.... rifles have been discontinued and I bought everything they had left. That translates into good things for you guys.....they'll be cheap!
Some have the black stock, some have the green stock. Most are their #2 sporter contour, some are heavy barrel varmint rigs. Magnums are 24", everything else is 22". They all have the 2 stage trigger and bottom metal -- no DBM.
I'll get an actual breakdown and post it here first.
Good to hear, SAS. I've got a buddy looking at a 308 now. I'll tell him to wait to hear from you!
Yep. Me too. Though I really shouldn't......
Thanks SAS. Do you know if Howa quit making them, or did LSI decide to market Cerakoted models instead? Either way, I don't like it.
Layaway? I just put another one on tonight. It's almost too easy, click, click, click, done... 90 days to figure it out. LOL
Layaway will be available.
MSRP starts at $769.99 on these rifles. We'll be selling them for less than half of that! I'm negotiating freight today or I'd go ahead and post the price.
I don't know if it was a Howa or Legacy deal, but you can bet it was a cost saving measure on somebody's part. I'm a fan of stainless too...
Any 243 Win or 308 Win or 6.5 creed?
Anxious to see what calibers are available.
Yes, yes and no. I asked specifically about the 6.5 creed and there are none. There are 6.5x55's though...
My thoughts...they'll be priced low enough to strip for builds too. Some guys will keep them as is for an all stainless rifle and some guys will pull the barrel for builds.
Any of those going to be 375 Ruger?
Howas are my favorite push-feeds. Gotta wonder why they're cutting the stainless models though.
Gettum while they're hot, boys! (and girls)
Looks like they will be a heck of a deal. Always liked them but too heavy from the factory the stocks being my bigger complaint, at that price affording a build will be very easy!
So I don't have to look it up,does the safety lock the bolt on these? What is the weight comparison to a 700?
So I don't have to look it up,does the safety lock the bolt on these? What is the weight comparison to a 700?
It's three position. Rear locks bolt, middle let's it move freely, forward goes bang.
700's are lighter.
Dave
Any stainless barreled actions?
No stainless barreled actions...no 375 Ruger's.
The Howa's have an integral lug, which does make them heavier than 700. That's a feature a really like.
Keep us in the loop SAS....

Do you know what calibers are going to be available? I'd be interested in seeing a list.
I'll post the list as soon as its finalized.
I would like dibs on the ones I want.
Dave
Sounds like I've got to make another road trip, it's only a couple hours down the road, and I like Howas.
I just dropped $760 servicing the wife's car (tires, alignment, oil change, other trivial stuff).
That's probably TWO Howas I can't buy now. Arrrrggghhh.
I wonder if there will still be SS Vanguards?
I would like dibs on the ones I want.
Dave
Buy one for me too Clark!
I'll have the money to you on April 1.

As a public service, Howa 1500 Rates of Twist from the 2015 catalog:
For some reason I thought these were available in 7mm 08. If these are what are offered i will pull the trigger on the 270. Friend has had one for a while and though I love the action I never warmed up to the stock. I have been debating being cheap and trying the b and c medalist or just ordering a mcmillan. The weatherby style stocks always feel great to me but I am concered about their q/c.
Do Howas have a short and long action or are they like Tikkas, on length?
Chart above says "Short" and Long" under the column "Action Type."
Thanks for the heads up, Darrik. Please keep us posted!

The Hogue stock takes some getting used to. It's weird. But It's a very good stock as far as stability goes, and it's also VERY quiet. I have grown to like mine. It's functional.
Uhhhh, these have the Overmold stock? Not the hard ones like the 1500 Lightning?
Very interested in a .243 Varmint.
Uhhhh, these have the Overmold stock? Not the hard ones like the 1500 Lightning?
That's what I've been told, but nothing has been confirmed.
Interested in a .308 for sure
As a public service, Howa 1500 Rates of Twist from the 2015 catalog:
I wonder why the Vanguard2s in 223 have 1-9" ROT barrels and the Howa 1500s have 1-12" ROT barrels?
Newer Howa's are 1-9".
Dave

It appears that Legacy dropped stainless in favor of Cerakoted CM.

