I have a Sako 85 Finnlight in 6.5x55 and I have grown to hate the soft touch stock. I like the small gray grip panels (rubber?) but I don’t like the black coating on the remainder of the stock. It hasn’t really degraded to the point of becoming sticky or tacky as some owners have complained about. I suppose I would just rather have a laminate or synthetic without the soft touch coating.

What are my options at this point?

From my short internet searches it seems as though almost all stock manufacturers have discontinued the 85 stocks except for a few who still offer a short action (85 S).
Options are very few from what im coming up with. Left message with McMillan, no response as of yet. Oregunsmithing,MG Arms and MPI are possibilities.
I think Numrich has a selection of Sako wood stocks.
I have a Pendleton composite stock/Oregunsmithing and it is quite good. It is light and stiff similar to my McMillan Edge, and Wayne is great to talk to regarding stocks.

The one issue you will have is he does not have a Sako mold, and I went with the High Comb Sporter. It is based off a Weatherby style and it has a longer and wider forearm so it feels quite a bit different.

I can text pictures this weekend if you want to see it.
Still looking for a replacement stock for this Sako 85 Finnlight 6.5x55.

Please let me know if you have a stock to sell of have a lead on one for sale somewhere.
These may interest you......

From what I see on their site they only have stocks for 85-S. I believe the 6.5x55 would be an 85-M.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I would call them. I believe that they inlet for all Sako rifles.
MPI is what I’m hearing. I’m in the same boat ( same caliber), my stick is really sticky, ditto for an A7S 270! Snottie on here refinished his, check his posts out.
When I talked to MacMillan earlier in the year, they thought they might start supplying stocks for the Sako 85 action late this year…..have you heard from them one way or another?
