A gun shop about 2 hours from me has 2 used kimber Montanas for a good price. One is a 270 wsm and the other is a 325 wsm.

I really want the 270 but the salesman says that someone has spoken for it but has not paid yet. I cant get there until sat. I am considering the 325 if the 270 is gone on sat.

The biggest concern is recoil. I have not shot many rifles bigger than a 30-06 but I have shot boxes of 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge.

Hows the recoil on the 325?

It ain't bad at all. You'd think it would be worse, but it really is pretty tolerable. The numbers suggest it would be worse, but it doesn't bother me at all.

I have an A-Bolt .325WSM that is a whole lot less punishing than my 3.5 inch 12 gauge.

Based on your rifle shooting experience so far, the 325 WSM shouldn`t be a problem for you at all!

In all honesty Bryant if the 270 is what you really want then I'd hold out for it. If not this one then you'll find another.

I would have to agree,I learned my lesson a long time ago. Get what YOU want and not what we want. Would help if we knew what the rifle was going to be used for ie.deer.elk.moose etc.

The 325 is (IMHO)one of the finest rounds going. I like the range of factory ammo 180's -220's and now there are some premiun 8mm bullets in and around 160 grains if you reload.

When I place my Rem.SPS 325 beside my m77 30/06 the 325 is slightly shorter/smaller/lighter than the 30/06 and will out perform it also.

So if you want a Kimber and the 270 is gone I do not think you would be disappointed with the 325 especially if you like 30/06's and want a bit more oomph with out going to the big magnums.

the 325 will recoil considerably more than the 270, besides, the 270 is what you want. so wait! often times an impulse buy turns to regret. just wait! the gun you really want will show soon enough.

I would wait for the 270WIZZUM of your choice. With a 130gr TTSX it's a flat shooter hard hitting SOB! Maybe even the best WSM?

I will use the gun for elk (hopefully) this year and (hopefully)in the future, But I will likely see much more time with whitetails than with elk

the gun shop still has the 270 on there web page. I hope that means that the have not sold it. I will call tomorrow and find out.

Bryant, get the rifle that you want period.. I have a 270wsm,300wsm, and 325wsm. I hunt with the 325wsm the most from deer size game and up. With the new 160gr TTSX bullets its a very versatile big game rifle.. IMO... Not to big for deer and not to small for elk/moose...IMO...

If you can handle the recoil of 3.5" 12 gauge rounds...I wouldn't worry too much about the 325 wsm

Hey!!! nobody has recommended buying both rifles...what is going on in rifle looney land..LOL

.325 recoil is not bad at all. A little more than a 30-06. A LOT less than a 3.5"
12 gauge!

.325 is a great elk round; at least it sure put a whipping on the two I killed with mine. 1 shot each.

I've fired a .270 WSM, in an A-bolt. It's the same parent case as .325, same amount of powder, with a smaller bullet going faster. Recoil wasn't THAT different.

By the way. Guys talk about how the Montana stock managed recoil, and I agree. That said I have two .325's, (Montana and BLR) and the other one is "fine" in the recoil deptartment also.
