I was surfing Accurate Reloading and came across a thread with a catastrophic failure of a Sako rifle.

http://www.accuratereloading.com/ubbthre...=21&fpart=1

It is in the gunsmithing section. I have never seen such damage and thought that some of you would find it interesting.

Regards,
Gregor

Sako has recalled certain serial numbers of all their stainless
rifles .

I did not read the whole thread but hope the guy is ok. From the looks of the rifles it could not have been to good.

There have been a few posts going on about this at AR and Benchrest.com that I`m aware of. The blow ups include rifles of both Sako and Tikka brands and have been reported in Sweden, Canada and the US from what I`m led to believe. The stainless steel used in their barrels has been named as the problem and is supposedly of high sulpher content that got past their QC. The CM barrels are not suspect!
Berreta has been accused of not giveing any info (serial # ranges) or posting any warnings on the problem and, according to some, is trying to keep it hush-hush.

Yes, supposedly a small amount of Tikka and Sako stainless rifles purchased in 2004 were effected. I purchased a Finnlite in June and I called....it was not effected. There was a number posted here for people to call and it only takes a few minutes to find out about your rifle. Sorry I don't have the number anymore....

I just spoke with Beretta on this issue (800-636-3420). After going through an obnoxious voicemail tree and waiting 20 min on hold, I finally got through. They claim that it is a very small number of rifles that are affected, and would not get any more specific than that. My 75 Hunter Stainless purchased in early '04 was ok (sn 986xxx). About 20 rounds though it and no problems....nice gun. FYI
