Hi all I am new here, been on a few forums for a long time but I am new to this one. I was told this was a pretty good forum for reloading info. I shoot mostly predator calling rifles, Stevens 200 in 22-250, Savage Axis 223, Ruger M77 tang safety 243, Ruger american ranch 223 and finally a new Weatherby Vanguard S2 in 25-06. I have all the rifles handloads dialed into mostly 1/2'' and I am just starting on loading for the 06. I have Reloader 22, H4831sc and Varget. The bullets I have purchased so far are 100grn Speer Hot-cor and 85grn Nosler Ballistic tip. I have loaded the 100 grain Speers with 53.5, 54.0 and 54.5 of H4831 with an OAL of 3.200 (I am still waiting for Reloader 22 to arrive) but plan on loading 56 grains with reloader 22. This is out of my Lee reloading manual. I plan on trying Varget with the 85grn bullets at medium up through max charges per my manual. Any and all info about 25-06 is appreciated, if people do not want to post their loads I totally understand that. Just looking to gain all the info I can.

My best load for 100 grain has been I4831.. H is a bit slower I believe. I use 22 with heavier bullets.. But it is accurate with 100 gr. Never shot many Speer in that caliber.. I think you will like the .25 it is a deadly coyote rifle for normal hunting.. On windy days, it is my choice, just killed one this am with a 75 gr. Horn Vmax.. Never used Varget in this caliber..

Welcome to '' the campfar'' , I find that my old 25-06 is very easy to load for - here's ton of data from Hodgdon that stays in my favorites .

If you're shooting your 25-06 at coyotes I don't imagine you're trying to save fur , try some 90gr. Sierra Blitzkings for disgustingly fast kills .

Thank you guys for the reply's. I actually do try to save fur, Lol. The 25-06 won't be a regular use gun, I have a few stands that have potential for long shots and are often times windy. It will be used there, but yes I understand that 85 grains at 3,500 is not fur friendly. Lol. I get about 3/4 to 1" groups with Varget in my 243 with 87grn Vmax, I am hoping Varget won't be terrible in the 25-06.

You Might Also Try MR 2000 . My Forbes 25-06 Shot It Better Than RL-22.. The 85Gr TSSX's And 48Gr's Of MR-2000 Will Kill With Little Damage To Hide's..The BT's Not So Much.. Fist Size Hole's In Coyotes.

Any .25-06 I have been around usually likes 52 grains of Imr 4350 and 100 gr Hornadys,Speers and Nosler Ballistic tips. My Tikka likes those and It really likes 100 Ballistic Tips and 52 gr of RE-17 I have of bunch of that powder so that is what I feed it. .25-06 are usually pretty easy to get to shoot Good luck

My 25-06 and I get along just fine and have for some time now. It's a gee-whiz rifle on mule deer, antelope and coyotes. No doubt.

Normally I load the 115 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips for deer & pronghorn, and have found they work just fine on coyotes as well.

A 115 gr Berger will kinda-sorta mess up the off-side of a coyote...

Mostly I use Retumbo with the 115's, though RL-22 works just as well. And H4831 with the 100's has produced some terrific accuracy. I don't recall ever loading anything lighter than 100 grains, though I have a small stash of 87's that was given to me. Probably pretty good coyote bullets.

I love the 75 vmax with 50 gr or so of RL15. This is sparklingly (is dat a word?) accurate in my Model 70 classic featherweight.

I am also fond of the 100 ballistic tip and the 100 hornady loaded with h4831.

As a group, most 25-06 shooters are a pretty loyal bunch to the cartridge. Once you use the 25-06 you don't go back to the .270.

I like 100's at 3,300+ in the 25-284, but the 270win will now do that speed plus some with the 110 TTSXBT and the BC numbers are nearly the same. That load blurs the line a little.....

I shoot only 100 gr. plus bullets in mine and am having very good results with R26. Equal or better velocities as R22 plus, more uniform, temperature stable and has a DE-coppering agent too. If just starting I would take a look at R23 and R26 but the 25-06 built it's reputation just fine with 4831 and 4350 powders.

Since 1978, IMR 4831 and a 100 grainer for maximum performance in the three 25-06s I favor.

Have loaded anything from a 75gr to 120gr (Sierras). Shot 87gr spitzers for years on woodchucks and either 100gr or 117gr for deer. Ever since the 100gr Nosler Btips hit the market, that's all I use for whatever is in the cross hairs

Plenty of good powders and bullets to choose from now. But what I started with wasn't broke and still ain't, so no attempts at a fix. Enjoy the rifle, great cartridge.

50gr h4350 and 100gr game kings shoot well for me. Actually h4350 and any bullet shoots well in mine.

75 V-max with around 48 grains of Varget, RL15, or IMR 4064, or a heavier load of IMR4350 / H4350 have all shot well in a number of different brand 25-06 for me.

RL19 or RL22, IMR 4350, either 4831s or Retumbo have been accurate in 100 grain loads. I have shot tight groups with all these.

Been putting IMR 4064 under the 75s (Marlin), H4831 under 90 HPBT (Tikka) and RL19 under the 100 NBTs (Sendero) this year.

Only shot one yote with 85 NBT last year (don't remember the powder) but the size of the wound and the way it was smoking I thought I caught it on fire!

If you have an accurate / fast 100 grain load I would stick with it for multiple game. It puts coyotes down hard and fast and doesn't do quite as much damage.

I have used a lot of bullets from the defunct 75gn Barnes X up to the 120gn Partition but the 100gn bullet weight is a pretty good allround weight with the TTSX and Partition at to top of the competency list and 117gn Hornady BT's a good economical back up.

85/87 grain stuff, RL19. 100 grain pills get IMR 4350. The 25/06 is just one of those rounds that is really easy to feed.
