I�ve seen the same bullet at the same speed blow gaping holes in coyotes. When bone is hit, all bets are off.

I shot a big male with the 130 ttsx in a 30-06 this year. Same result. Bang-flop and could have done a full mount if I wanted to. Just flat tanning that one. The buck got the taxidermy priority.

Barnes and bone is good juju.

I have some 130 TTSXs on the way to try in my .270 Featherweight. Shoots 130 Hornadys well enough, but want to try the Barnes.

Something about the 270 and coyotes. Seems like I have killed more with a 270 than any other cartridge but my 223 is catching up.

Coyotes are so thin skinned that hitting bone often turns said bone into skin penetrating projectiles.

Note to self:
When wanting to save hides, aim between the ribs.


OP wanted a soccer ball sized hole. Shoulda loaded his 270 with soccer balls. Dead animals mean nothing. Big holes do. They're more dead that way.

Same rifle, but Left Hand 130 gr BT never move straight down 50 cent exit hole. Model 70 LH 270 Win this past deer season.

OK, I'm jealous, A left hand model 70 is one of those rifles on my wish list.

The TTSX on the yote hit lots of bone.

The puss-cat met a 130 Partition. Didn't hit any bone. Opposite side has a gaping hole from shoulder to azzhole.

A lot of guys kill most of their coyotes whilst deer hunting...

My various .243s have taken more coyotes than I'll ever have the opportunity to catch up with. For 30 years it was virtually all that I ever carried. These days I have so many toys that some barely get used from year to year.

The light handy little H&R/sako .222 is so easy to carry that it sees more than it's share of use. As long as I avoid bone, it's fur friendly on our largish coyotes.
My Model 70 fwt .25-06 is a ball to shoot, but very fur unfriendly with the 75 vmax bullet.

Just yesterday I was walking a semi hilly area of mixed bean and corn stubble with some small pockets of cover. Took the .222 as it is so carry friendly...

It was dry and noisy walking, and the only coyote I saw was sneaking out nearly a quarter mile ahead of me across a creek bottom pasture.
Lead flew. Coyote lived another day...

The easy carry choice is not always the way to go...
