Thinking bout cutting the barrel back on a Remington 7600 243.
curious about somethings though.
First is the accuracy, this rifle shoots about an inch for three shots at a hundred yards with the Barnes Vortex Factory 80 Grain TTSX ammo that I use and I sure would hate to mess up the accuracy of the rifle so would it hurt it to shorten the barrel?
Next is Velocity loss,I am figuring a 2 inch reduction would give me about a 70 FPS loss or so and a three inch reduction would be a hundred FPS loss or so .Bout right ?
Bout how much weight Loss per inch of barrel for the 7600 243 barrel contour?
And finally for those of you that have a shorter barrel 760 or 7600 do you like the ballance of the rifle better than the standard 22 inch barrel?

I've cut all of my 7600's by two inches without suffering any loss of accuracy. They just balance better @ 20"s. Make sure you get a good crown.

All my 760 barrels are 20" now !
I've never cut a barrel back on a 7600. However, my main go to hunting rifle/carbine in my 7600 Carbine (18.5" barrel) 30-06 Spr. I absolutely love it. I put a Leupold VX-II 2-7x33mm Scope on it. It shoots 1 1/4" groups at 100 yards with 165 gr. Fusion ammo with my bad back. I think the groups might get a little better as my back does. It handles and carries great in just about every hunting situation. I can't compare it to a 7600 rifle because I've never used one. The Carbine is great though!

NYH1! wink

I had a couple of of my 7600's cut down. Velocity loss was hardly noticeable but accuracy seemed to improve. It seems the shorter, stiffer bbl helped.

Balance is much better as is maneuvering in a tree stand or box blind.
