Anyone have one yet? How are they compared to the Montana?
Posted By: keystoneben Re: Kimber Hunter - 11/28/16
I picked up a 243 recently. I wanted to try a short action Kimber, and I plan on using it for a tractor/truck rifle. So the removable mag and cheaper price made sense.

[Linked Image]

I've only shot two and a half boxes of Hornady factory ammo through it. I've shot out to 400 yards and am pretty happy with it.
A couple of three round groups at 200 and 400. Sitting with sticks.

I don't mind the stock, but if I was going to carry it alot I'd probably spend the money on a Montana. The only thing I don't really like is the three round magazine. It'd be nice if it held four.

Dang you must be winning at life! I wish I was able to have my "beater truck gun" be a Kimber.

Here I am with a crappy blued RAR. smile

That's fairly snazzy...
Posted By: chas05 Re: Kimber Hunter - 11/28/16
I got one in 243 as well, topped with a 6x36 loopy it shoots Fed blue box 100 gr pretty good, if i ever get that effin goo off the trigger adnustment, it might turn into a bragger. 3 round box is effed as well...

Final verdicts out...

Try acetone? Or finger nail polish remover on the goo? Am about to dig into mine, tonight or tomorrow. Guess I'll find out.
Posted By: RNF Re: Kimber Hunter - 11/28/16
I picked up one off of gun broker today in 6.5 Creedmore. Looking forward to getting it in my hands.
Posted By: MtnBoomer Re: Kimber Hunter - 11/29/16
Acetone definitely worked to loosen my red goo.
Posted By: tzone Re: Kimber Hunter - 11/29/16
The Creedmore is what I was thinking about. Still am I guess. Hows that stock? Is it a POS?
Posted By: SU35 Re: Kimber Hunter - 11/29/16
I just ordered one in 6.5 through Sportsmans Outdooor Superstore for
$675.00 shipped. We'll see how it does.

I was going to pull the trigger on one during the sale until I saw the 1/12 twist on the 6.5 Creedmoor.

Ended up with a 1/8 twist Howa for under $350 shipped and transferred.

I thought I read here that the 1/12 was a typo.

Posted By: chas05 Re: Kimber Hunter - 11/29/16

It is in the description at SportsmansOutdoorSuperstore's website.

http://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperst...-84m-hunter-6.5-creedmoor-with-fde-stock

If it is 1/8 I would have ordered one. frown
Posted By: Formidilosus Re: Kimber Hunter - 11/29/16
They are 1-8" twists.
Posted By: SU35 Re: Kimber Hunter - 11/29/16
1/12 is wrong, Kimber ONLY makes them with a 1/8 twist.

Posted By: goalie Re: Kimber Hunter - 11/30/16
Oh well. I guess I didn't really need "light" anyhow for what I'll use it for. As long as the Howa shoots, I just saved 300 and change I guess.....
Posted By: tzone Re: Kimber Hunter - 11/30/16
It's not super light like a MT, which I to may balance a bit better but I do like the MT quite a bit.

I'd like a Creedmore and don't really need or want another RAR. But for 1/2 the price, or almost of a MT the Hunter certainly has my attention.
Posted By: ruraldoc Re: Kimber Hunter - 11/30/16

I bought one of the first HUnters in 6.5 Creedmoor. Shoots three different factory loads close to moa.

Feeds and functions perfectly. Wish the magazine held four instead of three. It is only a few ounces heavier than the Montana the and the stock feels really good to me.

I like mine a lot.
Posted By: tzone Re: Kimber Hunter - 11/30/16
Hmmm. I might have to get one. Damnit! laugh

If you want, wait and see what the Howa 1500 is like before you buy a Kimber. It was less than a RAR.

What are you guys using for ring/mounts for the Hunter?

A Kimber Hunter for $675?

Send me the link, I don't see them for that price.
Posted By: SU35 Re: Kimber Hunter - 11/30/16
That was a Black Friday price which ended Monday night. I bought the last one.

Sportsmans Outdoor has offered them before at that price.

Bet they do again around xmass...

I know how (military purchase program) to get a Howa Alpine for about the same money.

Which is better?
Posted By: Blacktail53 Re: Kimber Hunter - 12/01/16
My 6.5 CM weighs 5.10, new out of the box.

So far, with two factory loads - Whitetail 129's and Fed Fusion 140's it's pretty much a MOA shooter with a Leuplod 2.5x8 on deck.

With a little imagination and paint, you can customize the stock pretty easily.

I apologize for posting the same ole picture over and over - I need to take some new ones.

So far it's accounted for one blacktail buck and it's going after a cow elk next week.

Apologies if I missed it above, but can someone tell me what OAL the internal dimensions of the magazine will allow?

I picked one up in .257 just to get the feel of one, it felt like a darned nice rifle. I got a "bad" Montana and said that it'd be a long time before I bought anything else that said Kimber on it, but this one has me thinking...

Blacktail

Is that 5.10 lbs or 5 lb 10oz?

Just got back from taking mine to Kansas, 6.5 CM. This was the third animal I took this Fall with it and all dropped in their tracks.

54Woody, that's a whopper buck! Have you scored him. he looks like he may exceed 160.

'54,
Beauty of a buck! Have to look hard to find one like that in Sweet Owen County!
Posted By: 54Woody Re: Kimber Hunter - 12/06/16
1911a1, smaller than he looks, 130ish, big body, small head makes rack look bigger. I like him anyway.

Kimber7man, I have this guy running my place in Owen County but in three years this is the only daytime picture I have. He is as nocturnal as a vampire.
