Limiting selection to what you already have. If you could only keep 1 rimfire, 1 centerfire, and 1 shotgun...what would they be and why?

I would keep:

1. Ruger 10/22-Weaver Classic K4 not the most accurate .22 I own, but it gets the job done and I've had it since I was 12.

2. CZ550 Premium .270-Leupold FX-3 6x42-most accurate rifle I own, if I absolutely positively have to deliver the meat to the pot...this is the one I trust to get it done.

3. Coast to Coast Model 367 12ga(full choke)(Savage Model 30) I've only got 2 shotguns, no real attachment to either but this one gets the most use.

There's mine.
I'd grab the first one out of the safe and use it to blow my head off.

Travis
Marlin 22LR - from Pop when I was 10
Win M70 270 - belonged to late uncle
Citori - Christmas bonus to myself 10 years ago.

And might as well add a pistol:

1911- graduation present

Hmmm, maybe its time to have a yard sale.
Just for the record I'm not whittling it down...just bought a new safe... wink

Id do the same, but only after I offed as many of the folks that said I had to whittle the collection down as possible...

Then I'd go to Travis' and take all his guns.
Eh, I don't mind a good ass chewing by someone that doesn't particularly like the rifle I chose, but this thread has taken a serious detour thats no joking matter.

The ony whittling done 'round here is with a pocket knife and wood.

I'd be perfectly happy with a 22, a good 270 or 30-06, and a 12 gauge.

Be sure to check the magazine on his 7-08 for 22-250s.

Agreed, I guess moving the guns to the new safe and the fact that I'll be 40 of Friday just got me thinking...I certainly didn't see it going THAT direction.
1) Sako M78 22lr - best 22 ever made
2) Sako L61R .270 or .30-06 - excellent rifles in all respects
3) Beretta A400 Xplor Unico 12 gauge - reliable, light, handles well

Fanboy.
I guess I'd keep whatever I had the most ammo for....because it appears that I'd need it to defend from the next attempted gun grab that's sure to come.

My thinking would not be to keep the sexy....but keep them for killing power and ample supply of ammo.

But if I were choosing to do it....which I wouldn't.....I'd probably keep the GAP non-typical 308, a S&W Model 18 22 LR, and a Benelli 12 Ga.

Me too but I'd split the difference and go .280, on a Kimber action.

Rimfire: NULA rimfire - accurate, light, fun

Shotgun: Benelli M2 12 gauge - works well for every thing, ducks, turkey, rabbits, quail, dove - having a 21" and 26" barrel is nice

Centerfire: I start shaking here. One of the .308's, either the Montana or custom M7. The .308 does it all and is easy to feed. I want it in a lightweight stainless package.

Really needs to be a light centerfire to be filled with a .223/.223AI.

2) Rem M7600 30-06 carbine
3) Rem 870

Rem 870 12 gauge, or 20 not picky.
Well you see officer, I was out duck hunting and just decided to take ALL of my guns with me and then the boat capsized and I never reported it or filed an insurance claim because my insurance company doesn't cover guns anyway and I just don't have any guns anymore.
If you don't believe me, I have 172 acres and here's a shovel. No whittling allowed.
I could get by with a 22 if I had to.

Guilty as charged...though my love of Sako rifles started way before Beretta picked them up. I have both Benelli and Browning auto shotguns and still think the Beretta is the best.

This thread has made me chuckle. But I'm game:

2nd Series Colt Woodsman Sport (I'd eschew a .22lr rifle just because I could not part with this classic)

Pre 64 .30-06

Benelli SBE II, because it kills anything with wings.
1. 10-22
2. Win M-70 6.5x55
3. A 390
Savage .22 single shot (Grandpa's gun)

Marlin 336 .30-30 (Grandpa's gun)

Beretta A 390 12 gauge
To whittle or not to whittle, that is the question....
CZ 22 LR varmint
pre-64 300 H&H

Benelli SBE
Just for S&Gs.

Marlin 39A
Rem 722 300 Savage, w/spare extractor LOL
Rem 31 12ga
I'm keeping every single one, as there are several that have not been fired yet.
Ah hell. I'll play:

1. Left hand 870 12 gauge

2. Ruger 10-22

3. Custom Winchester pre 64 model 70 338 win mag....
Crap this is !! OK a cricket, 458,12gauge muzzle loader. MIND YOU it is the long gun not the round involved, don't won,t to piss umm the safe off.

Winchester 94 30/30
Savage 99 .308
Ruger 10/22
Remington 870 12 gauge
What a depressing choice, but I'll play...
.22 LR Belgian Browning T2, w/Leupold 2-7 rimfire scope and the original peep sight. It was the "one that got away" when I was 16 and then acquired much later in life, can't let this one go.
Browning 16 ga Citori white Lightning. I have many other shotguns that are better at doing one thing. But none of them are as versatile or as easy to hit with in most situations. From Snipe and partridge to Sporting Clays and giant Canadas, it's done it all.
Sako L579 .308 with Karl Kaps 2.5-10 x 50 scope and original Sako peep sight. I started with a .308 as my first modern big game rifle. Never determined an actual need for anything different than a good .308 for all my big game hunting in this part of Canada. It would just be coming back full circle after trying and liking a couple dozen other rifles and cartridges ranging from a .250 Savage 99 to a Ruger RSM .375 H & H.

I could whittle it down to one: Pre-64 Winchester M70 30-06.

