6.5 Creedmoor at 500 yards yesterday. 120 Amax factory ammo.
Good stuff! Yeah I know it's only 3 shots. I'll just do it again....
Statistically PURE LUCK. Ha! Good shooting Bob. I would have quit after 1 shot and called it a 1 hole group.
Statistically PURE LUCK. Ha!
Sakoluvr: That would be correct.
6.5 Creedmoor .....120 Amax factory ammo.
Heresy ! !
Jerry
UnderArmour gear, a Creedmoore and now posting pics like crazy. You've turned into something of a Renaissance man. 😄
Reloading in your case would be a waste of time. Bob what are the particulars on said rifle?
battue; The UA stuff is everywhere and impossible to avoid LOL! I do like the hats!
old elk: The Creedmoor is a Rem 700 SA with aftermarket lug; 25" #4 Benchmark SS fluted barrel with thread and cap. Timmy Trigger. Barrel and action work by Norbert Costa of Boise, Idaho.
Stock is an Echols Shrike in Edge. Bottom metal is Sunny Hill alloy oberndorf style.
Rings are leupold DD and scope is a NF SHV 2-10x42 with IHR reticle. Final assembly and stock bedding by Alex Sitman of PA.
I have not yet painted the stock.....
One of these days I will get around to hand loading for it. Once I run out of factory ammo.
Great shooting Bob!
Who knew Yankees could shoot like that.
Ken it's the rifle and ammo.....
Gotcha.
I always need to handload, it's a major part of the fun for me. Sometimes I think I go to the range and shoot so I can handload again.
I need to handload because when I runout of the magic perfect factory ammo I'm pretty sure I won't find it on the shelf.
You missed all three times.
You missed all three times.
I did indeed.....
I am still messing with those turrets and my "zero".
The local Cabelas I was at today had boxes and boxes of 120 amax for the creed....I think you'll be able to find plenty.
Sell the .270, keep the Creedmoor.
Ihead: Yes that ammo is everywhere up here too. And it isn't expensive either.
Scott: You know I can't do dat
math man/458: Of course handholds are best ....but this ammo is pretty good. Even jumping around with different lot numbers it's well behaved and accurate.
I am making a bunch of brass, and have dies and bullets. I will load pretty soon.

I'm with mathman on this one. Since I have retired, reloading and shooting have been part of my life. I really enjoy it.

Harry, don't leave out the turrets!
Bob,
Now where did you find those really great components?
Leaving Monday for 24 days. Be well buddy.
Great shooting Bob. That thing is an animal...
Just loaded up 50 Barnes 130g TTSX for Daughter #1's .308 Win. headed to the range with her day after tomorrow so she can get some practice. WY antelope ad CO elk coming up.

From you Rick! Where else?
Have a great hunt!

Ha!!!!!! 👀😀
The turrets are fun to play with.
The turrets are fun to play with.
That's what she said....
It's just a matter of time. Deer will show up at around 400, Bob will quickly spin a turret, hold dead on and do the deed. The world will shift on its axis and it will be snowing in Hawaii on Christmas.
Thanks Shodd!
Blind pigs and all that!

battue more likely scenario is a top of back hold with a 7mm Magnum and blow him to Kingdom Come!
Better shot of the rifle:
You missed all three times.
I did indeed.....
I am still messing with those turrets and my "zero".
Something could be loose. Might need to check that scope or mounts....... see if you can find the reason for the lack of symmetry in that 'group'.
But seriously, that's nice group considering you're using a 4X Burris at that distance........ or not.
Just a dumbazzz trying to be a smartazzzz.
Klik I will work on my form and follow through.
I looked at loads for 120's. RL17 and H4350 look good.
Sell the .270, keep the Creedmoor.
Now THAT was funny!
MM: The guys who put it together knew what they were doing. I was just smart enough to know that and buy it..
Congrats and the new rig.....
but guys like me have to handload....
factories don't make ammo, the likes of which I use....
like this deer season load for my 243 ADL... hunting at 30/30 ranges.... 30 grains of IMR 4198, with an 85 grain Sierra SP....
more than enough for a 120 to 150 pound blacktail at 150 to 200 yds or less...
as for Creedmore's, 20 years ago I became a 260 Rem man...
I'm a Dapper Dan Man!
Seafire thanks!
I had my eyes peeled for a 6.5 Creedmoor but waited for something that rang my bell.
This is my first go around with any 6.5 smaller than a 264 Win Mag!
Bob,
it will serve you well.... the Creedmoor and the 260 are pretty darn interchangeable...
I do like a few features you've put on your rifle, which might be an inspiration for when the current ADL gets rebarreled....
I don't really buy many new rifles anymore, preferring to rebarrel and actually get what I want..... and I prefer an action that is older, as I think they are better made years ago than current production stuff...
best of luck with the new toy in the field this season...
oh, and may I ask you to boast a little on that scope by chance?
Sure. I like it, but as a long time basic Leopold user it took a bit of getting use to.
The rifle does not have a lot of rounds through it yet but I took the rifle right from 100 yards to 600 when I got it and the scope seems to track well, going back from 600 to zero.
Seems any discrepancy between where it hits after dialing is operator error since I am pretty new to dialing and have not worked it all out yet with this load.
Optically it's quite good; not like a Swrao or Schmidt but manages conditions well. Resolution seems nice and I don't have to do much adjusting of focus etc. It seems fine 100-600 yards.
The IHR allows you to hold pretty fine even at 10X. I do like that. I am starting to trust it going from 100-600 and in between.
math man/458: Of course handholds are best ....but this ammo is pretty good. Even jumping around with different lot numbers it's well behaved and accurate.

