The guys in the know at Ruger Forum say they will be cataloging the 9.3x62 in the Hawkeye African (23" with sights) next year.
Pete
That guy on the Ruger Forum, Who he know from Ruger to get this info?
Okay, I called my source in NH and did confirm that the matte Hawkeye finish is gone with a switch to a polished finish in both blue and in stainless models. Not a single person within that department had knowledge of the model changes. Was told that SOP was to keep that info close to the chest until the public release of the production catalog. He said that was due out in December.
I would still like to know if the m77 9.3x62 was verified.
Thanks!
I asked for it on my S.H.O.T. show wish list last year....
Asked about it in person at the Phoenix NRA show too. They said it wasn't the first time they had heard that, and they at least one writer had mentioned a desire for it too.
I would absolutely buy one.
So, Ruger is going back to the old finish, is that correct? I guess my 10 or so messages to the CEO might have actually made it to someone who would listen. OK, maybe me and a bunch of others too.
I guess I will start looking at NEW Rugers after the first of the year.
My source in NH told me that the switch to the polished finish was already made with the rifles in production.
Why the hell would anyone want a polished hunting rifle?
second thread on the subject...
Hmm damn copy cats!
I prefer polished blued. I wouldn't want polished stainless.
Seen a 350 RM in a 77 SS that was fine bead blasted after the owner took it home, looked nice, that's what I would want.
Distinctly recall seeing a glint/glare coming off a rifle FAR FAR off on another mountain side in Colorado years ago. I first saw the glint a few times before ever seeing the hunter, and finally picked him up in my bino's. That was probably a half mile to mile. Had it not been for the glare, I would never have known he was there.
It always stuck in my mind how a polished rifle can alert game after seeing that happen.
i wonder if it really does.....the reason being if i sit and glass for a few hours ill see all kinds of things flashing where i hunt....mica, quartz, farm machinery and the like....
Hmmm... Add this to the 3x that MIGHT be coming from Leupold's custom shop next year and you'd have yourself a pretty interesting setup.
Okie John
So, does anyone have an inside source to confirm from Ruger the 9.3x62? Or do we just need to wait until the production catalog is released at years end.
That guy on the Ruger Forum, Who he know from Ruger to get this info?
My original post says "guys" meaning this comes from more than one source. I can't tell you how, but I can confirm it.
If you don't want to believe it, I understand. There's a lot "false truth" on the internet.
Pete
Thanks for the reply, I couldn't find the original source in all the posts other than many people repeating the same rumor. I did see where one guy posted as if he was an insider himself and was releasing the info, but when I read his additional posts, it was clear he was not. I was just asking if any of you guys discussing these changes know the source from Ruger where this info came? I was getting ready to make a time sensitive rifle change in the immediate future, but if I had some confidence that this 9.3x62 was confimed, I'll change directions and hold off. I was definitely able to comfirm the polished blue aspect through my inside Ruger source, but my connection cannot confirm the other.
Thanks!
+1 to that in your country. I haven't noticed it much in the mtns however.

and that very well could be it....out here the deer might ignore it....somewhere else it might be neon light flashing and get their attention....
GaryVA - the 9.3mm 'should' be a sure bet... how do I know you ask? Easy, I've been bugging Mike Fifer at Ruger for the .416 on the "African" platform for months now. This rifle fits me like a glove...so as much as I'd like it Ruger is sure to release the 9.3mm instead. Scientific Wild Azz Guess. Luck 'O the Irish at work here. Regards, Homesteader.
LOL
I need to act or get off the pot on something else, don't think I can drag it out till next month. I'd cancel and direct those resources to that M77 9.3x62, but I'd like to hear from someone who has the scoop from a good Ruger source before I did. Hopefully one of you guys has the details to know if this is a sure thing. I'll try and hold off a few days and ask around somemore.
Thanks:)

Homesteader, At SHOT '09 I asked when the 416 Ruger would appear in the African configuration. A senior member of the engineering team said, "As soon as we find a suitable solution to the stock splitting problem".
Seems they built at least one and rather quickly had some black walnut firewood.
I'd have thought it would be out by now, but then, it's not the only thing they have to work on.

I did confirm a MFG ID# for a new production African 9.3X62 Hawkeye. The distributors appear to be the source of this info as they are gearing up to take orders.
Thanks everyone for the help!
I just checked their website. How long have they offered the hawkeye african in 300 and 338 win mag? Cant believe I missed that one!

............Those have been on the Ruger site for a number of months now.

Yep, Lipseys is showing it, 23" barrel.
MFG Model No:37113

A few years ago I had a Ruger #1B rebored to 9.3x62 and custom stocked to my specs. It is a solid shooter with a lively but easily manageable recoil.
Wonder why the 77s would be prone to stock-splitting? A .3378 mag surely generates more serious and rapid recoil than that round.

RUMlover - noticed both calibers, besides the .375 Ruger, listed about 4 months ago. Regards, Homesteader.
SavutiOneShot - Heard that excuse for about a year now... Have to wonder if Ruger makes the "African" stock from BALSA wood if they continue to have stock splitting issues, at this point. Regards, homesteader.
Hey that is nice. Now we need a thread comparing the 9.3x62 and the 375 H&H.
Nice. It's a credit to Ruger that they have been willing to chamber their rifles for a number of cartridges that aren't tiresomely ordinary.
OldRooster - the 9.3mm is another one of those African calibers that invoke really great nostalgia. However, unlike the .375 H&H, the 9.3mm whispers will have a definite Germanic lilt to them. You'll still hear the distant African drumbeat in camp BUT instead of a gin & tonic you'll have a frosty Pilsner bier by your pith helmet. Homesteader.
Interesting that despite comments in posts earlier this year it looks like they're sticking with the satin finish. Hooray! Now, I just have to find the money somewhere to snag one.
Sure wish they would do the 9.3X62 in a lefty....
Now it is a Lipseys exclusive or a Ruger catalog offering?
GaryVA - did I call that or what. The world gets the 9.3mm African while I get no reponse from Ruger. Woe on me... LOL Homesteader.

Catalog item.
