Has anyone compared the 75 eld to the now discontinued75 amax? Especially on game or critters. I ordered some of these for my 1-8 twist 22-250.

Bump.....interested in actual bullet shapes and ogives. I just snagged 3 boxes of the Amax but they are drying up. I am hoping to simply swap bullets ultimately and not have too much headache with load tweaking

I just bought a box of 75gr ELDM's for my Tikka 223, haven't shot any yet or loaded them up. From my understanding they are the same bullet with a different tip.

That seems to be lots of peoples understandings for some reason, it's a new bullet though. Every AMAX I've compared to the new ELD has a different profile.

The 75AM and 75ELD, at least in the lots I have, are identical in OAL and tip length. The BTO length of the ELD is about 0.012" shorter than the AM, but that could be simply due to lot-to-lot variation, rather than an intentional difference between the two bullet models.

I have a 1:8" heavy barrel ar 15, I might have to pick some if these up. My wife has taken a shine to using the rifle for Javelina, and I bet that would be an improvement over the 50 NBT she uses now.

I think you will want the 73 eld for AR15, unless you want to single feed them.

That I do not!

I assume they're too long?

Yes, 75's are too long.
73's are what you want to fit in an AR magazine.

Yep 73gr's for AR style/length mags.
I've got some 75gr ELDM's now loaded for my Tikka, they are 62.11mm from base to Tip that with a 1/4mm jump to lands - should be able to shoot a few today or tomorrow.

I've got these new ELDM rounds sorted in my Tikka .223 1:8 with 23gn of 2206h, 62.11mm OAL @ 2780fps shoots under 1/2" at 100m. I've shot 5 deer with it now, 2 good sized reds and 3 fallow, ranges from 25m to 195m all neck or head shots, all shots hitting bone. It seems anything close as in under 50m with an impact speed of around 2700+fps and hitting bone = explosive, fist size exit hole/damage however if the range is further so speeds drop off to say 2500fps you get really nice reliable expansion.

This red was shot at ~100m through the neck from above as it was laying down, the pill mushroomed and hit the punga to the right (cbf digging it out) but by the exit hole which i could fit 3 fingers in hole, the pill didn't blow up, he did not even twitch, literally laid its head down slowly. The eldm smashed the neck, I only needed to cut the muscle as the bone was shattered.

Fallow shot back of head (see drop of blood) @ 195m, the pics speak for themselves.

One thing to note is this load is extremely quiet through the DPT can, I had a 53gr Vmax load @ 3200 fps and there was a noticeable loud pop but nothing like that with the 75gr load.

I was wondering the same thing.
