Has anyone seen or used data for this combination yet? A friend just showed up to load some 308 and the only suitable powder that could work. The bullets are 165gr Barnes TSX's.

THANKS in advance!
I am confused reading your post. Is Superperformance (HSP) the only powder you had available ? There are dozens of "suitable" powders that will work fine in a 308.

Commercially available HSP is quite slow and I have found you can exceed 4831 velocities in slightly overbore cases like the 25-06. I get 4000 fps with an 80 gr TTSX in the 25-06 (30" bbl)

Hodgdon says:" Superformance delivers striking velocities in cartridges like the 22-250 Remington, 243 Winchester and 300 Winchester Short Magnum. Velocities well in excess of 100 fps over the best published handloads and even larger gains over factory ammunition! Because this propellant is tailored for specific applications, the number of cartridges and bullets is limited, but where it works, it really works! "

I'd guess it is too slow for a 308 as Hodgdon lists no 308 loads for it on their website, nor does Barnes. Even with a 220 gr solid, Barnes get the best with BL C-2 which is far faster than HSP.

Hard to beat 748 and 760 in a 308 with 150-165 gr bullets and they both meter +- 1/10 gr

good luck !
Hornady offers factory loaded Superfromance 308 ammo, but I can find no load data for it.

FWIW I tried some factory Superformance ammo in 308 and 30-06. Their 308 is ammo is listed @ 3000 fps with 150 gr SST's. They chronographed 2925 fps in my gun with acceptable accuracy. That is 40-50 fps better than I can get from my 22" guns with Varget or RL15, but my handloads are a little more accurate.

The 165 gr SST's I tried in 30-06 gave poor accuracy, and were no faster than I can do with 4350. At least in my guns.

Superperformance is about the same burn rate as 4831, according to Hodgdon, which is probably too slow for the .308
I have not used Superformance ammo or powder. I bought 20 boxes of Light Magnum (the predecessor) .30-06 loaded with 180 Interlocks a good many years ago. I still have a few. The LM is rated at 2880. My pet '06 has a 24 inch barrel and my friends chronograph shows just over 2900. Accuracy is not the magic number but it does between 1 1/8 - 1 1/4 when I do my part. This is plenty good deer/coyote hunting accuracy.

When the stock is gone, I will try the Superformance load with a little lighter Interbond. Either that or load for the rifle again. Jack
+1 on Varget -- assuming you could find some, which you can't.
