So, it has me curious. Is it just me, or are they not very popular? Could this be because or there price, or because they are just an acquire taste?

Who loves em' and who hates em'?

They are popular at My place I've got 10 of them

I love 'em. Of the six I had only one would not keep all its bullets inside one MOA; except for my 6.5mm wildcat. It was the second .340 using 250 Partitions and always good for about 1 1/4". I love the action and I love the stock shape and I love the light weight of the six lug model.

I inherited a .300 and a .257 that my father bought in Germany in the late 50's. I really like them!

I like my Deluxe 300WBY
Posted By: BobinNH Re: WBY Mark V's - 04/14/16
Love them or hate them, they are part of rifle Americana just like Rem 700's M70's, M94 30-30's etc.
Posted By: moosemike Re: WBY Mark V's - 04/14/16
I've always admired them.

Count me in with 3

Growing up and in my early years they were always out of reach money wise.... I have one now and I really like it.... Good shooting and good looking

I'm a Weatherby user, currently own five of them. Most consistently accurate rifles I've ever owned, not one has ever failed to deliver. I can appreciate if some don't care for their looks, but performance-wise they're excellent rifles. Their ammo is expensive, then again I haven't bought factory ammo in a while.

Not a MK V; but I like my .17HMR MK XXII also:

Price was my initial issue. Now that's not a problem.
Posted By: Sako76 Re: WBY Mark V's - 04/15/16
I've owned four, still have three (2 Ultralights in 06 and a stainless fluted in 300 WBY), all three shoot very good, killed 8 elk with the 300!
Posted By: TATELAW Re: WBY Mark V's - 04/15/16
The Mark V is still on my wish list. I've owned a Vanguard and it was a great rifle, but one of my friends wanted it. I currently own two rifles in Weatherby cartridges, 257 & 240, both are customs built on Pre-64 Win 70 actions.

In the past year I've picked up a LH Ultralight in 7 Rem Mag and a Fibermark in 30-06. Like the feel, now just need to take them to the field. Just something about the feel of them.

Weatherby would sell many more if they dropped that god awful stock shape. It needs to go the way of the leisure suit and shag carpeting.
I have two in Brown stocks. Not bad rigs but a bit on the heavy side. I also think the bottom metal release design on the Japanese made versions I own is an accident waiting to happen.

I doubt that. Before I ever owned a Weatherby, when the 8mm Rem Mag came out, I had a 7 Rem Mag rechambered for a 7-8mm Rem Mag. It pounded me. I machined a flat place on the stock and glued a chunk of balsa wood on and began firing and carving and sanding and firing until I was no longer hammered by the recoil. Then I saw a Weatherby and realized all I did was copy ol' Roy's experiment.

The two recent stocks I purchased for light rifles, a Proof Research and an MPI, cost about an extra "C" note to get that shaped added to the stock. Both these stocks started life weighing twelve ounces. Now, with the recoil pad, trigger guard, inletting, and swivels they are about twenty-four ounces. There is no way I would have a hunting rifle if it did not have the Weatherby shape.

I will agree with you about the release. Both my stocks are like Remington ADL's.

I love them. got 240 257 270 7mm 300 30-378 340 378 416 460. All in different configurations. Waiting for my 6.5mm Bee from the custom shop.

Don't like 'em, either. Give me one and I'd own it just long enough to sell it to buy something I like.

Old Roy sure saw a bunch of you boys coming! smile

Like Fotis, I own many Mk V's and have a 6.5 300 in route. I find no fault with them.

Which stock fits you best depends on your build. The weatherby shape seems to pound me harder and have more muzzle rise than a straight comb stock. In addition the square forend feels poor in the hand.
The fact remains however, that many people find the weatherby stock atrocious looking.

Like anything else in life some people like them and some don't. I have two, a .257 Deluxe and a .300 Accumark. Both are accurate. The .300 goes with me everywhere.

I have a Deluxe in 300wby and an accumark in 270wby. Both shoot great. They are both heavy and long. The deluxe handles better than the Accumark. Fit and finish on both are excellent. I dont get much use out of either. I would probably sell or trade out of the Accumark if I could find someone who couldnt live without it. But I doubt I could part with the Deluxe whether I ever hunt with it again or not.

I love the cartridges and the look but the MKV doesn't fit me very well. I deal with it best I can... but she sure is purrty......
