Ooohhhh, that is nice!!!!

I've been a fan of M77's since I bought my first one in '78, but never saw a flatbolt in the flesh.

Congrats!

That’s a beauty. I’ve got one in 308 also. Wish it had sights like yours.

TY for sharing sqweeler, that is a nice looking rifle. I handled a flatbolt several years ago at a local gun shop and they had it priced $449, if I remember correctly. It was a 243 or a 6MM and I dont think they knew what they had

I’ve got one just like it in .30-06. Very nice rifle.
Also a round top in .30-06 but no iron sights.

Also a .308 and .243 with no iron sights.
I like them flat bolts.

I think the 77 Flatbolt with sights in 308 is one of the coolest rifles Ruger made. Great condition on that one!

I'd be curious what it set you back?

I briefly had one just like that but in 350 Rem Mag. Another, without sights, was a 284. The 350 was marked "Krupp Steel". Back then, I never kept anything for long. I would trade until I got something so undesirable I was stuck with it. GD

Sqweeler, very nice!

From September 1968 Guns & Ammo. Note the original Ruger "Vertical Split Rings" on the early 77s

I have one in the back of my safe in 243
I have never heard the story of why Ruger changed the Bollt

Very nice. Had one in 270 and like a idiot, I sold it. It had a extremely tight chamber.

The Flatbolt handle was Rugers attempt to copy the handle of a David Llewellyn Lloyd stalking rifle. Although elegant in design, the gunwriters of the day generally panned the styling. Bill Ruger listened, and changed the handle to a Brownell style shape with a hole in the knob, the “Hollowbolt”. It was short lived on long action rifles only and was eventually changed to the round bolt we all know.

Ruger had an ad about 30 years ago that feature a rifle just like yours that an Australian commercial hunter used to kill 10,000 animals and then sent it in to be rebarreled. I'm a flat bolt fan. Would love to have an early one in .308. Great score on a nice rifle!
