Finished up my mauser in 257 Roberts. Took it out and shot it today. What a joy. I had never shot a 257 Roberts before and I was sure surprised at how light the recoil was. It's the mauser that my dad gave me when I was 12 years old. It's a model 93 and was in original military shape chambered in 7x57. But the barrel was bad and so was the stock so I decided to give it a facelift. Thanks for looking. I just needed to show it to somebody. Brant

OUTSTANDING

This was a Mauser 93 so I new I needed to really watch what I chambered this in and figured since I reload the 257 Roberts would be the ideal choice. I didn't want to get to carried away on this dollar wise and wanted something that I wouldn't worry about using and scatching. I started with an A&B F14 21 inch barrel with a 1 in 10 twist. I nstalled an American Rifle works FN style bolt shroud with an adjustable Bold trigger with side safety. I picked up a used B&C medalist stock with the full length bedding block. That took a lot of work to make this fit.
It was one of the stocks that they camo dipped and then put a non slip coating over the top. I had it D&T and put a 1 piece Leupold scope base with a set of Redfield Rings and a Leupold 2-7X33 Vari-Xll scope. It weighs just a touch over 8 1/4 pounds. I wound up putting more into it than I wanted. The total investment was about $800.00. That included the barrel install, bluing etc. Here are a few more pics.

That turned out really well, how does she shoot?

I haven't started any load development yet. Just loaded up a handful of 100 grain gamekings and went out and got it on paper cleaning the barrel between shots. Probably won't get out and see what she will do until after hunting season.

I have a fancy for the x57 case. I am totally a fan and love the in-between x57, I want a hunting rifle in all the x57 forms. I have several, 9.3, 8, 7, and 6.5. I still need the lower end of the spectrum, .257-.224. the bob, the 6mm Remington and the 224 Texas trophy( I think that is the name). I had a chance to get a bob, in a ruger a few years ago, but I want to do them all on mauser actions. Im a gun nut no idea why that is a must, but there u go, I don't need a reason. imo the 6.5 and the bob are the idea deer cartridges, I know with super bullets u can do it with a 224 and a 6mm, but for the size of the American white tail there is no actual bad choice. but those two to me scream perfection. Wow man that looks great! My Czech 98 in 257 AI used an F34 contour A&b and shoots lights out! A bit heavy, however, and I've always wondered how the 14 contour would differ accuracy-wise.

The Bob is a joy to shoot isn't it? I built one for my 10 yo son this past August and he LOVES it even with a lighter overall weight than my AI. I am downloading 117s w/ RL15 but he doesn't need the reduction.

Good luck! I highly recommend a 4350 & 100 gr Interlocks! Their kill far outweighs their size!

What's next.....Trying to finish up a 6.5X55 M94 Swede that dad got back in the 40's. He started to sporterize it but never finished. Got it almost done. And a 1909 Argentine that was his also that I've been tinkering with.
