SAKOs ONCE AGAIN DISAPPOINT - 06/24/17
Well, at least SAKO actions. I've only owned three (well two are actually Browning Safari Grades on SAKO actions), and one beautiful 75 on a beautiful stick of wood that shot lights out, but it was very heavy so it went downrange. But the other two (Brownings), one in 7 Mag and the other another 300, all are weak in the extractor department and the 7 Mag was not very accurate (a first for a Browning and I've owned quite a few), at least not with factory ammo (Rem 150gr that my Model 70 shot very well, along w several hand loads).
The 300 shoots very well, as good as my FN actioned 300 and 3006, but frankly, extraction ejection although good enough, is not in the same universe as the FNs, Model 70 or my Weatherbys (also PFs of course). I know some here have had issues with SAKOs and extraction, but is there anything that can be done to make extraction more positive? I've cleaned and oiled the plunger and it feels heavy enough, but not in the same universe as CRFs or the Weatherby, Thoughts?
