A friend of mine dropped off a Remington 721 chambered in .270 tonight and asked me if I wanted to buy it. He didn't know what it is worth and I don't either. It's showing a lot of blueing loss and the stock needs to be refinished, but it's not cracked or beat up to bad. It's got an older Bushnell sportview scope and weaver rings and bases. I've shot the rifle before and it's a good shooter. It's missing the back sight but has the front sight. I want to be fair to him value wise. I was thinking around $250.00. Does this sound about right.

That's probably close enough for the condition you describe.

$250 to $300 is a fair price. If it is a good shooter, I would try to buy it off him. I have a .30-06 in similar condtion that I gave about $300 for with the same set up and it shoots great. I think all of these shoot great unless they are damaged or worn out like me. The .270 would be more desirable on the market.

Thanks. That's what I thought. The scope and bases and rings will come off. There not worth anything to me. I think this will make a nice rifle for the girlfriend.

Due to the poor stock design of the 721's, that 270 will pound your girlfriend a WHOLE lot. I wouldn't have a girl friend of mine shoot such a hard kicking rifle.
I had one in '06, and it beat me up pretty bad. The 270 is the same case as the '06, so recoil will be about the same as the '06.

I've got a 222, 244, 300 Sav, 270, 30-06, 257 Bob, 358 win (rebored 300 Sav) in the 722-721 series & they're all shooters! Whomever was making those barrels did good! Funny how I've got a shoulder replacement & I don't find the recoil offensive. I pay around $200. Clean them up, bed them, free float the barrel, adjust the trigger to 3 lbs, new scope & rings & end up with a 60 yr old sub MOA rifle. Good luck.

McMillan makes any of its Remington stocks to fit the 721/722 models, but that, of course, will cost twice what the rifle itself is worth. A friend left me his 722 at the end of last season, and I'm considering the McMillan option, as it would be the only cost I'd have involved in the rifle.

I had a remington 721 30-06 that I put hundreds of rounds through and knocked down alot of game with. Recoil was minimal,but I shoot alot of ultra mags and weatherby rounds so the 30-06 feels like a light tap on the shoulder. A 722 257 roberts would be a sweet ladies rifle.

Probably would work well for her with Remington's managed recoil ammo.

I have one in 270. I paid $400.00 for it but then it also came with a 2x7 Leopold scope. I think $250.00 for that price is a win win for both of you. Mine has a 24 inch barrel and weighs a hair over seven pounds. No issues with it kicking at all.
