Hi Folks,
Back in the late 1980s Remington made a variation of the 700 BDL with a parkerized finish and a camo or gray (I owned three of them in both color variations.. I'm such a rifle loony) synthetic stock made from a compound called rynite.

These stocks were much stiffer, heavier, and much more solidly constructed than the current crop of "tupperware" stocks used by most manufacturers. As I recall they were also relatively inexpensive as an aftermarket item.

Does any company still make rynite stocks in a sporter rifle configuration?

I could be wrong, but I think the Ramline Syntec stocks are made of rynite. I've got one in ADL configuration and it is very stiff (and noisy) compared to today's tupperware. Filling the butt with high expansion foam should go a long way toward quieting the hollow boom when a branch snaps against it.

Choate's synthetic stocks are Rynite. I know they make them for large ring and small ring Mausers, unsure about other actions.

I also have a T/C Contender Carbine and a Savage 112 stocked in Rynite from the manufacturers. I'm pretty sure Contender (Encore???) stocks are still available this way.

Thanks for the info on Choate. Unfortunately, all the make the sporter stocks for are the Mauser and the Savage 110 series.

I always was under the impression that the RS Remington 700's were made by Butler Creek.

Also, the "AS" (Arylon stock) of the same apx. vintage were Lee Six stocks. In fact I have two. One is an ADL and one is a BDL The ADL is a Lee Six and the BDL is a Remington. Other than the magaizine configuration and the name on the recoil pad, they are identical.

I also have a "FS" Remington stock. I was told these were made by Brown Precision.

I had forgotten about the Six Enterprises stocks.

I had one of the AS BDL Remingtons in .30/06 that shot really well and a Model 7 7mm/08 in the FS version that was neat little rifle.

I was wrong about the Ramline stocks. They are injection-molded with fiberglass strands. No Rynite, sorry.

Rynite is the tradename for PET Polyester (polyethylene terephthalate) molding material manufactured and sold by DuPont. PET must be compounded with fiberglass or particulate filler in order to be injection moldable.

Almost any resin, such as Nylon, PBT, POM, ABS, whatever, may be compounded with fiberglass, although most of them are moldable as straight (neat) resins. Fiberglass adds stiffness and impact resistance to the resin, but it does increase the specific gravity. Some manufacturers make long-strand fiberglass compounds which have extremely high impact resistance and stiffness.

PET is a good choice for gunstocks because it has good chemical resistance, heat resistance, and excellent stiffness. A prime source for PET molding resin is recycled Coke 2-liter bottles. Leisure suits may also be used as a source.

Rynite is injection [bleep]...................

Methinks I smell a highly trained chemist at work here. Recycling leisure suits into rifle stocks--Now that is creative science.

Can you think of a better use of leisure suits?

No sir, recycling them into rifle stocks is the best use I've ever heard of for leisure suits.
