I picked up a t3 ss in .223 rem with the 1x10 barrel. I had thought about a ruger american since they have a 1x8 but I like the tikka better and found one on sale for $579. A little late to ask advice now but for shooting paper out to 300 yards am I really going to be dissapointed with a 1x10 twist? I mostly want to use it as a trainer for the kids so they can hunt with my t3 .308. Okay I admit it I want to have a little fun as well. I hope to make to the range soon and bout some 55 grain hornadys to start with.

Unless you plan to shoot heavy/long bullets, I'm sure you'll be pleased.

You will enjoy that rifle! Good choice! There is a T3 Superlight in .223 signing the siren song to me.

If the counter jockey at the boz sportsman's whorehouse ain't fulla chit, you better buy it sooner than later..

I shot one today. Pretty nice rifles..Sadly, not as accurate as I had hoped. However, my friend was the one doing load development. I shot some factory Fiocchi's that barely went sub moa. Nice rifle though..

8 twist barrels are going away on those, too..

They must've hired bean-counters from Remington. Glad I snagged one when I did.

I had a tikka a few years ago, I swear it had 1:8 twist. Now looking at the wed site they offer 1:12or 1:8.
I tried 60 gr Nos Partitions in mine. Realize this rifle was purchased witha purpose, it did not fulfill. I'd also bought my son a Tikka 270 so I gave him both rifles.

I have a 1-10 Tikka just like yours. Sub-MOA all day long with 50 grain VMax, 26.5 gr Benchmark, CCI 400 primers at 2.276". This load shoots just as well in my dad's Superlite 1-8 and my brother's Tikka Varmint model.

Might be apples to oranges, but I've never gotten 60gr Nosler Partitions to shoot anywhere near as good as just about anything else in my R-15. I've tried about 8 different powders and even loading them past mag length to get closer to the lands. Seems like I can touch 2 of 5 at 100 yds but always a couple flyers....IDK why....

OT, I would love to own another tikka t3, but I wouldn't get one with anything slower than 1:8. With some of the new powders you could stabilize 75+ grain bullets out of one with the faster twist.

My T3 Superlite in 308 is my favorite rifle to shoot by far, just an incredible tack driver right out of the box!

I've tried the 60gr Nosler Partition in several rifles (.223's and .22-250's) and have had zero luck. The most finicky .224 bullet ever, IME.

Rancho, can you share your load information. My buddies is the superlite with the 1 in 8 twist and he was shooting the 65gr. sierra GK bullets and they were not real accurate. He actually shot my 300 wsm better (3/4" 3 shot group) from the sitting position than he did his Tikka (for the most part) off the bench. He was using Norma powder in some loads and H335 sick in others. He'd shoot 3 shots and then let the barrel cool and then 2 more. Groups were from 3/4" to 1 1/2+" He's demonstrated that he's a very good shot with my rifles, so I don't think it's him. I suggested to load them closer to the lands and switching powder (maybe Tac or benchmark). He's limited by the mag box length, so he says he has to run them off the lands by about .050". It's not my rifle, so I don't know if he's correct: Just going by what he told me. I know my Ruger m77 mkII .223 rem mag box was too short so I lengthened it. That's probably not an option with those plastic detachable magazines on the Tikka is it???? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

Thanks waputi...I'll check that out.

That thread on lengthening the mag box is awesome. Rancho knows his business!!!
Posted By: Rancho_Loco Re: New Tikka .223 - 03/24/14
The 65 GK runs great in my rig over 25.5 grains of varget, 25.5 grains of H335, and a max load of TAC.

Funny thing is, they're all at 2.260" so I can run them through the AR, too. (shrug)

Thanks buddy. I'll relay the info to my friend..

With all the guys talking about how they like their 1:12 and 1:14 twist barrels I see no reason why a 1:10 would not meet all of your expectations up to 65 grains as long as you keep the velocity up. I'd like to have one as well. kwg
