds of useful.

My .376 is just the mountain rifle, 20” barrel.
Still have some rounds of the load I worked up in the last Steyr .308 I owned. See how they do in this one!

I have a 1960s gun magazine where Elmer Keith reviewed a 350 rem mag with forward mounted optic.

He thought it would be ideal for my Alaska neck of the woods.

So this review, pre-dates the politically correct "scout-word" douche bags who try to define what a rifle with forward mounted scope should be.

Actually using one in 20-40 below zero, it actually had an advantage: the lense wouldn't get fogged by my breath.

But comb height was critical to quick acquisition of crosshairs. So had to modify comb height to be EXACT.

Something they get terribly wrong on the Marlin and steyr rifle, the comb height is all fked up.

Was shooting my sons 308 Steyr Scout on Saturday, shoots fine. Cammo stock and camo Nikon 3-9x. Handy rifle with 2 5 shot mags. Death on pigs etc. with 130gn Speer HP's.

They look like a lotta fun........would love hunting in the woods with one of those.

Mounted a Zeiss conquest 3-9x and shot it this weekend. Used a box of reloads I had left from a steyr SBS HB .308 I sold A couple years ago. 165gr SGK over 4895. MOA 4 shot groups, recoil was negligible and fed like it was on rails. Definitely going hunting this fall. Very handy package that connects a lot of dots.

On the ones I've owned (308 and 376), I mounted the scope in the traditional receiver position. I took a Whitetail with the 376...definitely enough gun :-)

I have a .376 and pounded a pile of deer with it. Probably killed more with it than any other single rifle.

Those are pretty cool. That 376 needs to leave the deer woods and take some more larger and toothy critters.

I have two presently. I had the Cooper model and sold it in 2004. Regretted it instantly. I tried to get another but at the time I believe Steyr was on the no import list. I was able to find a tactical model which was and still is the most accurate rifle I’ve owned. A few years later I was able to pick up a Scout black. I have found they are partial to 150 grain TTSX. Great rifles. Hope to pick up a .376 someday.

Actually one of my desicrated "rifle rescues" for relatively small money. All original and functional 'but for', the over enthusiastic stock circumcision. Usual suspect the iconic "Bubba" of these American shores! Maybe it not qualifying to "be all that it could be", but 'works for me'. Achieving ultra-lightweight.

Downside, Walmart temorarily out of ammo! Such the guy there informing me, but as admitting a bit uncomfortable as working in ladies underwear. Don't think he was even a Walmart employee and swooned when I mentioned Mannlicher!
