Wife: You sleep in garage.
Killed this 190+ class buck a couple of year ago with the 150BT running 3200 out of my HCR 7mag. 140 yard shot, entered right hip and was found under hide on the front left shoulder, a full 3 feet of penetration. I had a pic around here somewhere but can't find it. Impressive performance.

WOW! Where did you kill that buck?
Buck was killed in the sandhills of West Texas. Dober is the one who turned me on to the 150BT's.
Thank you JG. smile

150 Winchester BT's out of my 7 Mag on whitetails...can only be described as reaching out and touching them with a lightening rod. They don't go far. Never shot em with the NAB's.
I saw a small doe shot w/a 7mag , 150nbt at 75yds , quartering to us.
Somehow it basically bloodshot and blasted more-less all the meat.
Made a small amount of jerky out of it that's all.
While cutting the deer up I was astounded at the damage that combo had done.
This was around year 2001.
I've killed 1 elk, several mule deer and 1 antelope with the 160 Nosler Partition (Federal Premium factory load). The elk was quartering away, bullet went in behind the left shoulder and came out the brisket, the exit hole was the size of a tennis ball, he ran 40 yards and died, blood all over, shot was 175 yards. The others were DRT.
I shot a small whitetail with the 150 BT and a magnum 7. I will not be doing that again.
For years my favorite bullet out of my 7x57 was and still is the 150 gr. Ballistic Tip. Started around 2600fps it works perfectly and always exits. The only time it gave a lot of meat destruction was when it hit bone. This on deer, feral hogs, raccoons, coyotes and one elk.
I used to shoot the 150NBT from a 24" 7mmRM, but these were old-stock bullets from the red and green 100ct boxes. They were fairly soft, but stuff died. They were hell on lungs.

These days, my father and I both shoot the 160AB from our 22" 7mmSAUM rifles at speeds around 2,900fps. It seems to hold together well and will still give big exits on the lungs of something as small as a 110lb whitetail doe. Only one has given questionable penetration and it was a 90-100yd double-shoulder shot on a broadside 180lb buck. The bullet stopped under the hide on the offside.
160 NAB pushed to 3k.Several Whitetails,1 Elk.Lots of expansion with an exit every time so far.Accurate.

150 NBT always shot tight groups out of many rifles and should be a great hammer on deer,I just want a little more controlled expansion.

The 280/140 NBT combo @ 2,900 resulted in dead deer but bullets that just about turned to dust when hitting a front shoulder.Maybe just a bad batch?

2 seasons ago I purposely sholder shot a dink whitetail at about 30 yards with the 150 BT, MV of 2950 fps or so, just to see what would happen. No grenade effect whatsoever.. The 150 BT is a lot tougher bullet now than it was 12 years ago. I wouldn't hesitate to use it on anything around here.
SIL has used the 160AB in his 7 mag for one elk and one antelope, I watched both. Antelope buck was at about 150 yards, nearly facing us. Dropped at the shot, brisket centered entry, exit rear ribs. I was surprised at the lack of extreme damage, worked about perfectly for that shot.
Raghorn bull at about 225 yards, quartering away, entry on last rib, found the bullet centered in the far shoulder under the hide. The bull made it about 100 yards into the timber to pile up in some blow downs. Sure wished he would of dropped in the open! Bullet did it's job, just some of them take a while to figure it out.
In 2010 I killed this WT at 160 yards with a 150 BT out of a 7 Rem Mag at 3100 MV.

Quartering shot, hit in the 3rd or 4th ribs and exited thru the spine about 8" ahead of the tail.

About 3 feet of penetration.

Rembo,
Dandy buck! Looks like some pretty country up there.I gotta try some 150's this year based on everyone's success with them.

67 gr. of 7828 always shot like a champ in many 7mm mags. for me but I never used them because of some old (2000) era ballistic tips in the 280 grenading on more than 1x.

Dang, that's a nice buck!
63.0g of IMR 4350 with a 9 1/2 and 150g Nosler in a 7RM= very dead stuff with extreme accuracy.
I've put the accubonds through the paces in the 7mm, both the 140's and the 160's.

Heres some performance pictures on a 5 point bull I killed several years ago with a 160 AB, shot was maybe 30 yards. MV is around 2970 from 7RM...

Entrance side:

[Linked Image]

Exit, through the shoulder blade:

[Linked Image]

I've had similar results on 14 or so elk at ranges as far as 620 with the 160 AB's.

Exit side on a cow I killed at about 230 yards or so:

[Linked Image]

Entrance side on a bull my wife killed a couple years ago with a 140 AB from a 7-08. MV 2910.