Newer Howa's are 1-9".
Dave
So, these might, or might not, be cut 1-9" ROT?
The "Police Model" Howas have always had 1-9" twists in .223. There was an Interarms dealer local to me at the time Interarms was going belly-up, and they sold a bunch at pretty good prices.
The Varmint Model I had had a 1-12" twist, and loved H-322 and 50gr. SPSX bullets, but would shoot 50VMs acceptably well, too. It would shoot into .3" without any heartache, and splatted prairie dogs for me quite well. I wore the pipe out on the thing.
Newer Howa's are 1-9".
Dave
So, these might, or might not, be cut 1-9" ROT?
That would be a safe assumption .....
I'll get clarity on the twists. I also believe they may have the black plastic stock similar to the 1500 Lightning. This could bode well for weight and MtnBoomer.
My rep is traveling back from his meetings. He was in California when they extended the offer. I don't expect any final numbers until after the 4th.
Are the Hogues on these aluminum skeleton or pillars? I had a pillared model on an old pf model 70 and it was a good stock. I am thinking one in 308 with an aluminum skeleton for prone off a bipod at the 1k range and knocking around in the woods wouldn't suck. I was thinking a classic 70 ss in 308 but this might be as close as I need.
If you call Howa they'll give you the cut-off SN's for the 1-12's. They've been 9's for a while.
Good rule of thumb is if they have the three position and two-stage, it's probably a 1-9".
I had the cut-off numbers written down but I don't know WTF I did with them.
Dave
SAS, thanks for looking into the stocks. Otherwise WTB a plastique one. Also looking for any model Overmold stock at a truly sacrificial price to see what happens when ground into....
I know Phil Shoemaker has shaved down the Hogues before.
Might want to PM him.
Dave
Derrick, I will buy one of the 270's. My nephew is needing a "deer rifle".
I've decided I'll buy him one of these.
Mark
Where do I look at these?
Ill be wanting one or two. The 25-06 I have is a solid gun.
I would like a 223, 204, 22-250, or 243, please count me in.
I would love one in 30-06.
I'll be keeping track. Time to treat myself!
G
Hi, thanks for posting this. Three questions:
1) Are these the Hogue stocks or the plastic LSI Lightning stocks? Based on one of the most recent posts it sounds like it might be the latter.
2) Are there any available in .338 Win Mag?
3) Do you have an idea of cost yet?
If one is available in 338WM, I'm very interested.
Read the replies. All your questions have been answered.

Derrick,
If the 223s are cut 1-9" ROT, I'll take a 223 and a 243 in the Varmint configuration.
In the past, you've had to send an e-mail to claim your booty, so you're likely wasting keystrokes. Can't blame sas for not wanting to keep track of who's saying they want what in all these posts.

When is this happening and can you ship to ffl?

Yes, I've bought a couple of rifles from Whittaker's, but I thought that I'd let Derrick know that he could put those two aside.
I've wasted tens of thousands of keystrokes on this site, so a few more aren't of any consequence.
Besides, if I don't get them, then I'll have to make due with only 10 223s and 17 243s.

You think SAS is keeping score on this thread and putting together what people want? Let alone the PM's? He will let you know when, where, and how I suspect.
Get real...
Dude, I was agreeing with you. And if you think I think SAS is keeping track of who wants what, see my reply to 260. Fuq...
Anyone good with Excel? We could use a table showing whom is in agreement with whom... I think Dave and Tom (well sorta) got it right and I too would like one of whatever I want. And another table for calling dibs, before the list of available options has been posted... So, that's my input to be included on both tables...
Please put Grovey on the dibs table... Thanks.
As stated, I'm waiting to post the list until my order is confirmed. They have to send me a verified order confirmation once the inventory has been finalized.
I do know it's in excess of 300 rifles. I have a rough breakdown, but I'm not comfortable posting that yet. There are heavy barreled rifles and sporters. More sporters than heavy though.
This won't be an email thing like we've done in the past. We'll load them on our web page and you can buy them eCommerce. Layaway will be available too. I'll post the link on this thread and I'll have Rick do a banner as well.
I won't put a tab on the website right away, so 24hourcampfire members will sorta have an exclusive. Others may be able to find them on our site, but they'd have to do some digging
$369.99.
I'll follow up this post with a list of chamberings. I just can't post quantities yet.

My bad...
369.99 for choice of sporter or heavy barrel ?
Don't know yet. I'll know next week.
If nothing else, they'll be cheap enough for builds. I expect we'll see bunches of rebores and rebarrels from the batch. I like Howa's for a build platform a lot!
Thanks. I see a 223 AI in my future. Maybe. 6x45, as well.
Who can do rebores on small calibers?
Thanks. I see a 223 AI in my future. Maybe. 6x45, as well.
Who can do rebores on small calibers?
The question, at least in my mind, is "who can do good quality rebores on small calibers? I've have 2 done, a 243 to 260 and 308 to 338, the first was very successful, the second not so much.
Don't know yet. I'll know next week.

