I have been on the lookout for a left hand stainless bolt gun in a standard cal for quite a while. Most of my lefties are blued action Rem 700's with KS stocks and stainless barrels. I do have a 300 Win Mag 700 in all stainless. You know us rifle loonies, want exceeds need...

Anyhow I recently picked up a mint used Tikka T3 SS with Leupold bases and rings in 270 Win, (yea I know some of you think it is gay...), off Gunbroker for $475. Seemed like a good deal and I could always get my money out of it iffin I did not like it.

Well let me tell ya, after mounting a 3x9 Bushnell Elite with rain guard on it and getting her dialed in, WOW!! Shoots everything I fed it into little clusters. Easily shoots damn near as good as my Hart barreled tuned 700's. There are a couple of items I am not crazy about but I think it will be a keeper!

be careful you will soon get mad at spending all that money on customs. If beretta did't own the company they would be a much larger force in the gun arena. I have never seen a published review on a tikka rifle, where they post the average group sizes with a variety of ammo. I bet tikka wins out when its random ammo

I've owned several customs and none of them can hang with my Tikka. Hate to admit it, but it is the truth. Great guns!

Read this one in Rifle Shooter mag a while back, by Wayne van Zwoll...

http://www.rifleshootermag.com/2011/11/04/review-tikka-t3-lite/

Quote
Ive several Tikkas, and all but a .270 WSM printed groups inside a minute of angle. The T3 Lite I tested for this article shot 140-grain Winchester AccuBonds into a 0.4-inch group, and with four of five additional loads I got 0.7-inch groupsand all loads shot well inside the 11/2-inch standard I impose on bolt-action hunting rifles. Indeed, the average best-group measure for this T3 was just half that.

One can spend double the dough or more, and only hope it shoots this good. Helluva bang for the buck.

may as well use all of the action length and get a 270...or, get a 7-08, have it reamed to 280AI and pickup a 270/30-06 mag and shorten the bolt stop.

OR JUST SHOOT IT AS A 7MM-08 AND SAVE YOUR MONEY

Since buck season is over I cleaned the new Tikka today. Again I was very impressed. Cleaning the barrel was very easy, a few patches with my favorite bore cleaner and it was done, again very comparable to the custom Hart barrels I have. By comparison a stock Rem barrel usually takes about 15 patches to achieve the same.

At this point, should I buy another rifle that I was not going to rebarrel, I believe I would take the Tikka over a Remington even if they were the same price!

You guys are killing me so tempting me to that 7mm-08 ss

See that I got a Christmas present early a Super Light 300 Stainless Fluted, I really am starting to like these Tikka's. Gonna have to wait till after Christmas to shoot this one! If it shoots like the last one I'm gonna be thinking really hard on selling something off and buying another!

Being a lefty, the T3 offers one of the best deals for a variety of hunting calibers.

I'm a hard core Blaser fanatic, however the only other bolt guns I own are T3s.

308, 260 and a custom 300 Blackout are in my safe now.

Extremely accurate and very light weight.

Great rifles, but very addicting. There are more and more options available for add on components that make for very easy self made customs.

Money just becomes WAY too easy to spend on them.

My T3 6.5 Swede will stay in the herd until I can't shoot anymore. And I have a few "off brands" as well to compare. laugh

I have a Tikka in a 25-06 and just love it. I mounted a scope on it when I first got it and when I took it to the range to sight it in, the first 3 shots were touching. They were an inch high and an inch to the left. Four clicks to the right and I have never had to touch it again. I have shot many deer at various distances and it has performed perfectly. I have Weatherbys and Styers that I have paid double of what I paid for that Tikka and they can't touch it. Great gun. Who cares about the plastic. I just shoots lights out.

I've owned several T3 SS rifles in various calibers. If people can get over the "plastic" they are one of the most accurate out of the box rifles made.

All of mine shot well under 1" groups, most 1/2 of that with handloads.

I own several Tikka rifles, White Tail Hunters and T3's and they are all extremely accurate. Like ChiefPilot above, I'm a Blaser fanatic but the rest of my safe is taken up by the Tikka brand.
Lots of aftermarket stocks available so don't let the plastic ones that come with the T3 get you down.

This thread needs pictures.

Guy I know in the industry can afford anything and has many rigs. Told me recently all he fools with anymore for hunting is a battery of T3s.

So I got a yen going for one. If they made the Lite SS in .260 I'd be ordering it today along w 3 of those red based 6-shot mags so it'd match my Gen2 G19. Would prolly set it up just like Mackay has his bobbed .308.

Anybody know who stocks Tikka in Middle Tennessee?

Outpost in Murfreesboro. The owner is a Tikka fan.

Well I was so pleased with the 270, thought I might try a 243. So today I won a bid on Gunbroker for one. I will post the results after I bust some primers with it.
