That bullet should SMOKE. 3150-3200+ should be easy.

On my last range trip, I shot 44.5gr of '15 behind a 120 TTSX and only averaged 2860fps. I haven't been out since. No moly, 59 degrees, Rem 700 Mtn LSS, 22" factory barrel.

Calvin ran QL for me, and I have room for another grain or so, but I just haven't done it yet.

I Shot alot of the 120's Over Varget. With a 20" Lilja.I was Getting 2991FPS and no pressure Signs.. I Killed Lots of Thing with it..

I have pushede the 120 right through the thoracic cavity of a Bull ELk and a couple of Afican plains game critters, if I was hunting deer with a 7/08 the 110 would be my pick. No reason to go heavier than that unless Elk were on the agenda.

CT, thanks, don't get to that section enough. I had two 700s chopped to 21", and a couple of M70s in past. The Rems I clocked at 3050-3100 w/120 Hornady SP/Hp/VMax; Noz/Sierras, all using a stiff load of Varget in partial sized cases.

I'd guess that 110 is about the length of a 130 to 140 lead core bullet. Guessing penetration would be really good given the all copper.

I am thinking real serious about trimming this one back from 24" to 21".

CT, if you feel the balance will suit you, they handle quickly. If you are not confined i.e. just to blind hunting in tight spaces and might shoot further, I'd chop at 22 or 22.5 if a std sporter contour. I had a 21" 7BR on an M7 and at .700 OD at muzzle, if felt perfect in it's deluxe wood stock. I had heft in the barrel for steadiness and heat control at the range, yet not muzzle heavy, more neutral.

The one 21" 700 was a Varmint BDL in a VLS stock, that gun felt/handled great in my hands, a few ounces saved, but shifting the balance point, got rid of a previous clumsy nose heavy rifle. They are a tad louder no doubt.

If I build another, and I can foresee a time in the future I may, then it will be likely 23", as much for blast and speed. A 21 will shoot fine though, but I'd opt for more than 18.5/20" they used on M7s, the round is not as high on expansion ration as say a 338 Fed, 358/350 would be so I like a tad more on small bores.

These are MY preferences but each has to decide what's best for them. I never regretted chopping my V down to 21, would do another every day of the week, my BDL/SS felt nice w/HS Sporter stock, but Full length Al bed block was a tad hefty, though it handled fine. If cutting another BDL/SS like that, it would be 22 or 22.5 for me, and a LIGHT MCM stock, or similar. THEN you'd have a faster handling gun yet, than the way my BDL was stocked.

BTW, I do believe the slighty shorter stiffer bbls enhanced accuracy/groups, but when you add a proper crown 11 degree, you cannot discount it's possible enhancements alone. It may be slight, but there.

I used to have a 7/08 Mountain Rifle with a 21 inch tube. I liked the way it handled. I bought it used, and the previous owner had sent it off for a port job. Made it louder than a 2.5 inch .357 magnum. I had it whacked off behind the port and hunted happily ever after with it.

My wife now hunts with an SPS youth in .243 with a 20 inch tube. I like it very well too, but I am thinking I could be ok with an extra inch of barrel with the same contour.

My present 7/08 is a stainless SPS, so to trim it back to 21, I am thinking would make it just about perfect.

Agreed on the enhancement of a good crown. It can't help but improve the situation to some degree.

I never liked ports myself, long or 'hand' guns.

Many shooters use rifles as they come, but I have been 'forced' to deal w/cumbersome rifles in the past, and never regretted it. If something is 'bugging you' to fix it, you won't be happy until you do.

They claim 3261 with 49.5 RL15 for the 110gr

41.9 grs. of TAC is pusing the 120 gr. TTSX's right at 3000 fps. in my '08.

that's the only bullet i've ever fed my 7mm-08

It leaves little to the imagination and it'd be tough to find enough Tags to slow one down..............

I have a 700 MtnLSS in 7/08. The only deer I left in the woods was shot with a 120gr Nosler. I went back to the old 139gr Hornagy and put deer down almost in their tracks. I did have the barrel cut back to 20" and would like to have the gun Teflon coated to minimize shine till then black tape works well enough and fits my wallet better.

The question was about Barnes TTSX bullets. A 120 Nosler is not in the same class. A 120 Barnes will open up then blow right through Elk for sure, and some have used it even on Alaskan Moose.
