Been looking at the soft cases for scope rifles for trips to the range and hunting trips. Seen the Cabela's "Dakota", and Bulldog. Thoughts or suggestions for good choices?
Like INGWE I have a Boyt that has seen some adventures. There is blood and mud, dust and oil staining the canvas outsides. It has been strapped to many snowmobiles and 4 wheelers. Last year it took a dive out of the back of a Ranger ATV. When we got to the ranch house the gun was missing. Had to backtrack to find it. The only excuse for losing it, was we were chasing a coyote that was faster than the Ranger. They are good cases but tend to get soaked if left in the rain or snow too long.
I have them for all sorts of rifles and handguns. I even have one that carries two shotguns (in separate cases that zip together). I'll normally use them when I'm heading to a friend's ranch and setting just the rifles on the back seat. If the rifles go into the bed of the pickup, they go in hard cases.
I also use their soft case made for take down O/U shotguns rather than the hard cases when traveling by motor vehicles. They seem to haul better for me. They work for M12 & M42 as well.
I picked up the Bulldog Extreme 2 years ago for my trip to Africa.....in simple black
I wanted the best soft case I could find and didn't care who made it so I looked at cases for quite some time including Boyt before deciding on the BDEx
Over 2" thick with a super soft interior.....cheap yes but it has a very good zipper and tough fabric
I've been to Sportsman, Cabela's and BP today looking at soft gun cases. I agree on the Boyts. Well made but light on padding. Like a moving pad with a good zipper.
I have a Koplin Rhino Rib soft rifle case that I got from Cabela's a few years back. I also got the shotgun model at the same time as they were on sale. It has a hard cap to protect the muzzle and stiff plastic along the bottom and middle to protect the scope/sights. I like them a lot but when I searched for them on the net I couldn't find them. If you could find one I bet you would like it too.
My Boyts are good, with one being 30 years old. I do have one that is 20 years old that the zipper has started to tear away from the canvas. I could probably send it in to them for repair.
The Hunter Travis posted looks like a pretty decent case.

My hunting buddy and I put our rifles in the back seat of the truck. They lay more or less flat in the seat. All I have to do to get my rifle us unzip the case a foot or two.
My hunting buddy has to dig his hard case out and get it on top of the pile before he can open it. Most annoying to say the least. After years of cursing that case I finally told him to bring a soft case or stay home.