Yeah it really is amazing the quality of the Creedmoor stuff out there.
That is some very fine shooting there and quite the cool rig you have!
More than the great factory ammo and my obsessive reloading habit what gets me is that you can get a factory rifle for under a grand (Kimber hunter, Tikka T3, RAR) that'll shoot as well or better than many customs!!
Shaking the very foundations of my existence...
efw: Yes it looks like these new factory rifles will shoot as well as customs.
I had been looking and actually had a LAW on layaway but initial reports were not good.
The barreled action for this was offered to me by RinB ; within hours I had an Echols Shrike for it(thanks to Darcy),and Sunny Hill bottom metal.
The rifle was enroute to Alex Sitman almost the same day, with stock and BM following right behind. With this rifle I did not have to scramble and wait months for parts. A rifle that normally may have taken a year pulled together in a few short months.
I turned out great and while more expensive than a factory rifle, I got just about exactly what I wanted. RinB and I have been friends for years and he knows what I like.
I've gotta ask, what's it weigh?
BTW: I like that stock a la mode.
kingston I don't know (?) I never weighed it!
This may sound nuts today but I really did not want it to be a lightweight rifle since its primary use was for the range, maybe some deer hunting and varmints. More of a range/play rifle.
My guess is about 8.5 the way it sits? I will try to locate my scales and let you know.
It isn't painted because once it was here I just felt like shooting and not messing with tearing it down. I may do it later but who cares right?
If you do paint the rifle, just don't copy any of Ingwe's painting designs.
Don't worry.....
Bare it reminds me of the Sako 85 Carbonlight. Are the composite finishes appearance grade? I can't tell from the pics. I think I saw SKane post one awhile back unfinished and he intended to keep it that way. I hear you on the weight for a shooter.
Some bedding stuff got spilled on the finish. I guess that can't be helped but it does not look real bad compared to the old Brown precisions we used to leave unpainted.
They were really butt ugly. The finish without paint is attractive;no nonsense.
BTW I bought a box of that factory ammo with the 120 GMX and it put three into a 1/2" at 100 yards yesterday.Did not shoot that ammo at 300 yards as POI was different from the Amax.
Picked up 100 120 BT's for it which I will load up soon.
Wow, and you did it upside down even!! (Try with your left and give us a chance, dude.) Sweet!
That's good shooting. Not many people can do that.
That's good shooting. Not many people can do that.
Thanks Hanco, but sure they can....I'm just hanging on and squeezing.
Finally tried a handload
Good shootin' Bob.
Is that 2" high at 100 yds?
Yes the picture is sideways....(how do you fix that?
)
That load impacts differently from the factory 120 Amax load for which the rifle is zeroed. That's the first 5 hand loads through the rifle
Yes the picture is sideways....(how do you fix that?

IF you use Ph Bk, pull up that pic then click on 'edit' and you'll find arrows indicting rotate right, rotate left.
Hope that helps.
Jerry
That will work Bob!! Great hunting bullet besides.
I like the unpainted look and wish I would have done that with the McMillians I have ordered over the years.....
Jerry I figured it out. Thanks!

Yeah, there are quite a few floating around these days. The only problem is McMiillan has perfected the unfinished look to look about danged-near perfect/finished.
I wanted something more hideous/unfinished but I still like it and it'll stay this way.
I like them unpainted myself! Nice!
The thread wasn't intended as a rejection of hand loading which would be silly.
Just to point out that factory ammo for this cartridge is pretty good. Don't want anyone to get confused....
I think that's what's really helped the appeal of the 6.5 Creed. The factory stuff has been excellent. Making it possible for people to shoot well.
Hand loading will always be necessary as I shoot a couple of cartridges that factory loads are Unobtainable and a few that like my hand loads better.
But I have several rifles that shoot well to exceptionally with factory fodder from Federal and Hornaday. I no longer shoot for recreation at the range, just a few rounds for sight in, hunting, and a few varmints and pests as targets of opportunity.
Enjoy your new toy,
Jack
MM: The guys who put it together knew what they were doing. I was just smart enough to know that and buy it..
Should of had them help you with the bipod......
Since you can't get 40-40 Maynard anymore I do!!!
And I don't think there are any commercial 275 Rigby Improved on the shelves.

Gawd what is your hang up with the bipod?
7-30 Waters

I do!
ya!

It's kinda on........backwards.....
I knew that.....figured it out after it was on the rifle but just shot it anyway.
I normally don't use one at all,so was not sure how they worked, since it has been a long time since I last tried one. That group was the first one I have fired since sometime last March when I was diagnosed with lymphoma, and have been prevented from shooting for months.
I just wanted a solid rest at 500 yards so used it for a few shots . I then used it to shoot this 5 shot group
Do you think the groups would have been better if I had put it on the right way?
Looks to me like you are back in the saddle Bob. Good Shooting!
Yes, nicely done Bob.
I just had to give you some $hit because, I am me
Sorry to hear about the lymphoma. I hope you are doing well........
Just loaded up 50 Barnes 130g TTSX for Daughter #1's .308 Win. headed to the range with her day after tomorrow so she can get some practice. WY antelope ad CO elk coming up.
Just a follow-up. Daughter #3 took he WY antelope at 368 yards (as lasered from my position about 5 yards behind her, so maybe 363 yards actual).
Loaded up some Barnes 175g LRX for my .300WM last night. If they shoot as well this weekend as the no-longer-available 180g MRX, I'll use them for elk come November.
If I didn't handload I'd have another room in the basement. But I enjoy it. Probably load up some 225g AB for my .338WM tonight. Both it and the .300WM are going elk hunting.
