So Shooters Pro Shop had a over run of 150gr NBT's. I bought 100 to try out in my 270 win with Rel 26. Curious if anyone
has used these. How are they in regards to toughness?

In and out out one cow elk. I could hunt everything with them exclusively and never worry.

They will be good. I shoot these in my 7 mags and 7mm-08.

I've used them in the Winchester Supreme .280 Remington load on a few whitetails. They seemed pretty soft. One doe I shot I hit low in the brisket, it circled me and finally laid down about 10 yards from me but was definitely not dead. I shot it again in the neck as it tried to stand and I hit the neck/spine, didn't even make it slow down, had to shoot it again. Later I found how the bullet had hit bone and turned, not breaking the neck. Couple other whitetails went down in there tracks but the bullets didn't exit. It might be that the impact velocity was too high as most of these were shots at less than 20 yards. But in the end the deer were dead so I guess you could say the bullet did its job.

At distance they are ok, but up close at 270 speeds they expand rapidly. Not a fan of ballistic tips on deer or bigger.

I have used them for 25 years since they came out. They WILL NOT compensate for a crappy shot. I have killed elk, hogs and deer by the trainload with them. Neck shots, lung/heart shots etc all work great. Killed deer from 30 yards to about 400. If you do your part, the bullet will too.

Those making doubtful comments about them, have you used the actual 270/150 on anything? Or are you basing your comments on a different bullet weight or caliber, or a different iteration from years back?





I haven't used those on elk yet, but I can't see any reason the wouldn't be great.

I am a huge fan of the current crop of Ballistic Tips.

The dressed up NBT's should be just fine. We've had 4 or 5 cow elk taken with a .270 Win. and plain jane 150gr. Power Points from 75 - 250 yards.

My one experience with the ballistic silvertip in 270 was with the 130 grain version. I shot one largish whitetail buck, about 175 lbs dressed, if I recall, at 550 yards. Missed the range a touch long and managed to spine him. It left a 6" section of the spine turned to mush. Second shot when I closed the quarter mile was taken from 10 or so yards, liquefied everything in the chest cavity. I was happy with the performance, and the 150 can only be more better. Just shy away from bone.