I,T,& D will probably be busy rebarreling these.
I pondered the buy for a day or so, then I made an offer for the batch. I thought if nothing else it could get guys into a nice action and trigger for a build at a low price.
I've even pondered sending 25 or so off to be done up right!
Any idea when they will be available to order??
What do the howa barreled actions weigh? Been thinking about s Tikka action for a 6.5 SAUM 4S build. How would this compare? Is it possible on a SA? Not sure if it can be modified for s WSM.

"Done up right"
What does this mean, and by whom? I've never had a rifle "done up," it sounds cool.
P
Are these Howa actions sized according to caliber?
Do you have the weights of the complete rifles, not just the barreled actions?
Happy birthday to me Happy birthday to me
TAG TAG TAG
Guys, you do realize that a Howa is a poor man's Sako don't you?
Howa Dickson model..... Sako wasn't happy......
For the money, let it be a tad heavy. They do make a lightweight model.
What is the weight comparison to a 700?
700's are lighter.Dave
Much lighter.
Any 243 Win or 308 Win or 6.5 creed?
And 7-08 as well in the Alpine version.
Of course all this good news comes a week after I took delivery on a Ruger AW .243 for $150 more.
Actually, I prefer the Ruger stock, and it's a bit lighter, but Howas are just great rifles. Why anyone would look twice at one of the econo-rifles while these are available for the same money is a mystery.
Has anyone come up with a reason they're discontinuing the SS models?
Matt from LSI said on another forum that it was because demand for SS barreled actions died off, and many people just wanted the look of SS. He also tucked in his response that they can Cerakote in-house, which I assume means a SS look without the cost (i.e. more profit).

Shipping is $12.99 in the lower 48. I'll work out a good rate for AK....

Thanks for the info. Since Weatherby probably deals direct with Howa, maybe the SS Vanguards will still be available, at a higher price, of course. I don't mind paying more for real stainless, which is another reason I bought the Ruger instead of one of Derrick's $329 Howas. He did get me for one of his Smith .22 Victories, though!

I'm in Idaho currently. $12.99 works. Anxious to hear about availability. Thanks.
Not here yet.
The deal was made while the Howa guys were at company meetings. None of them returned to work until after the 4th.
They'll be here soon...and I'll post info soon.
Im very interested in one in .308, i will keep checking.
Will the 6.5x55 be on a long action?

Bad storms went through. Power is out, but the backup generators are now running. Phones are out though.
No updates. I assure you I'll post something as soon as I have info.
it's been 39 minutes, surely things have changed drastically. we need updates by the minute.
and can you change the twist on the 243? just compress the barrel's ends and push until it's an 8 twist.
ok, NOW any updates? lol
like a buncha women here on this site lol

www.legacysports.com [email protected] I knew something was wrong when the inventory update was delayed. No way I'm putting big money into inventory on cerakote guns. Once I received the email, I countered with with a different price. They'll have to be cheap enough for me to execute the deal now. The four cartridges listed won't move fast enough to justify the investment. If they accept my new offer, they'll be cheap enough for builds for sure!
Thoughts on the chamberings above? I'll back away if you're not interested.
I'm in it for a .223 and a 7mm-08, so the cartridges listed hold no joy for me.
P
Funny thing is, there were no 375's on the initial list. I even inquired for a member here. Then they sent me the initial list again. They already have the rifles from the initial list on my PO, but told me to wait until everything was verified.
Egg on my face, egg on their face. I'm really pissed.
I would definitely be interested in a 375 Ruger and possibly a 270 Winchester. If Legacy accepts your counter-offer, would these come in under the initial $369.99?
Are the 375 Ruger's complete rifles? Had heard these may be barreled actions they still had on-hand once they decided to drop this chambering from the line-up.
I would still be interested in a 25-06 or 270, especially if there were less than $369.99. Was looking at those two to begin with.

I too would be interested in the 25-06. I'll continue to check back often.

