Pet Peave....

in the Hawkeye Predator and Target/Varmint, they offer them with a one in 14 twist....

in the Flimsy Ruger American Models, they offer it with a one in 10 twist....

Someone in Ruger's Market Dept needs to wake up....

one in 14 twists on a 22.250 is about as old as last decades old news...

have one that I put a one in 7 twist stainless barrel from Pac Nor on, and it sure dramatically adds to the rifle's versatility....
My 22-250 American has a 1/14" barrel on it despite what their website says.
1:9" twist is the new 1:14" twist for .22-250 Remington. Manufacturers have to catch up with the new reality.

damn. mine has a measured 1-10.
When I ordered a LH Tikka .223 they were advertised with a 1 in 8 twist, but when it arrived it was clearly marked 1 in 10 - they lengthened it and didn't tell anybody.

But I found that if I give the rifle a quick 90 degree twist as I pull the trigger it effectively shortens the barrel twist to 1 in 9 so I can still use most of the longer bullets.
Seafire - re: RAR .22/250 1:10 twist issue. Have gone thru this a few weeks ago w/ Steelhead and others. I have a RAR w/ 1:10 twist verified by three (3) gunsmiths PLUS Mike Fiefer CEO of Ruger. It is what it is...RAR is not a M77 Hawkeye but a seperate line. WHY this twist rate is so hard to digest is beyond me...too fast a twist over spins the normal projectiles; too slow a twist nobody likes...1:10 is a compromise - nothing more. Live with it OR buy another rifle. Homesteader.
Obviously Ruger made them with 1-14" and 1-10" twists. You don't know which one you are getting. Order one online and it could be a first run that has been sitting on the shelf for a year and has a 1-14 ROT.

Or you could ask to see the 3 that Gander Mtn store has in stock and run a tight patch down each barrel. I'm sure the gun counter folks there will not have a problem with that.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ruger is buying barrels from Begara with the 1 in 10 twist... Begara for some reason, thinks a one in 10 twist is the answer to everything...
Ruger makes their own barrels these days, and they are darn good at it.
Why did they pick a 10 twist? That's like an all-terrain tire, not really good at anything.
