Cabela's down in Texas bought out a closing Buda, TX gun store's inventory, to include 8 Ruger No #1's in .250 savage.

They have been customized with case colored receivers and scroll work by Tyler Gun Works.

Seems like a good deal @$1799.

Though I'm not necessarily a No #1 guy, I did buy a Tyler Gun Works' customized Ruger Blackhawk from the same store's inventory and the Fort Worth store shipped it at no cost to Cabela's Kansas City.

The customized Ruger Blackhawks moved quickly. I suspect the No #1's will too.

those are pretty. Looks like the would have got ones with fancier walnut for customs. Nice but plain wood compared to some other #1's.

Pretty cool looking upgrade. Unfortunately none got the random Ruger well figured stocks, but they all look pretty good.
The stainless one that comes up in that search has a good piece of wood, but $1000 more

One is already gone. I'd have a very hard time passing on one of those if didn't have to drop a $5000 transmission into my wife's car.

Just think of it as a $7000 transmission.

If only he would have looked for a better deal and did the work himself, he could have done the transmission and bought 2 rifles.

That wood is just what you get from Ruger these days on No. 1's. Looking at what they already charge Lipsey's to put out these limited runs I imagine they'd cost half again as much, maybe twice as much, if they bothered to give them even the kind of wood you find on most any CZ .22. (Yes, I'm very disappointed with Ruger about this and it shows.)

That said, these are still nice rifles in their own right. The 24" barrel adds to the slender look and the .250 Savage is a great little classic cartridge and underappreciated these days. The scroll work and case coloring looks well done in the pictures and that does add value over an unmodified rifle. The price doesn't make it an immediately flippable opportunity, but we're talking CabelaPro so that's just the way it is.

They aren't making this combo anymore so there are only a finite amount out there. The way I figure it, if a fellow wants one then buy once, cry once; you'll always make more money but then have something you'll appreciate and enjoy into the future.


I got one of these .250 No. 1A's when they were first offered and had Roger Renner turned it into an "Ultra-Slender English Stalking Rifle" and am highly pleased with it.

That model would have looked sweet with Circassian, similar to the #1ah in 25-06 that many were fitted with
