Well, at least SAKO actions. I've only owned three (well two are actually Browning Safari Grades on SAKO actions), and one beautiful 75 on a beautiful stick of wood that shot lights out, but it was very heavy so it went downrange. But the other two (Brownings), one in 7 Mag and the other another 300, all are weak in the extractor department and the 7 Mag was not very accurate (a first for a Browning and I've owned quite a few), at least not with factory ammo (Rem 150gr that my Model 70 shot very well, along w several hand loads).

The 300 shoots very well, as good as my FN actioned 300 and 3006, but frankly, extraction ejection although good enough, is not in the same universe as the FNs, Model 70 or my Weatherbys (also PFs of course). I know some here have had issues with SAKOs and extraction, but is there anything that can be done to make extraction more positive? I've cleaned and oiled the plunger and it feels heavy enough, but not in the same universe as CRFs or the Weatherby, Thoughts?
Extractor problems? I am surprised. I always hear how people put Sako extractors in Remington 700s because the Remingtons supposedly break all the time.

I'm sorry, I meant ejector, plunger type
No sweat. I hope you get the problems solved. They sound like nice rifles.

Maybe the plunger spring needs replacing.

Jorge, I thought you were going to say it doubled on you :-)

Nah, I know better than to shoot a Merkel smile
I own two Sako 85's. No way I'd ever give 'em up!

Jorge I may be getting old but I cannot remember having a Sako with a plunger.

Tikka yes...Sako no.
Posted By: jorgeI Re: SAKOs ONCE AGAIN DISAPPOINT - 06/25/17
Well, it looks like a plunger to me. Left side of the bolt face.

Kinda hard to make a single shot double. Maybe Merkel should stick to those.... smile
As there are a few Sako people here.. does anybody know the function of the "bolt guide rail" on the older L579 or A2 actions?

The bolt works without it..

To protect your face in the event of a catastrophic case failure - it's a safety feature.
The reason some smiths are against sako extractors in Remington actions is there is no rail. The extractor and gas can come back through the bolt lug raceway.

That's my guess at least

I've never seen anyone post more pictures of nothing, not to mention nothing relevant, in my life. Wow.

Yep, and an M16 type extractor is better then a Sako extractor in a 700

Hey, all I asked was for similar experiences from other SAKO owners and Geedub has a LOT of credibility with me. I didn't mean for his to turn into another pissing match

Jorge, I appreciate that. And no disrespect intended. Sako's were my first luv when it came to collecting rifles, and as expressed, I've had excellent luck. Knowing you have a sense of humor, I could not resist gigging you just a bit.
Years ago when I first started posting here, being a newbie, I had not established my bona fides. One has probably heard the old bromide, "pictures or it didn't happen". Consequently I tend to include pictures in many of my posts and threads. Undoubtedly, I prolly over-do it quite often. I try not to be overly redundant in the pix I post, but perhaps you've also heard the saying, "How is it I can remember every word from a song from 1967, but I can't remember why I walked into the kitchen"?

But what the hey, it's entertainment!

Best,

GWB

"G": I'm pretty sure the spring is just a little tired. As I mentioned on my first post, the other SAKO I had in the same caliber did not have this issue. This one ejects them "ok" it just doesn't launch them into lower orbit like my Weatherby do. I am VERY happy with the rifle. J

Well, I'm sure not in the same Sako owner class as G, but I do have an 85 6.5x55 I think a lot of...doesn't throw empties into orbit either, but doesn't drop them back down into the works. It wouldn't be a rifle I'd want to get rid of. Also have a Sako Quad rimfire with all four barrels. A 5mm RemMag barrel would make it perfect.