Geez Darrik, what a bummer!
I think that the President of Legacy should be castrated for offering those gay-azzed chamberings. Just replied to your PM and had high hopes of a SS Swede. If it had problems with accuracy, I was gonna rebarrel/build on that stainless action.
I might be forced to now accept a .270. Feel like a cheap date left on the side of the road. Thanks Legacy!
Keep us posted, thanks!
Bill
PS. They make the 6.5 Creedmoor in Cerakote, I'd be interested in that, or the blued heavy barreled varmint in 6.5 Creedmoor.
Hey Darrik. I too would be interested in a 25-06 if you can work out a deal w/legacy.
Might want the 25-06 at sub-$369 pricing. Sucks that the 308's are off the list 'now'.
If they'll take your new offer, I might pop for two.
I can't imagine why they did the 25-06 in a 22" barrel. Is that right???
I'm still on the fence for a 22-250. still a good donor for 358 if I end up going with a Howa over the Ruger
I was set on getting a .223 and a 6.5x55. May reconsider if prices are below $369. Could possibly go .22-250 and .25-06.
Darrik, I was hoping to score a 243 HB for a new LR Precision & 'yote shooter, that at some time could be rebored to 260 or 7-08 is/was my main interest.
FWIW Started to make a reservation for a LR class, where a buddy does one on ones out to 800 yards in one day with a 90% success rate, based on getting this gun with time to get up to speed for the Class early next spring.
Mebbe could take something else in Ceracoat umm in 7-08/7Rmg or 308 for a beater & 6.5x55 to go with my do all 260 T3...Already have a new 270 blue Venture I bought for a beater at $100 net under the Howa SS deal that could go away for a SS 270 ...but had 270's for 40+ years and really past time for some new experiences to conquer .... nothing else really trips my trigger out that super short list at that price.
However, I could do all Cerecoat's if the price was more bettah...just glad I haven't sold some stuff to cover the CC Bill I'd expected to pay you. Oh Well Story of my Life "If it's too good to be True" yaddayadda.
Keep digging and keep me posted. Have a Blessed Day it ain't over until it's over.
Ron
I could be interested in the .22-250 depending on pricing.
Crap, one of those stainless long actions could become a 6.5 something or other...
I have been watching this for a 25-06. I'll buy one if this works out.
ACTAUL True stainless? Is that JipJappery lanquange?
They sound like jerks and to think - they THINK - coated offerings are the way to go says to me they're just GREEDY and DUMB. Hang in there SAS. I'm in for something but lost my HOWA interest today.
Things have changed drastically. I'm pissed to say the least. I copied and pasted text from my email below (they misspelled "actual", I didn't).
Thoughts on the chamberings above? I'll back away if you're not interested.
Pretty uninteresting. I was thinking a 6.5x55. Of course still wanting a 1 in 8" 22-250...
ACTAUL True stainless? Is that JipJappery lanquange?
You know, as opposed to ACTAUL false stainless, aka Cerakote/stainless, which is just as good as ACTAUL true stainless because it's really only the color that shooters are interested in...
LSI isn't doing the Howa name any favors. Unfortunately, sas is getting caught in the middle of them not knowing the difference between stainless and coated chrome moly.
What's the big problem with cerakote? other than looks?
So when they say stainless/cerekote do they mean chromoly steel with silver paint on it. The main reason I like stainless is the corrosion resistance inside the bore so slapping some silver cerekote on the outside doesn't do much for me. Do any gun companies have employees that actually shoot or know anything about guns? This is almost as frustrating as typing this message from my iPhone on the crappy camp Fire was. I miss the old days when stainless was stainless and the campfire worked.
What's the big problem with cerakote? other than looks?
Nothing, but it's not stainless, and the coating will eventually wear off. The bore's not Cerakoted, either...
So when they say stainless/cerekote do they mean chromoly steel with silver paint on it.
According to their '15 catalog, yes.
Ohh fugg Howa! How about paint it Titanium and charge 3X?
Or maybe gold? LOL Better than? Wow...
Still, gotta say the Lightning for $343 shipped is a bargain from Whittaker Guns. Only ones I have seen around here are wayyy above that.
The bore matters the most. Everything else is just window dressing, as nice and pretty as it might be....
What's the big problem with cerakote? other than looks?
It's not stainless.
Dave
Still, gotta say the Lightning for $343 shipped is a bargain from Whittaker Guns.
It certainly is.
Clark
Anybody know if the 22-250 has the same mag-box and follower as the ones for the 308-based chamberings?
Hmmm That could an interesting Q & A... I hadn't considered in looking at a 22-250 for a rebore/rebarrel platform.
Might should using a "any caliber" LA instead, even for a 308 based round & be able to seat looong heavy for caliber Bergers.
Ron
Anybody know if the 22-250 has the same mag-box and follower as the ones for the 308-based chamberings?
I would imagine they're different. Even so, if they accept his offer, I have to imagine were looking at ~$300 rifles or so. I can imagine a mag box and follower would be more than $30-$50 TOPS.
Still interested, 22-250 and something larger, probably a 06 to rebarrel.
If I were looking for a donor, either SS, blue, or the coated ones would be okay. Still a good deal in any case.
As a side note; when I picked up my Victory .22 on Thursday, my FFL guy said the price I paid Whittakers was less than his wholesale cost. Nice little pistol too.
Would still be interested in one but in a chambering I can use, not primarily for a build.
g
Darrik, put me down for a Howa Stainless 270 at whatever pricce you come up with, even at the $369.99... I got my "beater" sold if I want and can use the 270, with 1200-1500 bullets on hand, and mebbe more of 'em at a better price than that for barrel swaps on SS Long Action's ...just gotta be a better price though.
Thx
Ron
Anybody know if the 22-250 has the same mag-box and follower as the ones for the 308-based chamberings?
I have a Howa 7-08 and a Vanguard 22-250.
They are very different followers but neither uses a block/spacer.
Also keep in mind you can convert any Howa to their DMB system for about $100.
Dave
Good to know. I appreciate it....