[Linked Image]

Shot these 2 elk in about 60 seconds with a 7-08 and 140 AB's...150 and 170 yards. Cow was perfectly broadside, bullet exited about 50 cent piece sized. Bull was quartering away, same exit size but penetrated another foot or so:

My brother shot this bull with my 7-08 and 140 AB at 487 yards, quartering slightly away. Recovered the bullet just under the off-side shoulder...perfect expansion. (you can see a small amount of blood at the entrance)

[img]http://photos.imageevent.com/buzzandpat/elkhunting/websize/DSC00064.JPG[/img]

Bull I shot on a hard quartering toward shot with a 140 AB from a 7-08, busted the on shoulder. Bullet never exited but went through the lungs and liver. I assume the bullet was somewhere in the abdominal cavity.

They work just as well on all smaller animals...desert sheep, mule deer, whitetail, pronghorn, etc.

I've run the AB's through the ringer...they're a good bullet IMO/E.
Used 150 BT on about 15 springbok at 350-450. Very flat shooting. Expanded but did not fragment. Actually not much of a test.

Good to know...I found the 160 Accubond over 70 grs of Rel 25 shoots to the same point of impact at 300 meters as my 150 BT load.....have about 40 of them loaded.
BuzzH...nice pics...bet they didn't even know they were shot with a itty bitty teeny tiny 7/08... smile
I have some 150LRAB that i'm anxious to try in the 7/08...wanna send some of those fine looking animals to New York...just tell them that here there is more food than they could ever want and the grass is covered in molasses...lol
2Legit = True Dat smile Lol.

I speculated PERHAPS the 150 BT is a tougher bullet than the 140BT in 7mm, I do see it has a BC rivaling the 277 150BT. My thoughts were the 150 BT might be a step up on the 140s in a 7/08 if used on larger game if tougher, but even if not, the 150 might give a tad more downrange performance w/greater mass/ie. Energy. Buzz kinda blew holes in my thinking! Lol.

Nice kills above, Buzz - the 140 NAB is the one bullet I always recommend for most 7/08 shooters, for an all arounder. The new LRAB may also hold promise if one wants a heavier slug than common 120/140s used.

The 160/162 was always my favorite in 7RM, but my last one would put 3 150 BTs in 1/2" out the box, all day. Never seen 140s or lighter shoot well in a 7RM, but that's just been my experience.

Lastly, on the 160 NAB, seems like a good bullet, love the 130 6.5s, - though a buddy had some Fed. Premium ammo that clocked a measly 2600 and change, I was unimpressed, but that was the load, not bullets fault.

Nice posts guys. Indeed JG, fine Mulie, your story reminds me of a Mulie I punched thru the throat at 275 yds in Colorado years ago, 150 PT in a 270 Win, ended up JUST shy of exiting the ham, just after flipping base forward before stopping, reversing the empty front jacket half of the bullet that had expanded and mushroomed.
I killed 75-100 WT deer with 150 NBT out of a 7mmRM 20+ years ago. I can't remember any penetration issues. I do remember very large exit holes and lots of bang flops.
I have zero concern on deer, was more interested perhaps on reaching Elk Vitals from all angles, sane I might add smile
Use AB's 140 in 7/08 and 160's in 7Mag and 7WSM on hogs and whitetails with nary a problem.

Ain't found one yet and most went high into shoulders.

Had bad experiences with NBT when they first came out and haven't used them since.

I'm sure they're fine now, as a friend and son have smoked truck loads of hogs with them out of 7/08's and 7Mags.

I just never got around to using them again.
I really like the 150 gr. NBT but it seems tougher than necessary on deer sometimes. I have some 160gr. Accubonds that I haven't tried yet, maybe this year.
I like the 150 BT in my 280 rem. I have always had an easier time finding accurat loads with BT's vs AB's.
I've used the 160 AB in a 280 and 7STW. Good results in both rifles, from 70 to 360 yard shots and game from antelope to elk. Great bullet.

Outstanding, bud. smile
I've never used a BT but I've recently tried Accubonds. I was using 160 partitions but they're $50 a box up here now. On moose rib shots there were all pass tbroughs (no surprise) from 130 to 300 yards.

The only moose I've taken with an Accubond so far was 250 yards and quartered away. Hit in the ribs, passed through the lungs and heart and lodged in the far side elbow. I didn't bother digging out the bullet.

Small entry wound and very little meat damage in the far quarter, if any. Text book performance IMHO. Moose coughed and dropped.

MV was 2925 fps and it was a 160 grain. I love 'em.

Coughed n dropped - PERFECT wink

2925 will Get R Done
I have shot two elk with 160 grain Nosler Partitions, both were about 175 yards, first one was shot with a 7mm RM quartering away, bullet hit behind the left shoulder and came out the brisket the size of a tennis ball, the elk ran 40 yards and died, blood all over. The second elk was shot with a 7mm Weatherby Mag, broadside, shot went high just under the spine, took out dorsal artery, he went 5 yards and stood there long enough for me to shoot him again behind the should causing him to drop and die, no bullets recovered, big exit holes.

Yeah, I get pretty good accuracy at that velocity so I decided not to push it any further.

At the ranges I normally hunt, trying to squeeze another few hundred fps out of it won't do much good I feel.

Definitely works for me!
