No, I am not affiliated in any way. I just thought it was a nice rifle. Still under $400.
That rifle is rebarreled with an XTR barrel from the 80's. They had to cut an extractor slot in it. Being totally unoriginal, it's not worth much to a collector, but if done right, could be a nice rifle. Not really my cup of tea though. Others mileage may vary.
The action is worth the price.

Maybe right now. No telling if it will be worth the price in a week.

Thank you. I wondered if the XTR existed pre 64.

No problem. The first XTR fwt was made in 1980 and made their debut in 1981. The rifle you found is interesting, as I always thought Winchester should have made a 257 Roberts fwt and 7x57 fwt pre 64 model 70. As we all know, the price it's at right now, does not mean that is what it's going to sell for. There may be a couple guys that say, damn I need this. But with the barrel stamp showing an 80's barrel on a pre 64, it's a turn off to me. We should put it to a vote/contest, and predict how much the rifle will sell for. I'm wagering about $800.00. Could be less, could be more???

Bingo. In the last few months I've ran across some $650-$700 pre 64 model 70's. Those are probably less money than what this rifle will sell for. We'll see what this one sells for though. Always interesting, what happens on GB.

Looks like they set the barrel back a thread or 2 as well. Hopefully the new reamer was a good match.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. The shank is shorter than normal. Lets hope they did the work right for sure. Not hard to do, if you know your stuff. Extractor slot and setting the barrel back and finish reaming it. The rifling looks good. If done right, probably a good shooter.
Went for $900 first go round.

Good find AK. Whoever bought it, got it to his FFL and the FFL probably slapped him upside the fn head and said, "hey this rifle is totally unoriginal, how much did you give for it?"... Just a wild azzed guess there, but likely what happened. I was right that it would probably sell for around $800 as well. I'll keep an eye on it, but I'm pretty sure about that one.

What's really funny is the price is going up on this one.. Probably by guys that don't know what it is.

I'll send them an email and get some more info. Hopefully..
am in no way a collector. Just a shooter.

If 7x57 brass were not unobtanium at this point, I might put in a bid. Even though I have put 7-08 barrels on a Rem 700 and on a 7 at this point.
It’s the same seller. Perhaps a non paying bidder

Actually there's a lot of Norma available, and I've seen some Prvi recently.

There is plenty of ammo in 7x57 available.
No one wants to make any bets, as to how much it will sell for this time?
Agreed on ammo and brass availability, I even found Hornady 275 Rigby headstamped at LGS
Here's what a real XTR fwt looks like:

XTR FWT 7x57

Another nice one

2 very nice examples and both made in 1982.

Bout the same. Sum of parts. $900 isn’t/wasn’t bad for that stock and action.

I have not bought a single round of loaded centerfire ammo since 1982, and only then because I had bought a new rifle while working out of town for a month.

I am presently needing 100 cases to load for a 6mm. All the typical suppliers, Grafs, Natchez, Midway, Starline, Midsouth, had nothing available in 6mm, 257, 6.5x57, or 7x57 as of last week. Except for niche suppliers like Nosler which they want near $2 each for.

Midway says 7x57 is "coming soon". I asked to be notified.

If one has a source for brass which can be necked to 6mm, at a typical price, I would love to hear it.

I know where 200 pcs of 6mm rem brass is. Its expensive though. Just like it is everywhere. It's not easy to find either.

Also saw this the other day:

There are some glitches (plugs) in the stock, that I don't like. Still, it's probably worth $300+ by itself. It's definitely not all original, so that dings it a bit. .
Except it didn’t sell ,thus the RELIST

It did sell. Had 21 bids on it. Bidder didn't pay. We'll see what it goes for this time.

What do you consider a "typical" price? I may know of a source for 7x57 brass...

70 XTRs are push feeds, so whoever installed the barrel would have had to cone the barrel tenon too.
Could have been sold and then returned after inspection as well.

I love mine. Almost as much as I love the pre 64's. They were built right and look great. They tend to shoot real well too. All plusses in my book.

Less than $1/piece. Got the PPU 6.5x57 from Graf's.

I think I had to anneal the last batch after sizing, but that is okay.
Gee, wonder what I could get for the Ingwe Special.... wink
Ends in 3 days.
