Getting ready to load a batch of .300H&H brass with 200gr NPT's lit off with FGMM 215 primers. I have sufficient supply of H4831SC, H1000, RL26, and StaBall 6.5 to do the full run. Going back through the 24HCF archives, looks like H4831 is the preferred powder. Before I push the "Easy Button", just checking if anything new has come up in the past couple years that would lead me to consider one of the other powders?

Primary consumers will be a Pre-64 M70 that I picked up earlier this year. And a LH M70 Classic that Douglas re-barreled for me last year. "Looks like" 70grs of H4831SC should get me in the ball park of 2800fps. Should be sufficient for anything I might want to chase. What say the 'Fire ?

I’ve been using H4350 in mine with 180 BTs. I think you’re on the right track with 4831 though.

Post up what you get. I might just copy your work whistle

71.5gr R25 with a 200gr Accubond right at 2850fps has worked very well for me.

Orion I've just started loading for a P64 super grade.

With new norma brass, 200 Sierra, Federal 215 primers and RL25;

69.0 2823
70.0 2879
71.0 2940
72.0 2973

3 shot groups measured by lab radar.

Excellent bullet choice. You should be able to find a very accurate load for your H&H. Those 200's usually shoot very well. Good luck with it.

Damn…. I need to cheat off of your work. That’s great speed. I’d launch them into elk, no problemo!

Sir, Appreciate the load data. Any chance that you might have tried RL26? I have a good stash of RL26. However, about out of RL25. My goal is an accurate load north of ~2850fps. Once I find a consistently accurate load at or above middle of the road velocity, I generally call it good. Thank you !

Where's gunner. I think he has a good load with H4831?? I know my 308 Norma loves that powder. Can't beat that 200gr Nosler partition either. Do not be worried about reaching screaming hot velocities either! If that bullet goes clean through elk at 30-06 velocities, the 300H&H is going to be that much better. I used to run 2,900fps in my 300 win mags. If I ran 2,800-2850 in the H&H with excellent accuracy, I'd call it a day.

The 308 Norma magnum has about the same case capacity as the H&H. This is the load I run:

It's running right around 2,800 fps. Like I said, if the 30-06 hammers them at 2,650 fps, the H&H and Norma magnum will work that much better. Although "better" is awfully questionable after you've hit them with the 30-06. Hard to imagine much better than DRT.

Haven't yet tried 26, but it's on the to do list after hunting season.

bsa, yeah, a 200gr NPT @ 2800fps is not going to bounce off anything I will ever hunt. Anything above 2800fps that maintains accuracy is just gravy...

FWIW I've shot one test series with 200 Ptn & RL26. WW brass & 215s @ 3.580"OAL in a 24" barrel. Speeds measured at 10' not corrected to MV, so add... 25-30fps. It was 75* that day with a good breeze. 4-shot groups. No bolt lift noted, no other sign of pressure.

67-2759
68-2792-best group that day at 1 1/4"
69-2840
69.5-2845
70-2876

Speer #15 has data for newer powders. They stopped at 68.9 of RL26 in Federal brass with a 215 @ 2780fps.

Yes sir.

I doubt you will find any load data for any powder introduced in the past 20 years. You can, however, safely use 300 WSM data to get you going. I think I'm currently using R17 and 19

I found 200 Partitions to work well with Reloders 23 and 26 as well as Magnum and StaBall HD.
