I have a pre 64 win in 264win mag and I love to shoot it,but I'd like to do some mild loads for it, all the manuals show top end load, does any buddy have some mild loads that they would like to share? I have a lot 160 gr from hornady, but any loads would be fine thanks.

Mild loads for a .264???
Lol

I'm running RL33 pushing a 142 LRAB. My load is running 78 gr. If you start at 75 and can get decent accuracy, that would be a 'milder' load than what I'm shooting. Frankly, the 78 gr load recoils about like a 30-06 does, at least to me.

Concur.

Tell him to get a .260. The .264 really is a pussycat. You could use lite bullets (100 - 125 gr) and IMR 4064. Most of the older manuals list loads for this powder.

Can't say that I've tried it but a campfire member a while back recommended about 53 gr of 4340 with a 140 Sierra. Said it was accurate, mild and effective. It's also Noslers starting load.

Try the starting load, I've used that quite s bit for teen aged son. Much less recoil than full power load.

Trail Boss is listed as a light load. It's on their web site.

I have loaded a lot of the 100gr Sierra HP bullets with 72gr of H4831 at 3691fps and recoil is mild and they are great for what ever you want to shoot from Mule Deer down to Ground Hogs.

When I wanted light loads for a 7Mag I called Sierra. He told me to use IMR3031. Start with the starting load and go DOWN until you see a little bit of unburned powder in the bore. Worked for me.

Has anyone worked up loads using Hodgon H50BMG? I have a 28" bbl and think it will work ok, just not a lot of data out there on it.

No, but have used US869 with 140 MK's.
Posted By: hanco Re: loads for 264 win mag - 12/22/17
A starting load of IMR 4350 would be good to try.

The accuracy load out of the last printed manual from Sierra for the 140 MK was dynamite in my Sendero.

I use 0.5 less than max 7828ssc. 140 Berger. Shoots 3/4 inch.

Here's what I have for H50BMG. WW 264 cases, WLRM primers, 142 SMK. 25" barrel shot over my Oehler 35.

70.o gr v = 2,970 fps
72.o gr v = 3,085
74.o gr v = 3,135 (too hot for my rifle)

US 869 is THE powder for 139 - 142 bullets in my rifle. For comparison, 76.o gr US 869 yields 3,075 fps and 77.o gives 3,095 fps

I ended up with 75.0 gr v=3205 with Lehigh defense 119 gr Match Solid flash tips. The velocity didn't change much from 74 grains on up, but best accuracy was 75 grains. It's a titanium tipped round that is just for fun shooting at rocks in the gravel pit, nowhere else due to fire danger. COAL of 3.526", barely fits in the magazine but feeds well. .030" off the lands, but it is an unusually skinny and long round.
