Just wondering what can you expect from the sps stainless how is the quality of the stainless? I am remington fan but i just don't know if I should drop another $200 and get a cdl
I have a SPS stainless in 7mm RUM and have no problems with it I kind of like the rough finish but I also have 2 XCR's and prefer the black look of them I am thinking of getting a model 700 CDL SF in 7mm Rem. mag or 30-06 just like the looks of the CDL stocks
I defiantly don't care for the stock on the sps
Got two of them...truly excellent shooters, but in all fairness I couldnt stand the stocks, so upgraded them, and I took the Xmark pro triggers off and threw them out...went with old standard remington triggers

Aren't those the triggers that cause premature discharge?
Dooooood! shocked
ingwe discharges prematurely anyway, might as well have a nice trigger lol
and before you tell me to smoke a turd in hell, my standard answer applies...

...as long as you bite the end off and get it lit first lol

I have owned several and they all have have been very accurate right out of the box, fit and finish have also been good but I am not a fan of the rough finish, I have noticed that the early SPS stainless models had a little rougher finish than the latest rifles out of Remington.....For the money these rifles are mighty hard to beat, and I do like the new triggers very much and feel no need to change........Good luck.........Hb
98% of my guns are Remington. I own a M700 SS 260 and that finish is great. I owned a M700 SPS SS 270 WSM. With the SPS I had to be careful with it. If you didn't wipe it down after handling it it would develope rust where your hand touched it. If I kept it well oiled it wasn't a problem. Others I know haven't had a problem with the SPS SS finish. So maybe I just had a bad finish on mine.
I think it has to do with the dull finish. The coarse bead blast job on the SPS SS line of rifles attracts moisture. My Kimber is stainless and has shown rust when carried with no oil and lots of contact with my skin.
I agree Dan, I think it's the rough finish that tends to hold moisture..............Hb
The rough finish has never caused me any problems.
I wonder if some 0000 steel wool might smooth up this finish? or would it just [bleep] it up?..............Hb

I would stick with the former. Great rifles that SPS stainless & so well priced!

They're also allot lighter than advertised.
SS SPS .257WM, trigger worked to 2.75, accurate and no complaints. As Melvin24 said, lighter than advertised.

I'm not a metallurgist, but rubbing a stainless rifle down with a non-stainless metal could cause carbon contamination, and eventually rust.

Probably better off with a bead blast to smooth it out...
