My LGS has a 7mm-08 BLR on the used rack for $650. Is a blued/walnut gun. Good shape with normal use wear. Looks like a good shooter to me. The trigger is heavy, probably 8lbs plus. Can it be corrected?

It can be corrected. There's a guy named Neil Jones who does it. My BLR trigger is maybe 4.5 lbs, I keep meaning to send it to him, but it's sort of good enough, so I haven't gotten around to it.

Oh yes it can be corrected, I have had a half dozen BLR's and my gunsmith did trigger work on every one of them, he got my triggers down to 4lbs or so...Good luck...Hb

Thanks for the reply’s guys. I did a quick search and I saw Neil’s name come up a couple of times. I was hoping not to have to send it to a out of state smith. A gunsmith I am not. That being said basic task I can handle, was hoping it was something that could be tackled DIY.

It's an easy DIY fix. Easy peasy.

I had him do my 358 Win years ago. I never weighed the trigger upon return but I’d say it’s in the 3 1/2 lb range. Works fine now.

Funny how things work...I picked up a .308 Pre-81 BLR yesterday and shot it this morning. Shot great but I did not love the trigger. Was thinking about asking this exact question

I have a BLR take down and the trigger is no better or worse then the other 2 or more BLR's I have owned. I will not risk sending it to a Gunsmith to adjust it. It is good enough.

Well I went back today and bought it. It came with two boxes of ammo, I wasn’t expecting. It did find a video where a guy had swapped out a spring that work in reducing the trigger pull. Will see how it shoots in it’s current state.

I like them myself. Dealing with the trigger is just part and parcel with them.

I’m always on the look out for 7-08 or maybe one in a 6.5CM. They’re handy and usually shoot very well.

I just picked one up today in 358 for $750 used. It's a newer one in good shape vut the trigger could use a little work. I may have paid a bit too much for it but they've been hard to find in 358. Now that I'm casting again and powder coating I thought it would be a good one to run some 200g cast flat noses through.

Dandy rifles. I have had an original perch belly clipped steel .308 that would shoot with most bolt guns. I stupidly let one of my high school buddies have it. I also had an the '81 version in .243 and 7mm-08. Their triggers were both less friendly than the older one but both shot around an inch or a bit over. Again let them get away somehow and wish I had at least the .308 and 7mm-08 back. Also had a chance trade for a scare .222 in the BLR at one time for a super price and again stupidly passed.

My buddy found a 284 Win once in a BLR…. Kinda wished I’d made a move for it.

My 358 is an excellent shooter. I kinda like that Plain old 200 grain Silvertips for an easy button.

Too much LMAO , you stole it , unless the previous owner stored it in a hole dug outside his home.

It's actually in decent shape. It has a couple of dings in the stock but doesn't look like it's been fired much. I think it will be a good platform to launch cast and powder coated bullets from.

I used to be scared of them and their rack pinion bolt operation and trigger but it's not a big deal. They're not simple as an Mauser 98 nor as reliable and durable but anyone can service them if you pay attention and take your time. I've worked on an new one and an older 81 steel reciever and I'm not an person with an exceptionally high mechanical aptitude.
