Does anyone here have a 22 creedmoor. Was wondering what kind of accuracy and ballistics you’re getting and what have you hunted with it?
Posted By: AU7MM08 Re: 22 creedmoor - 04/21/24
Seems like 22 Creedmoor would be an amazing predator and pronghorn rifle.

Not sure if 22 is legal in all western states so I would check before heading on a pronghorn hunt

What does the 22 creedmoor offer that the 22-250 or 220 swift can’t already do??

Another cartridge to sell a rifle....

Here we go again...

Primarily, the Creedmoor is twisted correctly from the factory (1-8"). Secondly, its case design incorporates all the best current thinking on accuracy, ie, little body taper and 30* shoulder.

If a person can think a new thought, the 22 CM is a great cartridge - if a person can't, the 22-250 is also a great cartridge, but most are twisted for light bullets in factory rifles.

The good news, Lapua makes brass for both...

Well, for starters, heavies in the Swift aren't an option in a short action.
Posted By: Big Stick Re: 22 creedmoor - 04/21/24
A modest length Speedmire,will scoot a .585 BC to 3200fps+,with minimal recoil,superb accuracy/precision and with a big smile on one's face. Hint.

Of course I shoot 22-250 and Swift too, along with multiple other .224" platforms. The Speedmire is THE no bullschit way to fly,on a .473" bolt. Hint.

Pass the Alpha brass and hold The Fluff. I only have them in 1-7",7.5" and 8",with 7" obviously covering the most territory and atmospherics. Hint.

I really do get very tired of all the hate on any of the Creedmoor cartridges and the what does it do better question. The what it does better is come in a factory barrel with the correct twist rate and super Accurate factory ammo for the non-hand loaders that want to shoot long, heavy, aerodynamic bullet. That’s it, end of discussion. If you can’t accept that, then you probably voted for Joe Biden and think he’s a good choice in the next election as well.

I had no interest in Creedmoor anything until the 22 Creedmoor appeared. I had been desirous of a 22 centerfire since I got rid of my 220 Swift in 1983, dumb move. Anyway, I had looked at the 308 case based 22's and they seemed too much of a good thing. Right when I was about to have a 224 TTH built, the 6mm brass became unobtainable in any quantifiable availability. My desire continued on slow-burn. After purchasing my first Sig Cross 308 and realizing it is basically a switch barrel rig I purchased a third for a 22 Creedmoor build. I have that gun in my hands and will begin load development soon.

I'm told I'm incorrect about Lapua making 22CM brass - not sure how I came up with that, but somehow I did lol...

Also, Lapua 22-250 brass doesn’t work well in some chambers. CIP vs SAAMI standards being the culprit, as I recall.
Posted By: prairie_goat Re: 22 creedmoor - 04/23/24
Suspect once more SAAMI pressured tested data for 22 Creedmoor comes out, lots of guys will be disappointed in the velocities, versus what they’re coming up with now in their wildcats.

For instance the press release put up by SAAMI a couple months back showed an 80 grain bullet at 3250 and 62,000 psi. Some of the loads found from individuals online are a bit more…optimistic.

Hodgdon’s Reloading Data Center also now has data.
Posted By: Big Stick Re: 22 creedmoor - 04/24/24
Have been shooting 22-250AI for nearly 40yrs. Never had a Speedmire longer than 30",nor shorter than 21" and know it rather well. Hint.

Actual trigger time, reliably fhuqks Droolers up,while they "get" to read about it. Pass the Alpha and hold The Fluff. Hint.

Just sayin'................

22Creed default case water capacity is 50gn in QL. 220 Swift is 47gn, 22 cheetah is 54gn. 22Creed should nestle right in between the Swift and Cheetah assuming the same barrel lengths and projectiles.

I shoot Swift and CHeetah too. Hint.

The Speedmire is THE no bullschit way to fly,on a .473" bolt. Hint.

Pardon me ´cause I don't get it, Big Stick, what is "Tghe Fluff"?
Posted By: Big Stick Re: 22 creedmoor - 04/24/24
Ask Bradgelina and Goat Fhuqk,to expound even further upon a chambering they've never even seen, let alone shot and in their rifles that don't exist. They are THE Fluffiest Of Phony Fhuqks and Amazingly STUPID Crying Kchunts to boot. Hint.

Just sayin'...................
Posted By: minengr Re: 22 creedmoor - 04/25/24
Don't have a 22 Creed. I do have a CHeetah. Pretty sure I'd pick correctly twisted from the factory and decent brass over my current setup.

Necked down 308BR brass that shoots nothing bigger than 55gr in the 1-16 twist barrel isn't ideal with today's available components.
Posted By: Big Stick Re: 22 creedmoor - 04/25/24
I actually have a 1-16" PN S/S SM 22-250AI spout,wearing parallel(to the bore) flutes,on a modest contour. While a fhuqking hammer,it's useless. Hint.

R/P UBBR brass has been tough to score for decades and MUCH over hyped to boot. Hint.

The Speedmire is THE no bullschit way to fly,on a .473" bolt. Hint.

Pass the Alpha and hold The Fluff. Hint.

So, I get those positives for the 6.5: Factory rifles and loaded ammo everywhere.

Sort of for the 6: Some factory rifles and ammo offerings, but no very prolific.

The 22? You probably need to put up a list of all the readily available offerings in rifles and ammo….or maybe YOUR uncle got eaten by cannibals too?;)

Right now, it seems the 22CM has a lot of ‘potential’ in the market, but is still in niche builder/buyer/loader phase?…..which doesn’t give it many of the arguments for its predecessors….yet.

Since we are on the subject:
Having one new 26 inch 8" twist 22 creed barrel in hand, along with a couple boxes of Alpha brass and primers for same.

What is the longest bullet it will stabilize?
I have 69 gr HPBT, 77 gr poly tip boat tail (green), and 80 gr poly tip boat tail (red). All sold as seconds from Midway.

The 77s "kiss" at 2.602 COAL, and will be loaded as that.
