Local store has a used but exec condition Remmy Mod 7 in 7mm SAUM. It's stainless with a black plastic stock. The stock is not a tupperware, so I'm not sure if it's an upgrade or what (It has a hard shell similar the mickey's and Brown stocks I've seen). Anyway, they want something around $560, if I remember.

Was wondering what, if any, experiences some have had with this cartridge in this platform. Needs a bolt shroud as it has a lock on it. I have a mod 7 in 250 Sav, so am familar with the rifle itself.

Tom
Its ballistically similar to the 280 AI and will readily kill everything in north america. Very efficient case , starting to become very popular with the long range crowd because of such. Some say barrel life is better than most of the other high power 7's. Brass is readily available at the moment from remington, it needs to be weight sorted but is pretty good . You could also neck down 300 saum brass from Lapua. It would make an awesome LW elk gun in your neck of the woods loaded with 140 gr TTSX's. I have a shroud if you need one and the price he is asking is good I'd snatch it at that price if I didn't have one already on a 700 platform.
I've got one, shoots all right. smirk

I'll bet you a beer the stock is OEM.. it's a heavy pos.

I dropped mine in a mcedge, gretan shroud and pin, trimmed some metal here and there, and it tips the scale at 7 lbs even with scope, sling, and a full belly.

Its a great little gun.
I'd buy it at $525 (remind them its a dead cartridge.. grin ) and drop the factory stock on eBay.. some idiot will buy it for 80 bucks, maybe more.

Order a mcedge, and by the time it arrives, you might be able to get brass for it. It's pretty scarce right now.. some wing nuts around here seem to be buying every scrap of it right now, for some hare brained reason.. smirk

I followed RL's lead on this, but went with the AWR stock. This is the perfect balance of weight, recoil and accuracy IMO. Here's my load work up, 162 Amax on top, 120 BT on bottom. 162's at 2900+, 120's at 3400+

BTaylor, are those Amaxes at mag length?
I like the rifle. I already have a 7/08, 280 and 7mmRM in the safe, so am wondering why I think I need another 7mm cartridge to play with. Altho my 280 is a bit heavy and I do have 400 Sierra 160gr Game Kings in the cabinet....

Yes...OAL 2.822
Had two, one Model 7 and Brown Pounder stock, the other a SA 700 that I sold. The Model 7 will be one of the last ones out the door. Same velocities as my 280AI and it shoots lights out. Had Karl flute the barrel and bolt and then aluminum oxide blast the metal. It's light and mucho accurate.

That is one serious looking rifle. Vedy niceeee.
Indeed. Both of those rifles are very nice.
I love mine! They were discontinuing the Laminated Stainless model when I bought mine about 5 years ago. Bought a box of Federal Premium Factory Ammo that's loaded with 160gr Partitions to sight it in when I bought it. Very first group put 5 shots in 3/4" right out of the box!!! My handloads will shoot 5-shot 1/2" groups all day long @ 100 yards.
Would be one of my last rifles I would ever sell.
I've shot several big feral hogs here at the ranch with it at 350 yards in our wheat field. Drops them like a hammer!

You DO NOT need it at all. Dead cart, too heavy, redundant, etc. Save your money.

Please send dealers contact info to me via PM immediately.

Seriously, snag that baby quick. I love mine and with 160 Nosler PTs it is awesome.

If you decide to not get it I would appreciate the contact info. Thanks
I love the 7mm's myself and have two 7-08's and a 280 rem. The 7mm saum has my interest though more so then the wsm version. The Model 7's are tougher to find and the price is right. I agree with the above, trip the oem stock and drop into a mcedge or other lighter stock and have some fun.
I have the same SS model and it also shoots lights out like so many here...hmmm.. easily the best shooting Short mag I've ever owned

.039 groups with 150 noslers and H4831SC

close to the same with 160s
Who woulda guessed there's so many Black Mac's floating around?

That is a magic formula..
I've got to try and sneak out of work tomorrow and look at this rifle again....
I have a Rem. AWR in 7mm SAUM with a 2.5-10x42 Leica on it. I'm running a 150gr. E-Tip at 2,900 fps and it delivers sub MOA out to 300 yards (*that's the limit of my range...).

The SAUM is not quite the same as the RemMag by about 100fps. I'm pretty sure that any critter that cares won't feel the difference.

The main reason I bought it actually had little to do with the caliber. I wanted a durable, rust"proof" rifle that I didn't need to baby. The AWR is what fit the bill, the caliber was optional. Truth be told, I really wanted a 308 or 7-08, regardless, I'm certainly not disappointed.
I've been a confirmed Model Seven addict since they started making them and was a 600/660 addict before that... I never saw a reason a rifle should be longer or heavier.

The 7mmSAUM is simply the best whitetail through elk cartridge I've ever encountered and if you pair it with Varget and 140gr AccuBonds it's simply a killing machine out to crazy distances if you can do your part... smile
i have one and it's fantastic. i just don't use the "magnum" capabilities really. a 7-08 will do everything i use the 7SAUM for, so i'll be offloading it when i get home.

that said, it's a fantastic gun that shoots really well with just about anything I put in the chamber. i'm just gonna settle down and burn a little less powder, have a little less recoil when i shoot is all. smile
You could always use the 7-08 to drive 120's at roughly the same speeds the SAUM pushes 154-160's. (grin)

I like my little M7 in the 284 short-fat ultra. It's a used SS model that I put in a M7 CDL takeoff stock from a .350RM model. The original plan was to run 120 TTSX's at 3,300fps+, but it showed a real preference for the 160 Accubond. My dad has just put together two M7's in the same chambering, a blued/laminated model and an SS model in a 673 laminate take-off. We'll be loading both with necked-down 300SAUM brass. He wants to compare the 120TTSX in one gun with the 160AB in the other. Always something to tinker with.....

Nice rig, but that scope looks like a fedora on a midget. I really like that particular McM stock.
No body cares what you think Andrew.
150 NBT's at 400 meters.. grin

One-uppin' prick.

laugh
Thanks for the feedback. The rifle is still sitting on the shelf at the store. I guess the lack of ammo has scared buyers off, as there isn't one 7mm SAUM cartridge in the store. On the other hand, there were many boxed of 7mm Rem Mag ammo on the shelf.

So I still need to decide if I want to double up (already have a 7mmRM in my safe). Decisions, decisions....
Do them a favor an take it off their rack. Its the least you can do..
What's the shops number? laugh

Dibs!

Love that rifle my friend -
Quit being a stubborn [bleep] and buy it!!! You'll get your money back out of it if you decide to sell it. Throw it in a CDL takeoff or a BC and have a cheap beater7 short and fat....
I'm a stubborn [bleep] for not buying a rifle that I don't think is even for sale?

I'm missing something obviously...
LOL....that was intended for the OP.

PS- youre a stubborn [bleep] too laugh
Damn... I thought I was talking to some rifle loonies and ended up talking to a pack of stubborn [bleep]... LOL

I have two Model Seven SS Magnums. One is in 7mmSAUM and the other in 300SAUM and they both wear my favorite stock of all time... The Model Seven Alaska Wilderness Stock as manufactured by McMillan for Remington... smile

They're both lights out shooters and they're gonna be passed down to my nephew and brother when I quit breathin' so don't even bother to ask... LOL
