I was wondering how difficult it is to remove the silly ramp sights on Remington's model 673 guide rifle.

Thanks,
Derek

Dear Derek,
Shouldn`t bee too hard. I just took the barrel oof the one I had in my shop and made it into a 458x2 1/4" American. NOW! It has punch!

No problem at all with taking the rib and that silly front sight off ... just have a handful of them little screws to put back in the holes because the ones in the rib will stick way up....

As others have said, it's very easy. The nice thing is the 4 plug screws for the scope bases leave you with only one more to get to plug the rib screw holes.

Does anyone have a pic of one with the rib and sharkfin sight removed that can be posted?

I'll try to get one up in the morning.

here you go. There are 6 screws holding the rib in place, and 4 plugs in the base holes. I really like this rifle now that the rib is gone. I would love to see this stock design from mcmillan. The rifle is stock, in .300 SAUM w/ vx-III 2.5-8 sitting in talleys. Don't know what it weighs, but it is the best handling rifle in the safe.

Did Rem put R3 recoil pads on those, or no?

always thought the shark fin was an useless eye sore. You have a good looking rifle now. The do handle nicely.

Now if Rem would make one in .338Fed or .358 we'd be in busniess and I'd be out $700.

I think you have made a silk purse. Very nice post. What caliber? I have the little screws, just no 673.

Thanks for the pic. I have one that I like a lot but the sharkfin sight is visible through the scope and is an irritant. Think I'll give this a try.

Thanks for all of the info, and the post of the pictures. It looks like I may be buying yet another rifle before hunting season.

sorry- .300 saum.

I wouldn't have thought of taking the rib off on my own. I had never given the 673 a second glance, thinking they were yet another dumb marketing idea from Big Green. An outfitter friend had a client leave a 673 in .350 w/o the rib as a tip. I knew I had to have one as soon as I picked it up. Initial load development w/ 165 hornadys and a stiff charge of varget shows lots of promise, but I've got a bunch of 168 tsx to try too. The 2.5-8 seems to finish the whole thing of nicely.

I forgot they made them in .35Rem mag. I guess there is no need for one in .358 then.

Do they still make them?