Thank you. I could be very happy with those 3, no regrets.
Shudder the thought, but I'll play:

CZ 452 .17 Mach II - The most deadly squirrel machine I have ever used.

Remington 700 8mm Rem Mag - Handles anything from 150 or even 125 gr spitzers for open country deer/antelope up to stiff 250 gr Woodleighs for big beasties.

Benelli 121 SL 80 12ga - The most deadly and reliable scattergun I've ever owned.

Oops!!! Sorry, I couldn't help myself...
I would keep my 375 H&H , and throw rocks at grouse , ptarmigan , and bunnies. Ducks taste like swamp mud , dont need a shotgun smile
These threads are fun! Here are my choices.

22LR is a Remington Nylon 66 that belonged to my father and one day will belong to my grandson

Shotgun would be my synthetic camo stocked 870 Remington 12 Gauge with two barrels

The centerfire rifle selection gave me the most trouble. Finally settled on my Remington 700ADL 30-06 cerakoted by EddieF with Gretan firing pin/spring and tuned trigger

Second choice would be a Winchester Model 70 30-06 with a 24 inch tube that really shoots!

So it's a Remington sweep!
Ya know,,come to think about it I don't own a Remington or a S&W. Not that I don't like them.

The last Remington i had was an 870 super express 3.5. That was the biggest pos ever. It would not extract anything but remmy shells and that was ify. Don't get me wrong, but I still think and old 870 wingmaster is one of the greatest shotguns ever.
.22 Rifle....coin toss between a CZ452 American 17" with TS AXIOM suppressor and a really beautiful Kimber 22...that would be a tough one.

[Linked Image]

Centerfire hunting rifle...easy...Remingtom Model 7KS Custom Shop .350 Remington Magnum. Will do everything from small game to big bears...

[Linked Image]

Shotgun: Valmet 412 with 24" barrels with tubes, 26" barrel with tubes, 30" fixed Full chokes and a 12 ga/.223 barrel with 1.5-5 Leupold scope in QD mount.....or is that cheating...

Bob
Based on this post it appears as though if I want a Marlin 56 like Fireball's I will have to find another (although I have only ever seen one laugh ).

and since I know Fireball won't part with his I would keep my Mauser 201 .22 or my Winchester 52 sporter or my 40X sporter - ahh crap cant decide on that one grin

The centerfire is easy - a Remington Model 7 in .260 (no big bears I my future or African game).

and a Remington Model 11-87 .12 gauge

kinda fun to think about when I don't have anything else to do and if I didn't have such an addiction I could have gone on a bunch of hunting trips with just three guns - there is still time grin

PennDog
Remington 541T with a Burris 3-9x32 Compact in 22lr.
Beretta Mato with a Burris 3-10x40 Signature Select in 30-06.
Caesar Gurrieni Summit Sporting with 30" barrels in 12 gauge.
Cooper M57 22 mag
Mk 5 Fibermark 270 Wby.
Cz Bobwhite in 12 gauge

M60 with silencer

Not sure about the others, I'd be busy with the M60
CZ 452 .22 LR, Left hand

Remington 11-87, 12 ga. - This wouldn't be my all-around shotgun choice today if I were going to buy one, but this was my primary shotgun for years and it sure piled up the game. I guess I am a bit attached to it.

Ruger Mk II .30/06, Left hand - I am definitely attached to this rifle. It would be the last one to go!

Note: Heaven forbid I ever have to cut it down to 3, because there are a lot of other worldly possessions around here that would have to go first!
Ok, I'll play.
Ruger 10/22 (not my most accurate 22, but my second gun)
Kimber 260
AL391 12 b/c it does everything so well with manageable recoil (or 870 Wingmaster LW 20 Magnum, my first gun)
OK guys. This is blackmail. Each of you needs to pay me in bullets, brass or powder or I'll forward a link to this thread to your wives. Grin...
Too tough to think toward!
Because of the forum title Hunting RiflesI assume your question is limited to same. If we had to include protection weapons my answer would be different.

The .22 is easy. I only have one, a CZ452 trainer.

Not many shotguns. My 870 express in 16 ga. gets the nod. It does every thing I need a shotgun to do.

The rifle is tough. It would have to be my Walmart tupperware push feed model 70 in .30-06 with a 3-9 x 40 VX-II with a #1 reticle. This is my most versital rifle, and has never caused me to say WTF in the over 2,000 rounds I've put through it. Also the .30-06 will be with us for a long time.
short action Savage with 243, 7-08 and 308 barrels

- 22 MAG by Marlin with 2-7X scope. Great for small game and varmints.

- 16 gauge side by side by Savage. Perfect for upland game.

I can see you're feelin the Marlin love, the force is strong. I have not seen another like this one myself. Don't be discouraged, the rifles themselves are common on Gunbroker, and a custom stock could be made. If you want one, make it! Imagine this stocked with French Walnut, blonde with dark streaks. smile Life's too short. If you think about it too long you'll get old and won't want one any longer.

3)FN-SLP 12 gauge...............see number 1.
Good question and one I have also considered. I would keep My Remington 700 XCR II 300 WM as my all-around big game hunting rifle, I would keep My Ruger 77/22 22lr that shoots fantastic for squirrel hunting and for my shotgun I'd keep my trusty Remington 870 Super Mag camo with 26" barrel for all-around use.......I would hate to see it come to this but I could get by with these three and hunt everything I do now.................Hb
