tryed working on my budys 300 weatherby this last 2 days make all kinds loads had one shot a inch group at 100 yards. then never could agin. nothing shoot good outa it any ideas??? ever grain .5 grain seems to shoot just under 2 inch no mater what even tryed berger bullets
168 TSXs shoot well in mine with a moderate load of R-22. Mine's a Vanguard.
ive tryed 150 nosler btips horndy interlocks bergers and cople others in 165 and 168 nothin shoot good so far. lookin for other powders. idk i think the gun just dosnt shoot good how many grains u use i forund 82.5 to shoot the best with 168grainer
Yup, that's what I use, 82.5 R-22 and a 168.
Mine prefers 7828 and 180s of any flavor. I've gotten very good results with the 168 TSX and RL19, IMR4831 and IMR4350. It's a Mark V and not very picky.
I had a Vanguard and 7828 and 4350 with 18os were the go to, it shot the Wby 180 factory load sub moa with boring regularity.
What's the rifle?
try 7828 and 200 gr accubonds...
Have no idea what make and model ones rifle might be, but the first thing I do with my Weatherby's is float the barrel.
its weatherby vanguard ya hes goign to float the barle and bed ation. i mostly used 7828 hes wanting to stay with liter bullets anit my gun trying to help a budy out
ya im goan try and find some fatory load i had for my 300. try them out see what they do in it. nothing has shot great ever bullet pretty much shoot 1.5 to 2 inch group
English man! I need subtitles.
If a 180 Hornady flat base and either 82 grains of H4831 or 84-85 grains of IMR7828 doesn't do an inch, there's something wrong with the rifle.
84 grains in 180 grainer?? anit that way over max load
i know 82 grains is max of 168 grainer
I'd look more at the gun/sights and far less at the powder. Bullets, perhaps more so than powder.
Some cheaper guns foul very bad at the throat and sometimes barrel heat and going from one bullet to another hurts the odds....
Hawk has a point. Copper fouling is not a friend for accuracy.
I do with my Weatherby's is float the barrel.
+1
If your gun shoots 2" groups with several loads it needs to have the barrel floated and receiver bedded, otherwise you will never know the accuracy potential.
IMHO chasing load experiments at this point with that rifle is like chasing rainbos.
mine like h4831 and 150gr interlock and 180gr balistic tip with rl22
Mine does very well with rem coreloc 180 believe it or not... very well. But it does even better with fact loads from hornady. 180 gr interlocks.
Rifle is M70 classic, floated barrel with action bed in fact walnut stock.
I can't help you with a hand load & heck this probably don't help you either but this same rifle will throw Fed premium 180 partitions out to a group the size of a pie plate at 100yds.
I stopped looking for improvement after trying these cheap 180 gr interlocks.
ya gun barrle is clen. ya im floating and beddign it any one have any good pics or video for me. i did one but im no exspert on it
Dave,
That is good shooting. One thing to consider is that most guys can't shoot groups that small with a 300 Weatherby even if the rifle and ammo are up to it.

Exactly the same with my ..300 Wby Vanguard!
My Wby. MkV likes 85 gr. of RL22 and 165 gr. Barnes TSX bullets, for 1" groups.
my buddy shot today 82,5 grains of 7828 with 168 berger 3 bullets in same hole in half in low. thats good anuff id say. still wanting to float barle and bed ation

I love that rifle. I've flattened mostly elk with it but I have to confess, I've used the finger of god for a few white tail too.
Overkill?
I guess it does tend to "overpenetrate on deer" LMAO!!!
Seriously though, I'm so comfortable & confident with that rifle. I was shopping for a 338 when I found that one NIB on accident... no regrets!
I'm serious about fed premium 180 NP's though... Pie plate at best.
It really does prove that whole deal with "the right load for the right barrel."
Finally worked up an elk load for my Japanese 26" Mark V. Wound up working up to 84 gr RL22 at 3.58, Fed 215GM and went into 1/2" with 168 gr TTSX.
Elk are going to hate seeing this one in NM in Oct.
Trying factory loads is a good idea. My .257 will shoot just as good or better with factory loads than any of my handloads that I have tried. Have to hock something like my Jeep to buy a box though.

84.5 gr Imr 7828 with 180's has proved 1/2 moa in 5 different rifles. THe sixth preffered 83.5 grains.
.300 Weatherbys won't shoot worth a crap:

Or so some would believe. Mine shoots 1/2 moa with three. That is amazing accuracy you've got there.
Mine only took 400 rounds to "come in". But once I hit that magic combination it was celebration from there.
Like you, 7828 was THE powder with 180 gr. bullets in my rifle, a Sako 75.
I agree 7828 is thee powder for the 300 Wby. 200 grain Accubonds where my ultimate load but have recently moved on up to Berger 210's.
