Sako 223 in any early version is scarce. I have some really scarce of scarce in 223. A deluxe pre Garcia Bofors, and a Mannlicher, although it's not pre Garcia is is still very scarce. The heavy barrel is 223, but not Pre Garcia....
Kirk, you have one of the nicest collection of Sako’s I’ve seen.
Really nice
Here are another scarce couple of Sako Actions on H&R Ultra-Varmint rifles made in the early 1970's. a 17 Remington and 223...
The stocks resemble the Sako Deluxe to me. Beautiful.

Seriously though, gun porn was basically invented with Sakos on display. You can notice their color from across the room. Only thing close to them is the older Browning Safaris.

The Golden Bear is a L61R clone.
“Soon after Howa releasing the Howa M300, the company began working on a new type of a hunting rifle in order to meet the demand for large-caliber bolt-action rifles in Japan. During the development, the designers used the Finnish SAKO L61R "Finnbear" as basis of the design.”

Yes, I have used the "peep" sights (there are several different versions of them) on my L46 in 222 Rem., on two L579's in 308WCF and a L61R in 30-06.
I still have several of the "peep" sights in my gunbox gathering dust.

M995 Sako, one of the best hunting rifles they ever made.
A 338 Win Mag. Very early rifle, serial number 8. Sako boys say they weren’t made in order.
Rather nasty morning out, so what the hey!
My taste in rifles has evolved over the last half century, but Sako's were my first luv'.
Walked into the LGS many years ago when I first started collecting Sako's.
BAMMO, there it was!
At that time I was financially embarrassed and had to put this on lay-away.
Paid it out @ $25 per week, IIRC.
Even then many of the Sako's I encountered in my circuit of Pawn Shops and LGS's looked like thy had been in battle, or were stocked with "sapwood".
Not this one. It was pristine.
This one has 1 in 16 twist and with the 43 Gr. TSX

I’ve got exactly one. A vixen 223 sporter. I’ve tried exactly one load in it Sierra 1365 over 748. .5” five shot groups. I quit right there. There was a heavy barrel 222 mag right next to it but I couldn’t afford both…. I got the 223. Leaving that deuce mag still haunts me….
so do you maroons pronounce it Say-Ko or Sah-Ko ?
Say-Ko is a watch ... hint
say ko, I don't speak Finnish
Never trust anybody from a country that hasn’t won a world war. America has done that and says the word it is written; SAKO is long A so it is Say ko.
It is an acronym anyway…

We had a guy on our deer lease that pronounced it correctly. Everyone pronounced it incorrectly just to aggravate him. I just can’t wrap my fine 7th grade mind around Socko even if it’s correct.

I had one years ago and had it made into the custom gun I showed earlier in 223. It is nice as a L46, but not very pleasing to the eye. The micro grooves, I’m not sure if indeed it is Marlin Micro grooves or a Sako barreled action that Sako made with similar rifling to Marlin made Micro grooving.
I have seen other Sakos with the same rifling, so that is why I think it may be all Sako barreled action marketed by Marlin.
My preference would be to put a little more with the price and get a standard sporter in 222 than have the Marlin. I don’t find the 322 particularly attractive…
Yesterday I looked at a Sako Mauser chambered in 300 H&H. Blueing was great stock was a blond color and was fair. A couple of things threw me off. Ivory diamond under the action and double set triggers. Recoil pad and it was crushed.

Guns in living rooms and on tables don't show what they are made for. I agree, the usefullness is more important than the looks. Here are a couple with a Sako Deluxe in 30-06 and a Sako deluxe in a Model 75 in 300 Weathereby...

That 7x33 sure is an oddity on these shores. Not a whole lot of seal hunting these days. Would make a cool javelina rifle.

244 deluxe is a hens tooth…
I figured someone might say that.
What I meant was I purchased them all new, in 58, 60, and the 06 in 63. And yes, pre Garcia. The phone was ringing so I cut the sentence short.
I know about pre 64 Winchesters, just happen to have a model 64.
This is a 7 mag I bought a few months ago
I bought this AIII in 1983 (I was 17 at the time) out of the Penny Saver in California. It was chambered in 280 Rem Imp at the time, but the throat was blown way, way out.
I still hunted with it until about 1990 then it went to the back of the safe for 30+ years.
I recently rebarreled it in 243 Catbird using a Hart blank.

Nice rifles you have over there in Katy sir. My guys and I put the plumbing and AC in Katy Taylor high school in 77-78. It was my first big job as a superintendent. We made good money on it.
Lots of great looking guns here! Color me green with envy.

Man I wish I’d have gotten into the sakos earlier in life. I’ve got a pile of 75’s, but there’s a lot of older ones I’d have liked to have bought when they were affordable. The 17 Remingtons have alluded me. I’ve got a nib I 75 action that’s gonna be a 17 someday. Great pics by everyone who shared! Maybe I’ll get mine out and get a pic to share.
My AI (and first Sako) bought in 1990, made in ‘88.
.17 Rem wearing a 4.5x14x40 Vari-X3. Love this rifle.
I have a couple that have been down the road and back a few times.
This is an old 222 Remington that still shoots great as long as I shoot light bullets. I think is has a 1 in 16 inch twist. Fun to shoot and a great rifle for scouting the woods.
This one is an old 308 I found in the used and abused rack at the gun shop. It came with a great bore and a beat up exterior that kept the asking price low and the selling price even lower. It has some small pits scattered along the barrel and action, but cutting the barrel back a couple of inches took care of the worst of it and the rifle is much more handy. It is out for some cerakote now and hopefully it will come back looking much better. While it has seen better days the rifle shoots great and is slick as butter.
