Its winter and nothing going on, I built an old school Remington BDL in .222 mainly from stuff I got on the Campfire here. I must have been in a hurry cause I did a schitty job of bedding and the barrel was REALLY floating around in the forend, and cock-eyed to boot. It shot like crazy...but I couldn't stand it anymore, so I tore into it today, removed the old bedding, did some fitting in the barrel channel, and re-did the thing. Im bored...

Its this rifle...

Found out it loves Vmax 50 grainers and cut those groups in half...

Pics to follow when the weather lets me get up got the range...

Looks like a shooter! Shrapnel may even approve....
Posted By: ingwe Re: Today's Project. - 12/27/14
Doubtful......its not a deuce mag...or a Sako! eek

However it was with a BDL just like that in 243 that I killed my first deer...normal guys buy the muscle cars they drove in high school, rifle looneys buy the guns they used in high school ( Yes...I got a Nylon 66 too! laugh )

Figured you worked on spears before matchlocks. whistle
Posted By: 4ager Re: Today's Project. - 12/27/14
Rocks, just rocks. He always said those spears were fads and would never catch on.
Posted By: ingwe Re: Today's Project. - 12/27/14
OK...I didn't want to have to do this but.....

Careful, at your most advanced age you should know you can't trust a fart.

Then again, you've been wearing Depends since they were made from ground sloth hide, so you might not care anymore.

He's bashful,Ingwe is the one who found out that flint will spark. Just don't ask him about his eyebrows, that's how he found out about black powder and sparks.
Posted By: 4ager Re: Today's Project. - 12/27/14
Wow, and all this time I figured it was due to him being the one to figure out that farting bad over an open fire could "backfire".

Discovering flint. I'm in awe.

You will smoke a turd in hell for being mean to an old man. Ive had arthritis in my hands so bad today that I couldn't even flip you off if you were here.

But its the thought that counts.... grin

Yup,Ingwe is truly amazing....

Just ask him. grin

I've been condemned to Hell several times over the past day by good "Christians", so at least I'll have something to "enjoy" while there.

I will have to ask your advice on flavors, vintage, and proper smoking etiquette, though. Given your "ages" of practice on the same you should be able to he'p a brudda out.

It is a real dandy seeing christians get all spooled up with others on how to be 'christian'... grin
Posted By: elkhunternm Re: Today's Project. - 12/27/14
Nope, that one has a bad after taste. I like elk schit with a little bit of bear schit.
Posted By: ingwe Re: Today's Project. - 12/27/14
I will have the humidor stocked with both, rest assured... grin

Great! smile

Someone once said "I like your Christ but not your Christians." Maybe it was Ghandi, I don't remember. Either way, it pains me when Christians estrange people.
Posted By: 4ager Re: Today's Project. - 12/27/14
Tell me about it.

Schit just keeps getting stranger by the minute.

Nice let's see a better pic of it
Posted By: LEADMINER Re: Today's Project. - 12/27/14
Don't pay any attention to these younger folks Ingwe...their day is coming! I would like to see another pic as well...love those "vintage" 700s. I have an early 222 carbine in ADL config. I think its a sweetheart. Bruce
Posted By: TC1 Re: Today's Project. - 12/27/14
Me too, the checkering looks nice.
Posted By: ingwe Re: Today's Project. - 12/27/14
TC1...you have some of the finest guns imaginable...and you like the impressed checkering? <snork!>

I am not a big fan myself, but something about that stock always fit me well...and I must be the only one...everyone else hates them ( usually...)

Anyway...another pic, scope and mounts have been changed since this pic. Finished the project this morning, new bedding job is Mo' betta!

Ten...minimum, another on the way... grin

Components are cheap, I shoot a lot...gophers will account for a few thousand rounds per year.....and since Im older I don't hunt anything bigger than deer anymore, and have long since found you don't need a bigger gun for deer...

He'll be fine...even if it isn't just a fart, all it will be is dust
Posted By: ingwe Re: Today's Project. - 12/27/14
But the fart will be directed in your general direction!

Rev. If you want 20 different versions of how to live your life as a Christian, tune into the " Childish and disrespectful " thread in the freak show.

I was right...the Thread is Epic. grin

Poobah don't be stunt shootin those Montana bucks w/a .224. You'll get a bad reputation and kicked out of the good old boy's club. Especially if you use less than a 62gr bullet. powdr

Those rings are ( or were) marketed as Remingtons...I forget who really made them, but they are excellent rings...a bit heavy though, and non-PC so I have since switched to Talley Lightweights...so as to continue being accepted at the 'fire...

That's a sweet rifle!

Have you tried any lighter bullets, such as 40s in the 222? The Hodgdon manual shows some 3500+ fps loads.

Posted By: MagMarc Re: Today's Project. - 12/30/14
Old Weaver bases and rings would have been cool.

I have shot some 40 gr. BTs...you are right, the rifle loved them!

Seems to favor the 50 Vmax the most, though its hard to tell.

I picked up a 1976 760 06 a couple of weeks ago. I went Weaver B&R and Denver Redfield 5 Star 2-7. The SOB shot Fed Fusions into an inch grin