Stainless or cerakote, you are still welcome to buy one for me.....
FYI --
The deal is off. They wouldn't accept a lower offer and I can't invest that kind of money in the cerakoted guns -- they were the majority of the inventory.
I apologize. I was given bad information in the beginning. I suspected something was astray after I issued a PO and couldn't get confirmation in a timely fashion.
Had they all been stainless as I was told, it would be a different story.
I'll keep watching for deals, but unfortunately this one fell through. I know there is egg on my face over this ordeal, but in the end it just wasn't a good business decision once the inventory changed.
SAS-
My pocket book forgives you
No worries
Yep, no worries and thank you for trying. They just gave you bad info.

I'll keep my ears and eyes open for the next one.
Darrik,
Understandable, no apology needed, thank you for your effort. I'll still be in need of another 6.5 and was thinking maybe a Creed this time around. Keep us posted of any deals you may encounter.
Thank you sir!
Bill

The deal is off. They wouldn't accept a lower offer and I can't invest that kind of money in the cerakoted guns -- they were the majority of the inventory.
I apologize. I was given bad information in the beginning. I suspected something was astray after I issued a PO and couldn't get confirmation in a timely fashion.
Had they all been stainless as I was told, it would be a different story.
I'll keep watching for deals, but unfortunately this one fell through. I know there is egg on my face over this ordeal, but in the end it just wasn't a good business decision once the inventory changed.
Darrik, Bubba you ain't got egg on your face with me, the way you would have if you hadn't been straight up with us from the Get go. Kudos for the effort.
You tried to do a deal and got pooped on by the Seller who wasn't playing the deal with any real interest or integrity...Life Happens ...we'll get over it. But the Seller's reputation took a big time hit IMO.
The way this deal went down, the Seller reminds me of Brian what'shis face who took over Stoeger from the Sodini's, after he was thru with "fixing" High Standard back in my days in the bidnizz 30 years ago.
With this goofy topsy turvy economy there WILL be a deal sooner or later, so I'm saving my Dr Pepper bottles to be ready to fund the next one. Cheers
Ron
What all those other guys said.

SAS, No worries here. Actually think it's great you didn't fall for Howa's 'Cerakote - better than stainless' bull.

Absolutely zero need to apologize for a vendor providing you with inaccurate information, an action/act that was totally out of your control.
Considering the volume of business that you do, I'm surprised that the vendor isn't falling over himself apologizing to you.
Thank you for giving the 24HCF crew "first dibs" on great deals, like the limited run of RAR-Predators in 260 and the close out on the stainless Marlin XS7s.

I completely understand. You have been very good to the forum Darrick, no apology necessary.
SAS, Thanks for trying! We'll get in on the next deal.
I don't think you got egg on your face at all. You were 100% straight forward about the deal which is 99% better than a lot of dealers now days.
I hate to be the naysayer of the group but if you can chose calibers, $350 for any of these, cerakoted or not, still sounds like a good deal in my opinion. Cerakoting doesn't really hurt anything and is a lot easier to maintain than blue.

Pffft. No egg on your face as far as I'm concerned.
The only egg-on-face is Howa and I'm not surprised to learn their ship isn't exactly the tightest one in the fleet.
Pretty sure the malefactor is LSI, the U.S. distributor, not Howa. SAS would know for sure.
Pappy, I believe you're right.
For all those that were hoping to get a SS .25-06, I've got one for sale.
